    After a few 43rd builds I learned to over drill the mounting holes to make sure they are about right with primer, paint, and clear coat. You have a really nice build there! Thanks for the share.

      Yup - and I need to over drill a faction more! lol

    Awesome build. I saw a clip on the real car and the decals are faded just like your 1:20 model. No doubt your model is period correct.

      Hahaha - I'll go with the 'period correct'!

    Nice job! I like the look of these tameo F1 Ferraris. Would be interested to see how the later kit you mentioned compares.
    I have the 1-43 GP Replicas high airbox (late season) version of Mansell's 640. I also have a 641/2 (the proper later season variant of the 641) by GP Replicas. It looks way too squat to me, absolutely rubbish, they've ruined a beauty. I think their shaping is very hit and miss, & they're not cheap. The 1989 car (based on my models anyway) is far better looking. The tameo 641 looks way more sleek and sexy. I saw recently some reasonably priced tameo 641s on ebay, however, on closer inspection they were the early season one, which isn't the archetypal 641, and looks too similar to the 640, so I didn't bother buying it. (MoMA version has the 'double bubble' sidepod openings which help differentiate it).

    Nice work! I've always preferred the look of the pre-2000 over the more modern F1 cars. Also, rounding the edges of the suspension parts a bit with a file is a relatively fast & easy way to improve the look of the delicate photo etched suspension arms. Keep up the good work!

    • @wixy500
      @wixy500  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed - I reckon mid 70s to mid 90s would be my favs. Good tip with the suspension. I didn't do any rounding on this build, just filed off the attachment points and trimmed the length of the pushrods.

    It's crazy how expensive these kits are but they are detailed nicely.

      Very true, and newer kits carry even more detail than this old one.

    You have produced a very impressive build of one of my all time favourite F1 cars! Very honest with your steps and how you built this one. I would have liked to see how you put the rear wing assembly together, I always struggle with them, most of the time I use callipers to try and get it all square. I will check out your other builds and website!

    • @wixy500
      @wixy500  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I forgot to take a photo of the rear wing being assembled. They can be a real pain! I make sure all the parts fit ok, then with this one, it was all assembled in one shot while resting on its back on a flat surface. I just held and tweaked by hand to get it looking square before the glue cured. I have tried using callipers in the past, but found that was just something else to move and cause issue! lol. I'm thinking a couple of heavy and square brass blocks might be an option in future.

    • @aerosmudge3238
      @aerosmudge3238 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wixy500 good idea on the brass blocks. Might try that myself. Also, how did you produce the sign on the base with the car and driver name?

    • @wixy500
      @wixy500  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aerosmudge3238 That's just printed onto paper on my home printer, cut out and glued to the base with PVA/wood glue. My brother has just bought a laser engraver, so hoping to try that out on a future build.

    What not just use spacers on the base between thr screws ans the body to avoid having to destructively modify the kit?
    Great job though in spite of the fairly average looking kit quality.

    • @wixy500
      @wixy500  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wanted to get the model lower to the ground to be more reflective of the minimal ride height these cars ran. Built stock with spacers, it would sit too high. Some people like to use spacers so the whole model is elevated off the plinth, but I prefer them low and with wheels resting on the surface.
