    I switched from the original G9 to the new m2.Much better in almost every aspect. Love the results and the color profile. Beautiful b&w options. Well recommended.

    5:30 for that I think the issues is (if my S5ii is any indication) that there is some noise and detail lost compared to the non-phase sensors since they have to mask out the PDAF pixels. The S5ii is definitely not as detailed and a little smudgy compared to the S5 or GH6

    The battery life is surprising. Most tests show that the G9II has much better battery life than the GH6. Can you do a more controlled test?

      Yes I plan to!

      I use the kondor blue dummy battery plugged into a core SWX Ptap, and it runs literally forever for the GH6. I record a lot of plays and dance recitals and sometimes they go a bit long and I’m always worried if it’s over an hour and a half if the GH six would last on the battery but I heard reports that the G92 has better battery life which could be due to not having a fan to power. But in your Franken rig, you should easily be able to add the dummy battery adapter to power it all day.

    • @_tographer
      @_tographer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I stopped using dummy batteries because they changed the battery door design on the GH6 to the porthole, now that the notch is back on the G9II my dummy adapters would work and I could go back to that style. However, if the cable ever gets unplugged, it’s a critical power failure and the camera won’t be able to save the clip and it’ll be corrupted and then I’ll have to repair it afterwards. That’s the downside of those dummy batteries, it exposes you to potential power issues. The USB charging method ensures a safer power redundancy.

    9:00 I think the stabe on the g9ii has been overhyped. I was expecting it to be really smooth compared to the gh6 but even in high mode it feels like I’m shooting on the gh6. If I try walking it’s still shaky as heck and feels like e stabe sometimes gets it stuck so there jerks in the footage. I’m using Olympus lenses but supposedly the new g9ii doesn’t rely on lens stabe anymore for added benefits, it’s supposed to be all in camera now and I’m not seeing the major difference.

    • @_tographer
      @_tographer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I haven’t noticed any major difference so far, seems like what I’m used to with the GH6

    7:38 confused about the base iso thing between gh6 and g9ii. In vlog on the gh6 with DRB on, the base is 2000. On the g9ii it’s 500 so in my opinion that makes DRB easier to manage on the g9ii over the gh6. Do you typically not use DRB on the gh6? ISO 2000 sucks but with a proper vnd the highlight info is definitely obvious between DRB on or off. On the gh6 I only shoot with DRB on and just live with a vnd on the lens even indoors sometimes

    • @_tographer
      @_tographer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      With DNB on the GH6, the noise at ISO 2000 is too much for my taste so I only use it if I absolutely NEED to which is very rare. I’m mostly shooting ISO 250 on the GH6 and I find that I like the cleaner image even if it’s “less” dynamic range. Lowest ISO on G9II in VLOG is 500 so just takes some getting used to the difference.

    • @ChrisFlores22
      @ChrisFlores22 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@_tographer I’ve found the gh6 footage to be color noise heavy with drb on and iso 2000. Did you find the same?

    10:11 if you are tempted to get full frame look and thinking about switching platforms, I recommend getting a speedbooster. I use the MB XL with FF sigma ef lenses and the look is amazing. Literally hard to tell the difference between FF. I’ve compared my gh6 with SB next to my s1h and it’s hard to the see the difference. Where FF does have an advantage in my opinion is dynamic range. FF holds up better to highlight info which makes sense since the s1h is rated at 14+ stops vs the 13+ of the gh6. But a speedbooster gh6 is still the only vlog camera that offers up to 4k 120p without a crop. Also when shooting in raw, none of the FF bodies offer open gate raw, the gh6 & g9ii do lol so put a speedbooster on that bad boy and you’ve got an open gate raw camera that records vlog with no crops compared to everything else lumix. With fast primes the low light performance difference is not as big and you’d think. For me, m43 is not dead, it’s slept on and that’s fine. While everyone else is shooting sharp Sony or crippled canon cameras, our footage just stands out!

    • @_tographer
      @_tographer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! I like the speed booster solution but haven’t used one in ages ever since I got the Leica 10-25mm f1.7 - probably my absolute favorite lens.

      @@_tographer man I was soooo tempted to get that lens! Since I mainly shoot on the s1h & Eva I couldn’t justify that expensive lens but it’s still tempting! I decided to keep my g9ii as a dedicated hybrid with oly 17 1.2-12-40 2.8 & oly 40-150 2.8. Killer setup for my needs.

    11:00 my main problem with G9ii is overheating... Okay I live in a hot country but even on manual focus G9ii would overeat after 30 to 45 minutes recording, I'm yet to find recording setting where the camera could keep running for like an hour and half.. I hope this can be fixed with a software update.
    Interesting how you put the Insta360 attached to the cage. What is the idea behind it?

    I used the G9m2 intensively on a trip abroad for 3 weeks,ending with 3500 images including some video clips. I didn't need more than 1.5 batteries a day.Changing a batery takes 30 seconds max. I don't think that this is a problem, and the battery life seems sufficient .
    I'm very pleased with the camera and the image quality

    Great video. I use a GH6 and manual focus almost all the time for videos, so I'm not really motivated about the G9II.
    The GH6 feels more like a tank than the G9II to me and the handling is more rounded. It seats easily in my palms. And that tilty flippy screen thing is so useful for me!
    Would have loved the adaptability with other camera model accessories, the way the G9II adapts with the S5II series accessories. The GH6 stands alone in the series.
    I'd stick with my GH6 until smthn significantly better is released.
    I still use a GH4 as a secondary camera.

    Could you put a number on how long the battery lasts? I’ve heard it’s actually better than the GH6 for battery life but I could be thinking of the S5ii or something

    • @_tographer
      @_tographer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hard to say unscientifically, it FEELS like it drains 25% faster plus I’m not feeling any gains from the USB charger even though that trickle charging seemed to work well on the GH6 and GH5II

      I’ve shot with the g9ii & gh6 and definitely the g9ii has a better battery life. Idk if the fan of the gh6 takes up more power but the g9ii outlasts the gh6.

    LUMIX needs to release a set of 1.2 Nocticrons. 12, 18, 25, to join the 42.5. I think 2024/25 will be big for LUMIX. They have all the ingredients. They just have to execute well on the next bodies

    Thanks for the review of the G9 II. I hope you won't hate me for saying this, but I think your videos would be better without the whip zooms. They seem to be overused (much like people holding a Lav mic in front of their mouth.)

    The G9II also has lower 5,7K quality than the GH6, details look rougher when cropping. But even the GH6 in 4K has slightly lower details than the GH5, the moiré is better controlled but fine details are slightly worse. However, 5,7K on the GH6 is great, especially in Pro-res. My S5II also has some reduced details compared to my S1 and S5. I like the new AF and IBIS a lot, but I prefer the details of the "old" Panasonic cameras.
