I don’t enjoy seeing this happen to anyone. What bothers me is it seems no one wants to assume responsibility. These people purchased their homes and assumed the risk. Now they want to blame the government for a geological event and they want the government to come bail them out.
Was a soil report done PRIOR to government approval to build in Portegeese Bend, Palos Verde? What reports, geologic testing done and reviewed before permits issued.
Seaview is over and done. The land is collapsing from water intrusion into the underlying soft sandstone and clay, liquifying what is 85 feet under those houses. The residents can make a lot of noise, what they should do now is sue the developers and the city. Decades ago, civil engineers stated it was too dangerous to build on that land in Palos Verdes, but $$$ changed hands, and the developers were granted the rights to build anyway . Now that corruption have come home to roost.
Fire,pestilence,earthquakes,war,floods,riots..these ARE everybody's problems- since the beginning when Cain killed Abel. We are only getting ready for the beginning of TROUBLES. Read Revelation. The Bible... That book "scientists" claim along with most academia,is a "Fable",Myth",Fairy tales".....
I'm sorry but I'm always surprised when people act shocked by land erosion on a coast line. I live by a creek that meets the river. Erosion is a HUGE issue. We've actually lost a couple of roads thanks to erosion.
Well the people are not moving and that is up to them if they want to stay. However, Insurance Companies, City County do not have to do anything for this district. They are on their own and would need to pay out of pocket fees. As to property taxes yeah they do have to pay for that, sewer, water. What ever happens to them in the future that is up to what they want, no crying , no OMG we could have done more. NO! The next rain season will take it down and it comes.
Spent two weeks March and October there for years--such a beautiful place--no superlative spared--very sad to see this--glad my husband left this world before 'his' Wayfarer's Chapel and that view of Catalina Island.
Face it, nature has other plans for the rancho. Those hills have been slipping since before people. There's no reasonable point to do anything but leave. It's literally a waste of time and money to try to stop a natural event.🤗
Yup. That guy in this video doesn't get it or more likely is in denial about the situation. "This is a slow moving tortoise, we can catch this tortoise!" Well we're all ears dude on any bright ideas you might have to stop a mountain from sliding but the fact is those homes never should have been built on a land slide to begin with
Nope, can't stop it. It is 300' deep chuck of earth. Only way to have stopped it is cover the square miles up to the top, Rolling Hills, with one giant sheet of plastic and keep it there, forever. That was not in the cards.
It was sliding in the early `70's when I was a kid. Homeowners
were having jacks installed under their houses and were raising
them every week or so.

A few days ago an earthquake occurred off PV coast. Will these and other signs continue to be ignored? Living on a slide has consequences.

Rich people problems😅😅😅
Most of the earlier developers... have already gone from this veil... The 1950s were a long time ago in peoples' timelines. The newer homes perhaps...

No bailouts.
The people who purchased the homes new about the slide when they moved in🎉
KNEW not new you dingbat 😮
The funny thing is the insurance company doesn't cover SLIDES. Tough.
It was certainly a beautiful location... Good times, good times.

Mayor can arrange a volume discount on moving vans.

ha there goes property value
what do they think can be done ? put up some concrete blocks or something and make the sliding stop. It's not going to be stopped..
Build on unstable ground. No really, go ahead, nothing bad could possibly happen.
Maybe you could move your house to a cliff?
When it goes its gonna happen so quick all this bickering wont matter.
Wish I was rich enough to live on a fault line and hill side.
LOL
The future is ever house has its own power plant. No more wires and telephone poles everywhere.
Energy companies surpress tech.
Will every house have it's own floating foundation, unattached to any ground, too?
I'd be looking for a moving truck. They've known for years. Not worth the constant worry living there.
Millionaire homeowners: “taxpayers are responsible for our comfort!”
