Denholm Elliot is one of the greatest character actors I have known. His performances are utterly mesmerising, but never to the detriment of his fellow actors. His heartfelt passion and sincerity in this scene are incredibly touching. He was also an excellent comic actor too. I thoroughly recommend his performance as the sleazy ambassador in Ripping Yarns as an example of this.
I read this book on a whim over vacation this year and was by astounded. I certainly did not expect that this little novel would actually change my life. I saw an interview where Zadie Smith cites this book as a key influence for her and she calls it a “young persons novel”. I have to agree with her, Forster was pretty young when he wrote it and the character of Lucy is who I relate so strongly to now as I’m in my younger twenties - I feel like I’m constantly in a middle! 😂😂 Stuck trying to figure out what I actually want vs what is expected of me. This scene where Mr.Emerson reveals her own truth to her is my favorite part of the story. It’s such a powerful thing when all at once this girl gains the clarity and insight to see herself clearly, and go after what she wants 👏👏👏
I like Mr Emerson's quotes in this movie.... Quotes in this scene and the one in the museum 'Built by faith... Simply means workers weren't paid properly... '...stands out...

"You love George, you love the boy body and soul as he loves you." "But of course I do what did you all think?"
I wish we still spoke this way, how much richer life would be
We can start speaking in this way if we like😊
And no one was invading our heads 🙂 It’s like a mythical Shangri La at this point.. never to return until the end of the age…
I never get tired of it. Nearly 40 years, and I never get tired of it.
A truly memorable film of a past era!
it's the best movie!!
She is absolutely bloody gorgeous - the 18-year-old me said at the time. I can't help but repeat myself.
RIP Denholm Elliott (May 31, 1922 - October 6, 1992), aged 70
You will be remembered as a legend.
Denholm Elliott should have won the Oscar for this performance.
He was nominated. Yes, he should have!
I love the portrayal of Mr. Emerson by this actor! I cant help but love him!
he's got the lovely sort of diffidence which is so well on display here-
That is such a beautiful scene in such a beautiful movie.
It's the most exquisite film ever made.
YES!

Mr. Emerson speaking so directly is such a refreshing comparison to modern dissembling. The script, deftly executed by Denholm Elliot is superb here.
" 'You love George. You love the boy, body and soul...'
'But of course I do. What did you all think?' "
Denholm Elliott
is a class actor, I love this guy.
Mr. Emerson was my favorite character in the movie.
Totally. He is the lynchpin of the whole plot too. Magnificent performance by the late, great Denholm.
I rewatch this scene frequently. Perfection in performance and words.
The only person that I truly admire in the story. Such a beautiful, wise character.
Mr Emerson is the final boss of the game but he scores points and critical hits in emotional damage 😁😩🤗❤️🥲
Crocodile tears triggered by the devil himself but a beautiful scene it really should be..
My God..... where did those 35 years go?
In a blink of the eye!
Powerful stuff.
This scene makes me cry.
Incrediblly well acted scene
Great..
Anyone success with finding the psalm chant??
It's the hymn "Praise, my soul, the King of heaven" - words by Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847). Taken from Psalm 103.
@@aerodynamicUK omg thank you thank you a million times I cannot thank you enough ❣
Is anyone familiar with the background choir music?
The hymn is "Praise, my soul, the King of heaven" - music written by John Goss, words by H F Lyte.
