M7 broke new ground in perfumery & paid dearly for doing so with poor sales & now, decades later, it is exacting its revenge by making us pay dearly for IT!
People weren’t really ready for oud, even if it was a very VERY palatable, unskanky, non-barnyardy, non-beast mode derivation of it. Oh, don’t get me wrong, M7 had its fanatics, but they were not the masses that the financially troubled YSL were waiting for, they were a very small contingent of the marketplace. Gee, I wish there was a word I could use to describe this…
It is mysterious & beautiful. The mystery being in its seemingly simple composition and the beauty is the void my mind fills in with a narrative; and I don't think I'm alone.
If you smell this today and it’s your first time smelling M7, and you know your way around fragrances, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that ‘there’s hardly any oud in here’ ‘where is my powerhouse of skank?’ ‘where is the rose?’
Anyway, should you seek this out and buy it? Hell no, this one was easy to decide. It’s a hell no from me, the prices for this are not justified, because what you’re going to get if you do buy it is a beginners oud and a beginners oud should come with a beginners price tag. If you want real oud, you can get that from pretty much any high end niche house these days, actually it’s hard to avoid oud now, still!
But don’t get me wrong!
M7 is an absolute marvel, it wasn’t of its time when it was released and it still isn’t of its time now.
That’s what I think anyway, and I don’t think i’m alone.
I’m also not going to delve any further into that statement because I want to keep it ‘beautiful and mysterious’.
The beauty being how poignant that statement is & the mystery being the void created by its vagueness, which shall no doubt be filled by your mind, with a narrative of your very own

Dude I love M7 and M7 Oud Absolu... I have both of them and they are different but give off the same vibe... Oud Absolu is more like a flanker to the original M7 in my eyes... Great stuff... Oh and I don't think it's discontinued... It's just don't think it's available outside of Europe... Whenever something is a European exclusive and I am whiling to pay retail for something I normal go to Sweetcare and pick up the fragrance as they will ship overseas... They are located in Portugal and an authorized distributor not a grey market discounter... I just checked and they have M7 listed but it's not in stock right now... The price is around $75 American for a bottle but you will have to pay shipping too... Personally for that price I feel it's worth it... Awesome job as always... ^_^

I bought my first bottle of M7 when it came out, and roughly around the same time, Balenciaga Pour Homme. I knew I had something something special in both. Surely my nose had to transition from the various potions I had been wearing prior, but it happened. It was nice to leave the planet and smell a different world:)

Excellent video and summation. i own the fourth variety reformulation and enjoy it. Howerver now that you can get boss bbottled oud with more punch them M7 the price is atrocious.

Have you tried YSL Pour Homme? It's magical, and the Concentrate is special effects in a bottle.
Ah man, I miss M7, the original bottle. At that time, I thought it was so unusual and unique. I loved that bottle too. I can only imagine what it is going for on ebay. The memory of M7 is good enough for me though...and homie, I know it's your channel, but Live Jazz is a flanker of Jazz. Thanks for another trip down scented memory lane.

I love this one. I believe you missed the 6th fragrance. Body Kouros. I believe that they didn't count Eau Libre as a masculine fragrance. Nonetheless, great review!

I fell hard for the original M7 about u years ago. Bought the original all red bottle, the 2nd three sided version and the vintage after shave splash. Also have two bottles of the M7 Fresh.Thing is I live in a warm climate so I really don't have that opportunity to wear it. But for historical purposes, I collect and am glad I have it. I may will it to my nephew when he gets older. Lol.

I honestly think M7 is such a beautiful scent, it’s like a homage to classic masculinity. Not that Denim, Hai Karate Dirty Harry sneering machismo; no M7 is a classy guy…actually it’s like Indiana Jones at the start of Temple of Doom, all that whip crack action wrapped up in a monkey suit. I honestly think it’s such a shame that I gave up my bottle of it for some twatty fresh clubbing bullshittery that I don’t even remember the name of now.
