At one time musical education was considered vital and the forces wanted to show ppl that they weren't just creating fighting men but well rounded, well educated men as well- shows a softer, more cultured side of the armed forces to the ppl. This way they're more wiling to let their children join, to want them to join in fact- at one time it was about the only way poorer ppl had to hopefully move up in the world. Things are drastically different now but- once something becomes a tradition in the armed forces- it never goes away.

The US Military provided me a good start to my adult life and still provides a very valuable service to our nations youth in the same fashion. God Bless the US Military
This is one of my new favorite videos. Army won with more flare, but I think Air Force was a little more tight and precise. Those last couple grooves are two that our high school uses, and it was awesome seeing people way more talented than me rocking them. "Jungle Love" and, what I have been recommending our school does, "Jungle Swing"
One thing I would love to hear a drum line do no matter what group it is, is YYZ by Rush and bringing in the horns and doing a collective of the drum parts together, I'm sure it could be done
2:30 as a ex Cymbal Player and Bass player for a High School drum line letting snare players play your cymbals like that is insanely hard to keep the cymbals straight and sound right the vibrations also start to hurt your finger tips especially if it’s cold out.
The majority of the video I thought, “Mmmhm, Army definitely wins,” but then the end happened, and I thought, “Wow, they both win!” Beautiful. Well done. 😀
Love the ending. True spirit of the military there. We all think our particular branch is better, we bicker and fight about it but in the end we all come together to get shit done.
Now we just got to wait for a Jig 2 with the Army, Air force, Navy, and Marines, Space Force, And Coast Guard. But seriously. I love how even though they are all military men, they are having actual fun with playing the instruments they love.
Define considerably, I noticed it at times but unless you were right next to them like how the video was taken, chances are it'd have been unnoticeable, but ya I agree
considerably as in overall not as good; to the untrained eye or ear they prob wouldn't notice it much. Being in a drum line myself in my younger days I notice it much more than the average joe

even air force looked like they enjoyed it
That's a show of good sport haha
friendship wins!!!!!
Both units are fantastic. So proud of them all.
lol when you're a band kid and you get drafted
ATOMICxCIMOTA lmaoo
Underrated comment lmfaoooo
Right!!😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Just chilling at your drum one day and your teacher throws a paper airplane that says welcome to the US Air Force Marching Band dang
Army won hands down.
The Air Force sounded very mechanical throughout their performance where as the Army actually mixed it up and was all in all more entertaining
IMO
The Army is the winer
👍🏻
The army had more soul in their beats... Hotblooded. Airforce silencers
@@clementmbuk7909
*Winner 😁
I'm not a drum major or percussionist but the Army's second cadence sounded like one of the final battle arrangements from the movie Drumline.
Mark Demmin II, The Vintage Voice it was
glad Im not the only one that notice lmao
The US Military provided me a good start to my adult life and still provides a very valuable service to our nations youth in the same fashion. God Bless the US Military
This is one of my new favorite videos.
Army won with more flare, but I think Air Force was a little more tight and precise.
Those last couple grooves are two that our high school uses, and it was awesome seeing people way more talented than me rocking them. "Jungle Love" and, what I have been recommending our school does, "Jungle Swing"
Best part is when they all just start having fun together.
Airforce brought out the Airforce Academy freshman class and the Army brought West Point returning cadets
Guyatridas kerr no wonder there so good if there from West Point
Ok that made me laugh
Eh
hahahahaha I’m so dead
Pretty sure the soldier standing closest to the camera is wearing pfc rank...
One thing I would love to hear a drum line do no matter what group it is, is YYZ by Rush and bringing in the horns and doing a collective of the drum parts together, I'm sure it could be done
OK!!
Though I served in the AF...I MUST admit the ARMY did a MUCH BETTER JOB
I thought Airforce held back. I was waiting for them to open up holy hell on those drumbs and they didnt. I am going with, they held back.
Thanks for protecting us all. #salute
The air force guys were playing much more technical stuff
You have a good ear laddie!
@@timothyoreilly6571 But the army swung harder :)
4:26 everybody gangsta until the ARMY Glitch!
I notice this video is fast forwarded only in the army side.
If all were given a rifle and told to shoot the other side, which side would be the last ones standing? That's what I would like to see.
Army of course
They would both loose
Josh Summerford Except they wouldn't both "loose". Nice try.
Oh...
Considering they're in the band, both sides would probably forget to make their weapons condition 1 and some idiot would ND into the crowd.
2:30 as a ex Cymbal Player and Bass player for a High School drum line letting snare players play your cymbals like that is insanely hard to keep the cymbals straight and sound right the vibrations also start to hurt your finger tips especially if it’s cold out.
2:02 are not going to talk about the girl in the back casually flipping her cymbals like a boss
The majority of the video I thought, “Mmmhm, Army definitely wins,” but then the end happened, and I thought, “Wow, they both win!” Beautiful. Well done. 😀
The ending of this video was so damn wholesome
The Air Force sounded military, the Army sounded like an episode of Hawaii 5-0🤣
the person flipping around the symbols like they weighed nothing
I've got sore arms just watchin
Army drumline was on a whole other level. AF was good, but Army guys blew it out of the water!
INDEED. 🙌🏽🔥🥁🔥🙌🏽
I love how even though they are all military men, they are having actual fun with playing the instruments they love.
air force looks better, army plays better
especially the second snare from the right :3
Bob's Your Uncle army’s formal is nothing lol I think you mean The marines formal
Terry Yao rthfftfr
Terry Yao true and the cymbals on the army drum line were being held incorrectly, no offense to the army
Army had better music, but they were considerably sloppier in performance & tightness
+reluctant nabi (A BLACK MAN'S PERSPECTIVE) no they weren't. They were playing in competition with the Air Force... and the whole band was there, not only their percussion. I mean the Army did an awesome job, but you can't say they were playing for the musically-ignorant.
+paul rogers AF bass line definitely had timing issues, but yeah they were they better DL overall.
So as that other guy in the army
I didn't know that symbol stand was an MOS when I joined the Army. WTF
It's 69W
Manned percussive accessory specialist.
And I went 11B???
That is hilarious right there. I’m planing to go 15W in the National Guard. Just figured I’d let y’all know.
Right. Lol.
Ken Nash me too buddy. Me too.
My son plays drumline in his marching band and I LOVED this!
As mentioned all over, the Air Force drumming was very very clean, but the quality of the Army sound was phenomenal
It was so incredibly nice on the ears! 🔥
I think they are all ON THE SAME TEAM 😂😂
But I give it to Army because of their freestyle.
The army guy in the tenors next to the snares is have the best time of his life!
Partial to army, because I was a volunteer for Garlstedt Army Music and Theatre Division, in the late 80s. Great that they played together at the end.
best part was when they all jammed together at the end
That was all cool, but the coolest was how they all played together in the end!
loved em both - 2 different styles and disciplines. ...and the winner was ???? me !
I just gotta say, thank you ALL for your service to our great country but damn this Army drumline is hard! The tenor deserves something #armywonbro
