    the reason why ur nvme ssd isn't detected is because these older laptops only support sata m.2 drives, not nvme... it happened to me once.

    Nice video. As for the M.2 drive if it was a ( B-Key ) drive then it's Sata , { M-Key } = NVME. Checking it for how it's formatted with a seperate system would be what I would do. Could check the Bios and see what it says about the type of M.2 that it has support for. As for the ram ; since it's gonna be an editing machine maybe a higher capacity ram module then 8-gb might help. The Vega-8 IGPU isn't bad , but compared to even an entry level RDNA model the performace you got is probably the best you could expect. The extra ram could maybe help with the graphics performance. I didn't notice if you said anything about a bios update ; just that you went into the bios. I always like to watch these videos on upgrading laptops and how they perform before and after. Keep up the wonderful work and videos.

    I've got a Ryzen based machine from an off brand, Wally World special. It's got an artificial limit on one of the M.2 slots on my model. The primary slot is NVME enabled, but the secondary slot is SATA only. I've got my OS and normal data on the primary. I slapped an old SATA drive in the second slot for video storage. The next model up didn't have that limitation.

      And that laptop is a 2019 manufacture date, so pretty similar to yours.

    You can put a SATA M.2 drive in there and upgrade your storage even more. I am surprised at your Cinebench rating. I have a laptop with Ryzen 7 3700u which gives 3050 points in multi-core. Ryzen 5 2500u should be giving around 750 points in single core and 2500-3000 points for multi-core in Cinebench R23. Somehow your CPU is being throttled. Check the performance settings, run the benchmark while connected to power. Re-apply the thermal paste of the CPU if that helps. Edit: I realized you used the 2024 version. Ignore my comment.

    Also yeah I'm kinda curious, in what way was that gaming laptop bricked?

    • @ScuffedPCs
      @ScuffedPCs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't have that much of a clue. It doesn't indicate that its receiving power, based on what I've looked up, I'm pretty sure the cpu might be bricked.

    • @InterlacedTech
      @InterlacedTech 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ScuffedPCs I think that it has more to do with the power circuit, it might be caused by a faulty IC chip but it's hard to tell without a thermal cam (or a multimeter with an avid experience with circuits). A bricked CPU would rather indicate something at POST, other than that it got to do with BIOS corruption which can be easily fixed or just a dead power circuit as I have mentioned earlier.

    I work in IT and I've done my fair share of swapping around boot drives. The issue with your NVME is likely that you need to switch boot options. Try switching from legacy to Uefi and vice-versa. It's also possible that the drive went bad when the other laptop went bad.

    Ok, I tried to lookup specs on your model model. No tech specs found. so here is the rub. the m.2 slots ( as far as I know - still learning ) is that it supports either 1) wifi cards 2) sata drives 3) nvme drives - but this is an either/or - not any choice of.

    Is it soldered 4GB RAM, or is there a slot hidden on the other side, maybe it is soldered, as there seems to be a model with 20GB, which would be a 16 plus a built in 4.
    The M.2 could be a SATA only

    • @ScuffedPCs
      @ScuffedPCs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I read somewhere that the laptop had soldered ram, unless it was referring to a slightly different model, I am pretty sure it is soldered. You are probably right about the m.2 being SATA only.

    Hello, I just so happen to be a user of a free gaming laptop with a GTX 970M that had a dead HDD! The laptop I have has a 4th gen i7 4720HQ and the drive slots selection is crazy, like you could have a 2.5" drive AND an NVME drive and an M.2 SATA SSD. For the NVME slot tho, the BIOS didn't pick up any NVME SSD I installed in that slot, however when I threw in a 256GB NVME SSD and tried installing windows on there, it somehow got picked up but it just didn't want to boot off it. So my guess is that the NVME slot on your laptop is configured like the NVME slot in my laptop where if u install a NVME drive, you can only use it as a storage device, kind of like an external SSD but it's built into the laptop. However, I've read that you COULD boot windows off it if you modify the BIOS or use clover or something. I didn't end up doing that as I didn't want to take risks and ended up installing a 500GB M.2 SATA SSD as a boot drive, along with a 512GB NVME drive to use as fast storage for video editing. If I was you, I would actually just stick with the 2.5" drive as there aren't many GOOD m.2 SATA SSDs out on the market these days but in case you're curious of what M.2 SATA SSD I use, it's FIKWOT FN203. I have yet to see the longevity of that Chinese SSD, but I've had it for a month now and it works perfectly so maybe u could give it a try? I hope this finds you well.

    • @johnpaulbacon8320
      @johnpaulbacon8320 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes M.2 can support Sata and NVME type drives. There are 3 types of M.2 slots. B-Key drives are Sata , M-Key are NVME. There is a B-Key only slot ; a M-Key only slot and a dual format slot that can be used with B-Key and M-Key drives. If the M.2 is a NVME drive the slot may only support NVME { type M-Key } so before trying to use a [ B-Key ] Sata drive confirm the slot has compability for both types of M.2's.

    Thats strange? Why does the laptop not see the m.2 ssd? Are u sure it doesnt show up in Device Manager? What about in Disk Management? U need to use Disk Management to create a partition and assing it a letter. Are u sure that m.2 works in another computer? What do u see in Disk Management, cause if its been wiped and no partitions it should at least show up as Unknown Unallocated in Disk Management if it does then right click it and create a simple volume. If it doesnt show up in Disk Management then go over to the bios and turn off EUFI and look for something about legacy support or something that says CSM. And lastly are u sure ur m.2 ssd works at least like a jump drive, do u have a usb adapter for m.2 ssd's, mount ur m.2 ssd to the usb adapter then plug it into the laptop and it should at least show up as a jump drive. Maybe ur ssd is bad. Do u have another m.2 ssd to try like maybe something older or more oem looking. And where's the video game benchmarks broh? Install some games and msi afterburner and lets see how bad it runs. Hope that helps.

      I just did a reply that would most likely explain why the M.2 wasn't shown. It's probab;y the wrong type of M.2 inserted into the slot or the format of the drive is wrong. Having an MBR formatted drive in a slot that only supports GPT or an GPT drive in a slot that only supports MBR unless the drive is dead , which is unlikely , but possible.
