She looks good! I admire those engineers who can replace the big complex engines, they quietly get the job done! A salute to the flight crews who can pilot this huge flying boat! Thanks to all who support this fantastic aircraft!
They proved their worth in the early days, and they also mapped the way of the future aka 415 and now the 515! Even the PBY Cats could not hold a flame to the 415s. 😁 Check out the Viking Air 515 video! There is another video that tells the story of the water bombers and as they get larger, they must fly higher to make their drops. The 415 can get below 100 ft! Small and more of them is better than huge and singular! However, I am very pleased to have experienced the Mars exploits and as I told my boys almost twenty-five years ago when we viewed the Spruce Goose, "You have seen the world's largest seaplanes! Some of which are still working in our backyard."
To bad Coulsen couldn't still be flying them, I think they were something like 7100 or 7200 US gallons a drop. That could have done something on those L.A. fires if they could drop saltwater. The superscoopers are.
The Philippine Mars was on its way south to its new home when there was a problem with the engine near Pt Townsend WA. It diverted back to Patricia Bay near YYJ, then barge towed to Cowichan Bay with a replacement motor from the Hawaii Mars. Looks like it's been installed, it is red one off the Hawaii Mars. Amazingly aircraft. We here on Vancouver Island love our Mars water bombers.
@@Dbodell8000 The Hawaii won't be going anywhere, it already reached it's final destination. Only makes sense to help Philippine reach hers. They can ship the correct parts back later after she reaches PIMA.
I hate to break it to you but there are only 2 flying aircraft left in the world and they have the only serviceable parts available for the aircraft. The Hawaiian is now permanently parked while the Philippines still has a journey to make so it makes sense that the only other serviceable aircraft is a short distance away. Plus as already stated the swap is temporary. Learn to deal with it

Excellent footage Campbell. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland.
Is she still being given to the americans?
I saw it flying over Parksville today; wish it was in So Cal right now.
Looking good. Glad the Hawaii Mars could be a parts doner. I want to see it come to Tucson
Perhaps a few water dropps over LA right now to help out, what a way to retire her for good ;-)

In the Water! Full Engine swap?

Could you imagine 14400 Gallon drop on a Fire hot spot? CL-415's are 1200 gallon.
@@dootdoot1867The retired Global Super Tanker 747 was the largest air tanker ever built to date. It carried 19,600 US gallons per flight.
That looks like a really expensive boat
Canada has one as well the largest water boomer in the world nice
Wow, it would be interesting to know the backstory here. Ty!

Red eye'd Mars
They would struggle to make those today........
If it flies,,g3t it to L.A.
Please quit taking parts off the Hawaii.
It's only temporary. Plus there's nowhere else to get parts for the Martin Mars.
@Karuiko Ya but it leaves the Hawaii with all the broken parts and the US bound Philipine with the servicable parts.
@@Dbodell8000 Ah Ya, it needs those parts to fly south. These were built in the US, quit whining about it, we have one to show 😭🇨🇦
