  • We take a walk through Mykonos, Greece. This was a stop on our Greek Islands cruise on the Jewel of the Seas. The town and the island are both known as Mykonos.

Hi Tara, we were there 7/7. Loved Mykonos way more than Santorini (7/6). Santorini was way crowded and too hectic (our tour felt rushed and short therefore not enjoying Santorini more). We felt less rushed in Mykonos and cleaner. We opt out of the tour and it was very easy to venture out on our own in Mykonos. The shopping was also better. We felt it was a little more upscale than Santorini as the shops were more chic. The weather was also perfect! It was blue skies and breezy but not scorching. Enjoy ur trip. I think June might be even cooler than July.

Hello, could you tell me if I understood correctly. Arriving at the port, we take the boat for around $2 to go to the town of Mykonos and there we can shop, eat, walk. That's right ? Are there specific times to return, so as not to miss the boat?

We were in Mykonos 5 years ago, so the price may be higher now. You get off the ship after it is cleared by customs. The return time is posted, announced and n the daily planner. Allow yourself time to get back assuming there will be traffic and a line to get back on. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing!

We like Royal Caribbean. One of our favorite cruises was to the Greek Islands on Royal. Thanks for your comments and we hope you are a subscriber. We have some more info about cruising on our website: portmonkeys.com

That should be fun! We enjoyed walking around town and up to the windmills. There are many streets and alleys to explore. The experts say you should take a sailing trip in Mykonos. We went on the "Mykonos Beaches Sailaway" tour that we bought on the ship for $100 each. We motored around to the other side of the island to a beach. They never used the sails. You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/yGeba-gNH-4/w-d-xo.html If you take a 'sailing' tour, we hope they hoist the sails. Ours did not. We could have taken the bus to the same beach for a couple of dollars. Thanks for your comments and we hope you subscribe to our channel.

Mykonos is uniquely beautiful in those light-hearted videos.
However, the UGLY truth beneath this surface of picturesque and attractive ambience and architecture is that the whole island, once the retreat of preference for international classy celebrities (writers, composers, Nobel prize laureates, painters, opera singers, Hollywood actors) and very-old-money tycoons, is nowadays riddled with sheer lawlessness, tax evasion, drug trafficking, prostitution, money laundering and oligarchs and sheiks that brutally exploit the seasonal Greek workers of the island (waiters, hotel employees, cleaners, cooks, technicians etc) and treat everybody like trash.
The island's villages and country side are way over-built in disregard of all urban laws and limitations, while hotels, villas and restaurants charge go-go exorbitant prices (way above anyone would dare charge in a Caribbean-level island). Mykonos does NOT welcome average tourists (well off or not-so-well-off) anymore. It definitely has stopped attracting celebrities long ago.
It is typically host to ostentatious, nouveau-riche clientele, cruise-ship travelers that visit the island just for a lunch, and young people who can marginally afford to spend one or maybe two nights on the island just to brag to their friends that had been there.
Avoid it at all costs, primarily in the "tourist season" from late April to late September.
Mykonos is just another island in fast, dark, irreversible decay.
