  • This welding job was one of the most grueling ones I’ve done to date. It took everything Mr Clean ,Cricket and me had to get it done. With over 26 hours of raw footage and 500+ cuts the edit was just as grueling. I completed this job in January and just got around to sorting through all those hours of welding and fabrication. I hope you enjoy this one and maybe pick a welding tip or too up along the way. I poured my heart into it.
    Here’s some of the welding gear I used-

  • @lonncooper1
    @lonncooper1 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    The drill speed only affects the chip size for a given pressure. The formula for the correct speed depends on the material you are drilling and the diameter of the drill. Going too fast is what burns out drills. Once you have the speed correct, you can adjust the pressure to get the chips you want.

    • @thewafen763
      @thewafen763 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you don't really know the rpm of the bit so you cant calculate sfm. Just try different speeds and see which one puts out the least amount off heat into the material.

    Welder and machinist here. Your almost correct about chip size. Small is no good, too fast or not enough downward force. But you are incorrect about long chips. The perfect pressure to speed ratio for drilling holes will result in very long chips. Ideally if it was perfect it would create one longggg chip but that’s near impossible on a drill. Just look at any machinist drilling holes in slow mo, all very long chips. Long chips = good. Short chips= no good

    What type of drill bit are you supposed to use? Just any old one that says carbide? What size should I create a pilot hole with in order to start a step drill (I need to make a 1/2" hole in 1/16" aluminum).

  • @dakotasclassiccars7246
    @dakotasclassiccars7246 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Out of curiosity what is the downside of the speed being on the too fast side of things? Is it cutting less when you get longer chips? I haven’t payed a ton of attention of the rate at which it cuts when speed is changed. Because I generally look for the longer chips.

  • @evandrewmartinez1
    @evandrewmartinez1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I personally try to drill the entire hole with only a single chip that wraps up around the drill chuck and starts whipping past my wrists. I like doing it this way because I don't need safety glasses. The reason there is only one chip is because I like to sharpen my own drill bits and it's only one side that ever cuts. My holes usually come out pretty close, less than an inch away from where I wanted them 😅😂😂😂

      @@randallradke1279 I dont think you understand the meaning of the phrase you used. This video isnt a perfect example of the saying "One mans trash is another mans treasure." That phrase is used when referring to a person or people when theyre being resourceful and seeing value or usefulness in something which would otherwise be deemed unusable/unwanted by most. Ex. A person throws away a refrigerator because it no longer regulates the correct temperature properly, then another person comes along (who happens to need a refrigerator) see's value in it and takes it and simply changes the thermostat which gets the refrigerator running as good as new saving him hundrends/thousands for not having to purchase a new one. That would be a perfect example of "One mans trash is another mans treasure." "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish feed him for a life time." Is a commn phrase that would suit this video better. Hand a drill to anyone and theyll drill a hole, it probably wont be any good and they probably really struggled too, but teach them how to drill and they now have the knowledge on how to properly drill a hole correctly they can carry on with for their life time.

  • @phalanyx3478
    @phalanyx3478 ปีที่แล้ว

    Buy a mag drill with a Morse Taper 3 to R32 Collet adapter to hold a wider range of tooling that a 3 jaw drill chuck is inadequate for. Beware this setup can be very unsafe if you try to do too much. You can hold solid carbide tooling for drilling spring steel, end mills for plunge milling slotted holes or counterboring holes for cap screws, boring heads for shallow line boring, or holding taps with Morse Taper 3 tap sleeves. If you are tapping these holes you can use a gun tap for through holes which pushes the chips forward out of the hole (no backing required) or a spiral flute tap for blind holes which pulls the chip up and out of the hole.

    • @phalanyx3478
      @phalanyx3478 ปีที่แล้ว

      This can make you a lot of fucking money. Even more if you can set a mag drill up on an old manual mill ram with a fly cutter to basically bring a milling machine to the job site for surfacing parts that need resurfacing.

    the size or shape of the chip has nothing to do with the rpm of drill, the feed speed is what changes the chip size. too slow a rpm speed will cause drill breakage due to excessive feed speed/pressure....too fast a rpm speed and you will overheat the drill bit and ruin the heat treatment causing the bit to dull and then chip the flutes due to the extra pressure needed to cut
