Thanks a million Dr. Pitre. My Protestant years have so conditioned me that I have always found this particular miracle a bit silly and an unnecessary disturbance to our Faith. But today, you have opened my eyes to the grandeur and the spectacular significance of this miracle. I can't thank you enough. May God bless you.
This is my favorite gospel. It has so many layers. Shows some banter between Jesus and Mary. Mary, as Jesus mother, is pulling Jesus forward into his ministry.
And you never will. Jesus takes the role of a diplomatic official ? An ambassador, a man that God sends, to speak of a peace treaty between tribal leaders ? Israelites and Canaanites ? black leaders ? These fake religious guys are uneducated in scripture...period.
Dr. Pitre, your evangelization and very clear understanding of scriptures, has given me so much love for a better understanding our relationship with God, through the Bridegroom. Thank you so very much. God bless you.
Excellent video! This passage of scripture is so rich. It points to Jesus as the eternal bridegroom, the foreshadowing of the feast of the Lamb, the power of the intercession of the Virgin Mary and a Eucharistic revelation of the miracle and multiplication of the superior wine.
The Wedding at Cana denotes a marriage alliance ? a peace treaty between tribal leaders. The tribal leaders are the Canaanites and the Israelites ). A marriage alliance is a coalition. A military campaign was called in Cana. Jesus and his disciples were asked to come to this Caucus. Wine has many terms ? wine in this story denotes: to be induced ? ( persuaded ) or enticed. They ( the guests, meaning: patrons, or the zealots,, ) ran out of wine. Ran out of something is an idiom ? to use up your entire speech ? they had no more convincing words that they could use to convince . This expression means: to have no more words to speak with ? you used up your entire talk trying to convince another tribe you and them are one people ? you have no more words left that's convincing. Wine is an inducement ? a persuading, a convincing others. The Israelites made an attempt to Convince the Canaanites that, their tribe is not like their father's tribe of the past ? The third day is an expression ?
Great explanation, indeed! I also realised that Mary played a role in persuading Jesus. It also explains why the early church fathers turned to Mary for intercession, which we practice even today.
@@DavidLTJ Jesus is the king of the universe Mary can't intercede for you any more than I can you go straight to Jesus for forgiveness. that is why he died. even Mary had to go to Jesus for forgiveness Jesus is the high priest (Meichisedec) = Shalom.
@@nathanlidgett5688 Scripturally we CAN pray for one another. Those who died in communion with Christ IS with Him in Heaven. You can try and disprove me, lets be sensible about this.
Our beautiful blessed Virgin Mary, the pure, holy Mother of our God & Savior Jesus Christ is the epitome of who God wants everyone to be. She's also our Heavenly Mother who prays for us & with us. God heeds her prayers as He honors her & they prevail over many things. Lk1:28, 35, 42-43, Rev12:17, Acts1:14, Pro15:29, Ex20:12, Jm5:16
I really liked how Brant made the connection to Isiah 25: 6-8, where the LORD of Hosts (the Bridegroom) will prepare a great feast for His redeemed. Essential to understand that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all the Old Testament Messianic prophecies. Thanks to this lesson, this passage from the Gospel of John has depth I never saw before.
Mother Mary and a few already knew his divine identity like for instance the Magi and John the Baptist ,the statement of my hour is not come reveals the sacrifice he has to pay for our transgressions, though before hand several signs were expected to be seen from the long awaited Messiah. So Jesus made an exception in the water to wine case at Cana and whoever believed in it would be free, all actions performed by god's son has universal meaning it depends on the people who perceive and accept. The identity is always been a suspicion by many,so I would say. Praise the lord.
On my view ,lacking of wine in a banquet by people refers to how our fore parents Adam and Ever had full grace of god and they enjoyed in a garden but after a fall that grace disappeared and they were in need of the grace again,so Mary telling Jesus that they have no wine it meant that they have no grace why cant you give them now ,jesus responded lovingly lady what problem do I have with you my time is not yet to come and mary told the servants to do what jesus was to tell them, the time of jesus was on cross when he was pierced on his sacred heart and there came out water and blood the sacraments that give us that grace that Adam and ever lost
The circumstances of this first miracle are so believable and relatable, so everyday, so ordinary, that they could easily fit into a modern social event. It's almost like a scene from a soap opera. It further lays the groundwork, imo, for the credibility of His further miracles.
I also find it particularly interesting the idea that this was a little bit of a warning and an asking of Jesus to Mary if she was alright with this starting His ministry. She was told of the sword that would pierce her heart at the Presentation by the prophet, after all. Scripture is so very deep and wrapped in meaning.
EWTN Bible 9 When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward of the feast called the bridegroom John 2:9 RSV-CE Who are the stewards and why did they know? What’s the theology of this.
My question has to do with the amount of wine that was changed from water- the guests at the wedding had clearly been drinking quite a bit already so why would it have been necessary for JESUS to fill 6-30 gallon containers with water to be changed to wine especially considering his response to his mother- just how much wine could these people drink? Unless it had more to do with JESUS making sure people knew it was a miracle and not just another jug found.
I heard a Priest say that just as Eve brings the invitation of death to Adam (Us), Mary (Eve 2) here, invites Jesus (Adam 2)to start the redaption of man.
This interpretation does not consider the context of the verse; neither the historical nor the literary (the theme of rebirth and marriage that surrounds the story.)
1st: They were not guests. At a Hebrew wedding only 4 or 5 people could command the servants. The mother and father of the bride and the mother and father of the groom generally. 2nd: Hebrew weddings took place in the home town of the groom, Cana. 3rd: Mary's husband Joseph doesn't appear at this wedding. We might assume Mary is a widow. 4th: In this situation the eldest son took the place of the bride's father. That's Jesus. 5th: Many more people came than were expected. Jesus at this time had more disciples than 12. 6th: The steward (sometimes the father of the groom) recognized expensive wine (not grape juice). 7th: After the wedding Jesus went to Capernaum, his home base of ministry, not to Nazareth. His brothers and disciples are with Him. His sisters are missing. In a Hebrew wedding, the bride's natural sisters are her bridesmaids. It was Jesus's sister who was married and He gave her to her husband in place of Joseph and as God gave Eve to Adam.
Ernest Imken - Interesting, but if the protoevangelium of James has any truth to it Christ would have had elder step brothers. They would have been the biological brothers of Christ's step sister and it would have been more fitting for one of them to take the place of Joseph. This is all contingent on whether or not you believe Mary was a perpetual virgin ofcourse.
John Smith CHRIST had brothers and sisters all by Mary and Joseph. After JESUS was born, mary and joseph had a normal sex life as would be expected. MATT1:25”AND HE KNEW HER NOT (a man knowing a woman in the Bible is always sexual)UNTIL SHE BROUGHT FORTH HER F I R S T B O R N SON AND CALLED HIS NAME JESUS “
John Smith also the epistle of James was written by THE LORD’S BROTHER james. The protoevangelium of James is apocryphal and not recognized as legitimately written by James because it is all fanciful conjecture and fabrication lit was written about 150 A .D.And he would have to have been 200 years old at the time .it deals with Mary’s supposed youth, and none of it can be verified biblically. In other words,it is a fairy tale !
Jesus is the Divine Bridegroom. Mary, the mother of the Bridegroom, is our chief steward of grace. She unites us to her Son as the groom's mother does at a traditional Jewish wedding (the 5th stage of the marriage ceremony or Chuppah). The fruit of the vine is symbolic of grace in the Old Testament.
Mary is dead and has no power to do and say anything. Why would GOD put a sinner in control of anything equal to JESUS ? Mary said, LUKE 1:46,”MY SOUL DOTH MAGNIFY THE LORD AND MY SPIRIT REJOICES IN. GOD MY SAVIOR. ! Only sinners need a savior !
Saved by grace And yet you are blind with your protestant misconceptions . And you wrote “ MY SOUL DOTH MAGNIFY THE LORD”. Do you know what “magnify” even means!?!? No one in scripture reveals this but her!! And you say Mary is dead!?!? And you say you read The Bible!?!? Where in Scripture does Christ say that after life there is NO LIFE!?!? Even He in the parable of the poor Lazarus and the rich man He says that after they both died, THEY WERE ALIVE!! Even the rich man asks Abraham (wasn’t he dead!?!?) to INTERCEDE for his brothers!! And what did Jesus say to the Sadducees!?!? God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, NOT the God of the dead, BUT OF THE LIVING!!! So our Blessed Mother, The Virgin Mary IS VERY MUCH ALIVE AND IS PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST AND DOES THE WILL OF THE FATHER AND INTERCEDES FOR US UNTO HER SON IN HEAVEN!!! God bless ;)
@@savedbygrace8867 Why would the All-Holy God become incarnate in the womb of a sinner? Perhaps Mary wasn't a sinner. She was, after all, redeemed in the most perfect way by her Immaculate Conception in view of the foreseen merits of her divine Son. Her soul proclaims the glory of God, while we fall short of His glory. The truth is she is the immaculate New Ark of the Covenant: Mary bore in her womb the living Word of God or Divine Logos, the Bread of Life, and the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek. Keep in mind whose mother Mary is. Or do you think Jesus was just an ordinary rabbi or prophet? You do Our Lord an injustice by dishonoring his most blessed Mother. Anyway, Moses was a sinner, but not unlike Jesus, he was a covenantal mediator. Mary is a factual mediator (not unlike Elijah) by hearing our prayers and praying for us and with us to her Son. She is the Queen Mother of the New Kingdom of David (which is the Church) and acts as our maternal advocate. This doesn't make her equal to our Lord and King, no more than the Gebirah was equal to her son the Davidic king. Mary acts in cooperation with her Son's merits, not in coordination with them. Anyway, God invites us to participate in Christ’s work because we are God’s “fellow workers” and one family in the body of Christ (1 Cor 3:9); God “works for good with” ( “sunergei eis agathon”) those who love Him. We work as subordinate mediators (Rom 8:28); we are a holy priesthood, called to offer spiritual sacrifices to God. We are therefore subordinate priests to the Head Priest, but we are still priests who participate in Christ’s work of redemption. The function of a priest is to mediate or intercede for others (1 Pet 2:5; Rev 1:6; 5:10). The prayers of the righteous (the saints) have powerful effects (Jas 5:16) This is why we ask them for their prayers. The prayers of the saints in heaven are immeasurably more efficacious than our own since they are free from the power of sin. Mary's prayers for us are the most efficacious because she brought Jesus into the world for our redemption and became his mother. Without her consent, the incarnation wouldn't have happened. But she joyfully said Yes because her soul magnified the Lord. She was a daughter after God's own heart. Finally, we read in Matthew 15, 4: “For God said, ‘Honour your father and your mother.’ Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.” The Hebrew word for “honor” in this verse is kavodah, which means in the original context “to bestow glory” on our natural parents. It originates from the word kavod, meaning “weight” or “glory.” The truth is that the Son honored or glorified the Father and was true to Himself as the Word of God by bestowing unprecedented glory upon the woman whom He chose to be His mother by assuming her body and soul into Heaven, as to be not only spiritually but also physically present with her in their filial bond of love for each other.
Excellent interpretation by Dr. PITRE as usual but allow me to add a couple of points. The wedding of Cana sets 2 parallels, one with the Sinai revelation and another with the Crucifixion-Resurrection event (THE HOUR). Many hints point to that : The 3 events occur at the end of a week starting with ON THE THIRD DAY. On the third day, the word of Yahveh was given to Moses and the people believed in him....On the third day, the new wine is offered by Jesus and the people believed in him AND... On the third day, the WORD made flesh rose and the people believed in him. In the 3 texts God's WORD WAS GIVEN TO HIS PEOPLE and his glory revealed. It is worth noticing the recommendation of Mary: Whatever he says to you, do it! Echoing the reply of the Hebrews to Moses...Whatever Yahveh tells us WE SHALL DO. MARY personifies the New Israel in its messianic aspirations...the daughter of Zion, the new Jerusalem, THE WOMAN. Moreover, the wine in Cana symbolizes Jesus himself...unknown to the master of ceremony but revealed to the servants, the wine filled the waterpots TO THE BRIM. THE best wine kept till the end! So Mary's request for wine is, on a deeper level, a request for Jesus to offer himself and save Israel. The seemingly harsh reply : Woman, what do I have to do with you? Could be then interpreted as : Are you aware of the implications of your request? The timing of the wine is at THE HOUR OF THE CROSS! And recalling a famous quote: In Cana Jesus transformed water into wine, on the cross, he transformed the wine into his blood! Interestingly, the only times John mentionned Mary ( THE MOTHER OF JESUS) were at Cana AND at the foot of the cross... where the HOUR of the Glory of God was revealed. AND where Mary's spiritual Motherhood was announced. BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER...and from that HOUR the disciple took her into his own household.
Jesus said that He came down from heaven to do the will of His Father in Heaven. It os not because of Mary that He turned that water into wine. It is the will of the Father in Heaven. Even if Mary want Jesus to turn that water into wine and it is not the will of the Father in Heaven, He will not do that. Of he would have disobey the Father and sinned against Father. Disobedience is a sin Hebrew 4:15 says Jesus was tempted in all aspect but He never sin. The problem is we are comparing God to the way Human think. When its clear in the scripture that God’s way is not our way and His thought are not are our thought. Because of many complicated explanations that it cannot be applied to every day living
all the hours of meticulous study of greek, scriptures, jewish traditions and still missing the essence of this "parable" that Jesus left us....Jesus doesn't appear to be too pleased by Mary's "intercession" on other's behalf, as if he doesn't have foreknowledge of what is to come and what needs to be done....kind of akin to your child in the backseat of your car continuing to ask "are we there yet?" when just minutes away from the destination.
wrong….sounds like you are Protestant….good… then go to Young’s Literal because Jesus is quoting an ancient idiom….used by Eliseus right before Eliseus produced tons of water for three armies in 2 Kings 3:13…”what to me and to you” is said by Eliseus then and Jesus repeats it at Cana. All paraphrasing translations are false and cover up this connection. Jesus would have previously discussed Eliseus with Mary to get her ready for the miracles Jesus would do….both Eliseus and Jesus….multiplied loaves….cured leprosy….raised a dead child to life….produced a needed liquid. Mary feared the miracle period because it would bring on Jesus’ arrest and death given Deut.13:1-5 which mandated the death of any worker of wonders who then taught of other gods……the Trinity….to some Jews. Mary thus feared Jesus being arrested if he produced the wine too publicly……so Jesus quotes Eliseus….” What to me and to you, woman dearest, my hour ( to die) has not yet come.” How did I get woman dearest…from gynai? It means that when the woman is suffering within herself. Go to John 20:13 two angels address the weeping Mary Magdalene with… “woman” gynai. Go to John 20:15, Mary turns around and Jesus who she thinks is the gardener says to her “ Woman, why are you weeping…”. When Jesus sees her suddenly energetic and demanding to know where his body is, He addresses her with her name, verse 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” Likewise Jesus knows Mary is suffering with fear just in asking for the miracle. All present Protestant and Catholic translations of John 2:4 are paraphrases and are totally off point. The literal connects Mary to Eliseus…what to me and to you.
Jesus wasn't planning to start his ministry at Cana by saying: My hour has not yet come. Thus, He changed his own (son of man)earthy plan to keep his own (son of God) fifth commandment. (Honor your father and your mother).
Mary as the New Eve resolves all this. Jesus calls his mother Woman because she is The New Eve. Mary initiates his ministry even when he protests at first because Eve initiated the fall in the Garden of Eden.
What I have come to discover is that this is a multi layered parable, representing not only Jesus’ first miracle, and as I have allude the prophecy of my return, given the exact name, date, time, and birth order, but because it is in Canaan it is also representative of the Waterbearer god. Had this miracle occurred anywhere else, like Bethlehem or Jerusalem or Jericho, then the narrative would have not had that much significance, but because the Canaanites worshipped the Water God El, it further gave heed to those who knew that this was the tribe who worshipped the star constellation Aquarius. Jesus was only following the law; = Honour thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord your G-D gave you. ( means nothing more nothing less. ). Jesus was Honouring his mother. ==== Shen Shalom
@@NevetsWC1134Jesus does what anyone asks in His name. The bible is full of people receiving what they asked of Jesus. Your reasoning for a special consideration since Mary asked is debunked.
Now look up the literal words in Young’s Literal. All paraphrases of his literal words are off point. He was reminding Mary of words Eliseus used right before producing tons of water for three armies…Eliseus said, “what to me and to you” to the King of Israel…in 2 Kings 3:13.
He is harkening back to the book of Genesis. In that, Eve was referred to as Woman ... so Mary is being referred to as Woman, meaning she is the new Eve. The original Eve was born sinless and then was disobedient and fell. The new Eve (Mary), was also born sinless but remained obedient to God and remained constantly in union with God throughout her life.
it's clear A. LETTER TO TIMOTHY 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus! Mattew 24:36 36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. Mattew 23:8-10 8 But be not ye called teachers. for one is your Teacher, even Christ. 9 You are all brothers. And call no man father (Spiritual)upon the earth. for one is Father, which is in heaven.10 And be not ye called masters. for one is your Master, even Christ.... “YOU must not let people call you ‘leaders’-you have only one leader, Christ!” (Matthew 23:10, The New Testament) With these words, Jesus made it plain to his followers that no man on earth would be their leader. Their one Leader would be heavenly-Jesus Christ himself. Jesus holds this position by divine appointment.. Jehovah “raised him up from the dead and . . . made him head over all things to the congregation, which is his body.”-Ephesians 1:20-23. 2 Since Christ is “head over all things” with regard to the Christian congregation, he exercises his authority over all that takes place within the congregation. Nothing that occurs within the congregation escapes his notice. He closely observes the spiritual condition of each group of Christians, or congregation. This is clearly apparent in the revelation given to the apostle John at the end of the first century C.E. To seven congregations, Jesus stated five times that he knew their deeds, their strong points, and their weaknesses, and he gave counsel and encouragement accordingly. (Revelation 2:2, 9, 13, 19; 3:1,8,15,17) There is every reason to believe that Christ was equally familiar with the spiritual condition of other congregations in Asia Minor, Palestine, Syria, Babylonia, Greece, Italy, and elsewhere. I feel like He just meant "Im not ready to start my mission especially the miracles bit...," He was human like the rest of us. He, however, loved his mum so much and broke His "code", of waiting til He was ready. And that's why I love the Rosary. Because Jesus will do all His mother asks 💜🧡❤ Mother Mary intercede for us.
RW M JESUS told mary “WOMAN,WHAT HAVE I TO DO WITH THEE” wHat you feel he meant means nothing. After JESUS birth and upbringing HE had no more need for her. He changed the water into wine, because HE knew she would be humiliated if he turned her down, No one but GOD ALMIGHTY tells JESUS what to do. Mary does not mediate or intercede for anyone because she is dead. 1TIMOTHY 2:5,”THERE IS ONE GOD AND ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN,THE MAN CHRIST JESUS” you must stop trying to understand with your emotions. The rosary is not only vain repetition MATT6:7,”PRAY NOT IN VAIN REPETITION”, IT IS BLASPHEMY . Mary didn’t die for you,JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU !
You just gave an unintelligent simplistic reading of the Bible to fit your Protestant bias but the good thing about being Catholic is that you get to hear the same arguments all over again which can later be refuted
The problem though is the paraphrasing of Christ’s literal words which are in both Young’s Literal for Protestants and in the Latin Vulgate for Catholics….” what to me AND to you, woman, my hour has not yet come.” So in the literal Jesus is talking about a unified two people…he and Mary. In all these bad translations both Catholic and Protestant…paraphrasing are allowed but are guesses really….we instantly lose the unity of the two people expressed in the literal as the Dr. notes. “Woman”…gynai….meant softness which you will uncover as you note two angels find Mary Magdalene crying near the empty tomb of Christ and call her “woman”….then Jesus sees her crying and he calls her woman…but when she recovers and starts making demands of Jesus whom she thinks is the gardener, Jesus then calls her Mary. In short their gynai at that time was heard as “dearest” in that context of a suffering female. Was Mary suffering at Cana? Oh yes….part of her was worried because she knew public miracles would eventually get Jesus arrested per Deut.13:1-5. Jesus knows her worried thoughts as she notes the wine shortage and He addresses her perfectly….” What to me and to you, dearest, my hour (to be arrested) is not yet.” Mary hears a clear yes. All paraphrasing of the literal…lead to Jesus implying…no I can’t help you. Do I think the demons enjoy this translation disaster in all successful versions….both Protestant and Catholic….absolutely.
I think it is another piece in the puzzle that shows Mary is Co Redeemer.. Mary effectively ordered Jesus up out of that Chair and do what I asked of you, she was fully confident that he would, that she sent servants over to him.... Like Solomon he will refuse his Mother the Queen nothing. first and last miracles involved wine and the best of wine. If you overlook the whole ear thing...
Boy, you really read qite a bit into this Bible text in John chapter 2 -- the miracle at Cana. You forgot to mention why Jesus addresses Mary as "woman" instead of "mother" in this account. This is disrespectful in the Jewish culture (and most others as well). For instance if my young son were to address me as "Rocco" (my first name) -- for a close friend that's okay -- but for my son to address me in that way, it's disrespectful. In context Jesus is making it clear to Mary that she had stepped over the line -- that He is the Lord and has the say on when and what to do! And Mary got the message and therefore her response in verse 5. A similar situation come up in Matthew 12:47-50 --- someone says: "your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to speak with You" -- Jesus' reply: "Who is my mother and who are my brothers? Pointing to His disciples, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers. For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”… Jesus doesn't elevate his mother above others, but puts Mary on the same level as all His disciples! Also the explanation of why Jesus said to Mary "my hour has not yet come" is a reminder to her, that He is the Lord who determines when the right time is. He admonishes his brothers with almost the same words in John 7:6 to tell them to back off. What would interest me would be to hear you explain to the viewers here where the term "saints" is used as a classification for a special, elite class of believers (most no longer living on earth) in Jesus with special access rights and priviliges before God. I can't find that anywhere in the Bible! All I can find is that all (without exception) who genuinely receive Jesus as their Lord and savior are sanctified by God's grace. For instance in 1. Corinthians 1:2 Paul addresses the still living recipients of this letter as "saints by calling". Now read the rest of this letter to the Corinthians -- they were by no means an elite class of Christians, but had quite a few serious problems!
Totally incorrect. In John….Two angels use woman to address Mary Magdalene when she is weeping near the empty tomb of Jesus…then Jesus sees her weeping and he addresses her “ gynai…woman”. It actually means dearest if a female is in a worried state. At Cana Mary was worried that if Jesus did a miracle too publicly, he would be arrested, so he addresses his worried mom as dearest…” what to me and to you, gynai, my hour ( to be arrested) is not yet”. That is why Mary heard yes….now you know.
The wedding of cana might have been a symbolic one, not of real people or wedding feast. This passage talks about Jesus Renewing the Creation that was ruin by the Fall of Adam as six jars represents the six days of creation and the wine represents the Blood of Jesus that will be offer to renew man's relationship with God.Mary saying they have no wine simply means they have no life in them, as Divine Life was lost by original sin.Jesus saying my hour has not yet come, speaks of the power of Mary's intercession as he can move God's Divine Plan to unfold. Mary as the Woman has the power in unfolding the Hour of Redemption and so in the Hour of Judgement Mary as the Mother of All the Redeemed also has the power to plead God to extend the Hour of Mercy before God render His judgment.
At this particular time period and era I believe that Mary would plead with God to END all human people that she's probably going to come across in this lifetime and say WTF happened to humanity and all of its people.. but that's just me saying what she might feel if she were here today like hypothetical people
Sucrey galgo JESUS WAS THE NEW COVENANT. Mary was a sinner like all the other sinners. Why would GOD make HIS new covenant on a sinner ? LUKE 1:46”MARY SAID MY SOUL DOTH MAGNIFY THE LORD AND MY SPIRIT REJOICES IN GOD MY SAVIOR” only sinners need a savior !
The new creation is often symbolized by a wedding between God and his people, between Jesus and his church, between the new Adam and the new Eve. In Genesis Adam said: ...SHE SHALL BE CALLED WOMAN...then he called her EVE because she was the MOTHER of all the living. Interestingly, in John's gospel, the two names attributed to Mary by Jesus were WOMAN and MOTHER. In the new creation, Jesus is the new Adam and Mary is the new Eve.
@@savedbygrace8867 there are two kinds of salvation. The one were you already committed sin and the one were you are on the bridge of committing it but someone prevented you to do so by Gods grace. Mother Marys salvation is an example of the latter. Take this, you cant only be saved when youre currently bitten by a dog, you can also be saved when someone prevents and yell at you not to come near where the dog was.
Hans Hoerdemann I disagree. Just because this is the first documented miracle doesn’t mean they have not been doing them. Also - I’ve heard said that the reason the wedding ran out of wine is because Jesus showed up with some of his disciples at the wedding. Which makes sense. And so, his ministry had already begun
NO...in the Gospel of John the HOUR is mentioned many many times and refers to the moment Jesus enters his passion-death- resurrection. That is why the miracle of Cana is placed by John at the end of a week....and THREE DAYS LATER....a prelude of the resurrection when Jesus Glory is fully revealed.
This why we pray to Mary. She is able to ask favours off God. And because she is the beloved daughter of the Father, and the mother of God, and the Spouse of the Holy Spirit - God is inclined to grant her request.
Your constant flashing of the 666 handsign is truly disturbing. And Jesus is GOD in the flesh. He is subservient to no one! He never once called her his mother, but "woman". She did not even ask him (much less tell him) to remedy the wine problem; she merely told him they were out of wine. Matthew 12:47Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48But he answered and said unto him that told him, *Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?* 49And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Mary was a sinner like all humans. She was blessed to carry Jesus CHRIST into the world, but he is God in the flesh and has no mother. She was a vessel used for God's glory, that does not make her sinless. She was married and had other children, so she was not a virgin after the birth of Jesus Christ. Catholics, repent of this blasphemy and idolatry of raising up a human sinner and downplaying the authority of Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings! He is Almighty God, and doesn't defer to his "mommy" for any decisions! Read the King James Bible for the truth and come out of her, the harlot described in detail in Revelation 17:4 *And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication* 5And upon her forehead was a name written, *MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER ("church")OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH* 6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus(inquisitions): and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. Jesus did not drink, and was not Catholic. No record of the false religion of Catholicism anywhere in the Bible. The Church are the born again believers, NOT a body of religious followers of traditions of men!

He is all powerful, so amazing and so beautiful and loving, but also THE authority of all - NOT a sinning human "priest".. I am so grateful the HE is my teacher and that I can see the massive lies in all religions, including protestant denominations. Some truth mixed with lies, for sure. It is our responsibility to learn the Truth by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to avoid pitfalls like practicing idolatry and RE-sacrificing Jesus all day every day around the globe. (Eucharist, mass). It is so obvious, I cannot BELIEVE how people fall for the pathetic "biblical" reasons and semantics the Church has taught you to parrot. Pray to Jesus for insight and Truth - HE won't lie to you like Satan's favorite religion does. Oh, and as a former pagan witch, your religion is TOTALLY pagan, with goddess Trinity worsh- I mean "veneration". Always depicting Jesus as a helpless infant or dead on a cross? He is going to be your judge! He is coming back to judge and make war with wickedness, and your mother church is chief on his list. Stop belittling Almighty Jesus Christ, He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and you are going to see just how powerful He is on Judgement Day. I pray you repent of the sins your church has taught you, and establish a Personal relationship with Him forsaking the harlot before it's too late.
It's a good day when we get a Brant Pitre video. Thank you so much for all you and your team do!
Dr. Pitre teaches is such a relatable manner. Thank you Dr Pitre , I love listening to your lectures and reading your books.
This is my favorite gospel. It has so many layers. Shows some banter between Jesus and Mary. Mary, as Jesus mother, is pulling Jesus forward into his ministry.
Dadadada Batman your super smart.. just like me!! Lol US!!
@tony That's NOT true
Jesus takes the role of the bridegroom...I never caught that before. Wow, I love the word of God, praise you King Jesus.

This is a great combination.. Very clear of what is an important teaching. Thank you Father for this teaching.
Thanks for your comment Nicolaas.

God bless you Dr. Brant Pitre. Such refreshing perspective on the Cana wedding miracle.
Thank you Dr Brant, you have helped me, in so many ways, to understand my Bible more fully! God bless & keep you🙏🏻🐾
Excellent video!
It also explains why the early church fathers turned to Mary for intercession, which we practice even today.
are you putting Mary over Jesus???

Our beautiful blessed Virgin Mary, the pure, holy Mother of our God & Savior Jesus Christ is the epitome of who God wants everyone to be. She's also our Heavenly Mother who prays for us & with us.

His "Hour" was also initiated by an act of Transubstantiation, which He "prematurely" performs at Cana.

Nice explanation.
Beautiful
Beautiful 🙏😍
Wonderful conference!
She must have forgotten for a while
1OO1O11O11O1O JESUS NEVER ASKED MARY FOR PERMISSION TO DO ANYTHING EXCEPT GO TO THE POTTY.

EWTN Bible
9 When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward of the feast called the bridegroom
John 2:9 RSV-CE
Who are the stewards and why did they know? What’s the theology of this.
Great insight. Thank you 🙏
My question has to do with the amount of wine that was changed from water- the guests at the wedding had clearly been drinking quite a bit already so why would it have been necessary for JESUS to fill 6-30 gallon containers with water to be changed to wine especially considering his response to his mother- just how much wine could these people drink? Unless it had more to do with JESUS making sure people knew it was a miracle and not just another jug found.
I’m a little confused… Is Mary changing Jesus’ mind and did Jesus inaugurate the Messianic banquet at this wedding?
Why are the subtitles in some language not English?
Also,, ask our mother Mary for a miracle and she will go straight to her son, he never refuses her
@Tiger Simple 1 Kings 2:19-20
are you putting Mary over Jesus???
Ohhh, and in my literal reading, I assumed He meant His ministry had not begun yet and so completely missed most of the rest of this.
Dr. Pitre, would you share the right way to receive the holy communion. Thanks! Paul
It's very interesting and so nice and lovely SUCH an amazing story ❤️😍💕 only in the Bible!!!
Ernest Imken wow,Ernest,I love you.
And he will say Come and she will say come!! At the feast 😎😁😍
Disobedience is a sin
Hebrew 4:15 says Jesus was tempted in all aspect but He never sin.

Mary was not the " mother of God." Jesus was in the beginning and Mary was not.
❤
Why Jesus call Mary "Woman" and not mother or mommy.
Its common for the people of ancient times.
@@KikiFu in the Greek it’s the same word used in both Genesis and John

(Acts 1:8) What of today?

You just gave an unintelligent simplistic reading of the Bible to fit your Protestant bias but the good thing about being Catholic is that you get to hear the same arguments all over again which can later be refuted
Kene Aniagboso specifics if you please .

At this particular time period and era I believe that Mary would plead with God to END all human people that she's probably going to come across in this lifetime and say WTF happened to humanity and all of its people.. but that's just me saying what she might feel if she were here today like hypothetical people
Doesn't explain why He called Mary... 'WOMAN'?
Woman was a fulfillment of genesis 3:15 / jeremiah 31; when god promise to establish a new covenant.

Why would GOD make HIS new covenant on a sinner ?
LUKE 1:46”MARY SAID MY SOUL DOTH MAGNIFY THE LORD AND MY SPIRIT REJOICES IN GOD MY SAVIOR”

Below is a good explanation of why He calls her Woman.

There is only one name. That name is Jesus Christ.
The wedding was of Jesus to Mary Magdalene and the wine thing never happened nice story
Disgusting blasphemy repent before it's too late
Woman, was that to you and to me?
τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί, γύναι;
Oh man, Greek is read from left to right.
Wrong. The Hour is the start of His ministry, not the crucifixion. He isn't ready to start doing miracles.
During His Ministry, whenever Jesus makes reference to the Hour, He's talking about His Passion, Death and Resurrection. So....

But she hears a yes.
This why we pray to Mary. She is able to ask favours off God. And because she is the beloved daughter of the Father, and the mother of God, and the Spouse of the Holy Spirit - God is inclined to grant her request.

Women!
Read the King James Bible for the truth and come out of her, the harlot described in detail in Revelation 17:4 *And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication*
5And upon her forehead was a name written, *MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER ("church")OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH*
6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus(inquisitions): and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
TSeeker777..I'm going to say this with love...I can hear you love Jesus, as do all catholics! You have a concern with man-made traditions...I don't think you realize you have a man-made religion! Catholics can trace their religion back to Jesus..Not john Calvin or Martin Luther! You seem like an intelligent person and wouldn't be afraid to do a little learning...look up catholic answers..they have some great thealogions...not just preachers..they can answer your questions way better than I could! I would bet if you had a good teacher even you(meaning with a serious protestant background) could see truth! We always have room for 1 more..after all it's what Jesus would want from you! Here are a few more names for you to look up..it doesn't mean you have to convert, it's just a learning tool to know what it is us Catholics really believe..Dr. Scott and kimberly Hahn..Dr. David Anders...and one of my favorites for speaking in layman terms...Steve Ray! God bless you! 💕
Rosie Girl, perfect answer!!!
@@suzana2963 ..thank you!
@@rosiegirl4751 I am not protestant. I despise religion, it is a demon and will take many well meaning people to hell, because they listened to men, and didn't study to be show themselves approved (God's infallible word). I understand the indoctrination goes very deep, it is brainwashing at its finest. But your blasphemous church won't save you. Come out of her, lest ye be partakers of her sins and receive her plagues. Catholic/Orthodox doctrine is heresy, plain as the nose on your face. I pray every day for the lost followers of this tradition to be convicted and wake up! I was a practicing occultist and a hater of the biblical God for many decades, until my demons almost killed me, and Jesus rescued me right where I was.
Amen TSeeker777
I have never liked the taste of wine. Yuck.
May be you have not been to Mediterranean countries.
This man likes to change things that doesn’t ft in with doubtful catholic doctrines, , what is in the bible doesn’t seem to matter much to him.
False teaching!!
Good job this wedding didn't happen in the British Isles. 180 gallons of anything wouldn't last a couple of hours
