So, there i was in Luxor, Egypt sitting at the breakfast table at my hotel with my little son and best friend. They came to serve us a cool drink. The drink was a deep rich dark red. I asked what is this? They called it "Kaladeh" we all tasted it at the same time. We all said "this tastes just like Sorrell" . Couple Google searches let us know that this drink was indeed Sorrel!! Turns out it is a ancient tradital drink in Egyptian cuisine. Usually drank in the morning all year round. This made us really happy to know as the children of Jamaican parents❤❤ Thank you for sharing your beautiful recipe.
Loved that you added the white sorrel. So many jamaicans have never heard of it before. Ps- cinnamon adds a nice touch to the sorrel as long as its not too much 😋

🔥🔥🔥🔥 All the drinks look lovely. I didn’t know there was a white sorrel, you learn something new everyday. I’m in the U S and grow the red ones. Is it possible to send me some of the seeds for the white one. I’ll take care or the shipping expenses.
Ok. Ginger leaves 🍃, never used them ever. Instead of the limes I use home dried orange peels and I add bay leaves and 2 cloves depending the quantity.
Remember sorrel well when I lived in Jamaica, never had the white one. Similar to cranberry as astringent and tangy, but much better flavour IMO. The way it had it was strong (almost syrup), sweetened with ice. Really refreshing. Also "lemonade" made out of servile oranges was one of the best tasting I had. A ton of sugar probably give you diabetes, but the dark green orange are super sour so... Aslo fresh tamarind made in juice or with the lemonade also nice Sugar cane juice also nice, once in a while.
