Update: JR pass increased 77% in price. It’s not worth it unless you’re doing a lot of cross country Shinkansen trips. If you’re doing the typical tourist itinerary and going from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka and back getting the JR pass will just be a waste of money
we’re going from Narita airport to Kanazawa for 3 nights, and then Kanazawa to Osaka for 5 nights, then going to another country, then coming back from that country and going to Tokyo for 5 nights. What kind of pass would you recommend us buying? Completely clueless here 🥲
actually, you are supposed to put both the seat reservation and the JR pass into the gate at the same time. I forgot to put the seat reservation in with the JR pass one time and the gate rejected me.
Yeah idk why people need to put the second ticket in because It wasn’t necessary. I mean, I have proof in the video lol I literally didn’t put my other ticket in

You can book further than 3 days in advance. I did this same method but more than a week in advance for hiroshima to tokyo.

@HIderrick yeah, it was a must coming into golden gai week also.
In my experience, the machines allow booking up to and including the last day the pass is valid.

Do you reserve the same way for trains that arent shinkansens?
For the normal trains on the JR lines, for reserved seats, you do something similar but have to pay an extra fee depending where you go

Did you buy your jr pass before you got to Japan or after?
You make the purchase before your trip. They will send you an exchange voucher for the actual pass when you arrive to Japan.
