Isn't that awesome technology? When the car breakes at the entry of a curve, it engages a fly wheel which will help slow the car and also gain fast spinning speed. By the time the driver accelerates at the exit of the curve, we now have an ultra fast spinning wheel that the car engages on the front axle for additional power! One of the key elements is the timing and automatic and switch from fly wheel engaged and disengaged, based on the driving phase (acceleration or breaking) and the real-time speed of the fly wheel: in acceleration, the flywheel is engaged only when its speed conversion is above the car's current speed. When breaking, the flywheel is engaged only when its speed conversion is below the car's current speed.
Boy, that didn't take long. Wish they'd made a movie of the 1924 pole position lap. You could have polished off a bag of popcorn during that somewhat slower drive.

It's actually an electric motor and battery hybrid system.
you are describing the technology audi used, porsche is using a lithium-ion battery ... still very impressive though

Lennard Hartman Sure is. It's the same sound you get in a hybrid or electric car on the road, but it's so much louder on these race hybrids.
