    Hi Graham, I always used a standard ford distributor with the vacuum blocked off and Lumenition fitted, the car produced 140 BHP @ the wheels on the GRV rolling road with the 48 DCO/SP carbs tweaked by Harry Radcliffe himself back in 1980, what a nice man RIP.
    Cheers
    Dave. 😀

    The luminition kit to replaice the points and condenser was one of the best mods I ever made., Better starting and a good solid pull through out the rev range

    Many years ago built a 2.0l Pinto for small oval racing using a Mallory dual-point distributor and a MSD-6 ignition amplifier. Worked rather well from memory......

    In the mid 1980’s, electronic ignition for a Pinto was prohibitively expensive.
    My solution was to replace the stock ignition coil with Mallory high powered coil. Unlike most long cylinders coils of the day, it was short stocky rectangle with HV lead emerging from the side.
    The spark was very “hot” and it only took one “bit” from it to make me respect it while running.
    One unexpected benefit of the Mallory was it greatly improved the idle and tip-in torque.

    I drive a 123 ignition on my 81 transit with 2.0 pinto. Its fully mappable trough bluetooth and the app also works as a digitale dashboard, and you can set a code as a anti theft system. It Costs quite alot 500 euro's i believe. But my van has never been running better. With the old motocraft points distributor with Electronic conversion in it i had to replace rotor and cap every 3k. I even had the "specialist" take a look at it. And i barely made it home. And then i Just bought the 123 because i have had one in my other classic for years and it was working realy well.

    i fitted a electronic ignition to my fiesta supersport`s in the late 80`, i think it was a LUCAS unit only payed about £40 for it the engine never felt crisp with it but it kept running with it for year`s . the old point`s felt 8% better when set up right but thay went a bit off after a couple of month`s so you hade to readjust them [ bit of a pain to get to ] love your vid`s KEEP MAKING SOME NOISE

    Just as expected. Same advance, same power (besides the misfiring burton). Only advance to bestek is the customisable advance curves on order.
    I run efi dizzy and a standalone ecu, so my stock ford dizzy is fully costumisable advance.
    Can you perhaps test an efi dizzy with a golf mk3 coil and an ecu? I might be able to set you up with a set to borrow if you want to

      Do you where can i read about this swap? I'm about to put some work into my pinto, and better ignition would be nice! Tried google, but it left me disappointed.

    The fact that the Burton wanted more timing - and had a bit of misfire can also be related to rotor phasing. If the rotor is too far away from the terminal such issues can occur. That said, there would probably be more of a difference to note in the 1800 to 3000 rpm range which will be in relation to just how fast or slow the advance comes in.

    Hi Graham. Since they are also very common and pretty reliable, might be an idea to see Aldon, Pertronix ( probably not Accuspark ) type of simple Ignitor conversions as an episode 2 :) cheers

    • @PenguinMotors
      @PenguinMotors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      could do, but unless your turning some serious rpm you wont see any change in power swapping between varying electronic ignitors, or points for that matter

      I’m pretty certain a higher engine spec would of shown a bigger difference, that said I have seen 190bhp on a standard points distributor still running points

  • @bobawatsit
    @bobawatsit 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    well there is something to be said for old tech, usually reliable and mostly fixable at the roadside. but if we move on 100 years, how about a mapped ignition V points/bobweights
    Ignition timing is way more critical than fuel ratio
