Mark Larkham was an owner driver back in the 90's / 2000's, then when he retired from full time driving he was a team owner for a few years before selling his team and becoming an Expert commentator for the sport with Channel 7, Channel Ten ( when this video was made ) to now with Fox Sports, Larko is the perfect person for this role because of his Engineering/Driver/Team Owner past and with all of these things in his back pocket he can explain the details of a track and how to drive it or the car and all of it's parts and how they work in a way that Anyone can understand
And that's why We All Love Larko
+ if you have watched the sport for a while he has really good humor as well

It's a public road that you can drive, at the speed limit of cause. The elevation from the bottom to the top of the circut is huge, at the top of the mountain on the way down you can't see the track through the corners, it's aim and point then in the dipper the front wheel is off the ground. It's an amazing track.

Even doing the speed limit of 60 across skyline is more than quick enough for me.

Mr Mark Larkham (aka Larko) is VERY well respected within the Australian motorsport community, both those in racing, and the fans of racing, to the point that when the host broadcast announced they had dropped his segments from race coverage while they were making budget cuts, the outcry from the Fans and legends of the sport had him reinstated very very quickly. The broadcast faced backlash not only from the fans, but from the companies that support the racing, was enormous.

What Mark Larkham has just explained, is how to get around a lap of the Mount Panorama circuit; to complete this 1000 km race, you have to do 161 laps of the circuit. That means, you have repeat everything you do -- -- 161 times; that's why they use two drivers for each car, most other races in the Repco Supercars Championship Series are only 500 km.

I live about an hour's drive away from this track. Whenever I head over to Bathurst, I always do a lap of the circuit. When it's not a race day, it's a two-way public road. However, it is strictly speed-limited, as such. The most unnerving thing you can do is. drive around it in the opposite direction to the normal race event, It is a very steep climb to the top.

Great reaction. Lovely response to one of, if not THE, greatest races in existence. I'm from Belgium, been going to Francorchamps several times a year every year and I think that, besides the Nordschleife at the Nûrburgring, Francorchamps is the best track in the world. And, to contradict myself, there's nothing like Bathurst. Nothing. Forget Le Mans, forget the Indy 500 and forget Spa. Bathurst is where the real stuff is going down. Nothing like it and I'm glued to my computer screen every year to watch the race. Except, this year I bloody forgot all about it thanks to SpaceX having their fifth StarShip launch with a booster catch involved. Damn. But hey, thanks to TH-cam I will be able to relive the moment. Thanks for the vid, lass. Warm greetings from Belgium.

Come on down. It's a public road when they're not racing.
I made a detour through Bathurst years ago and took the opportunity. Do not try for 300ks though! It's a 60km limit and several bits are scary enough at that speed. No way I would ever want to do it at racing speed. You really don't see how steep it is until you're there, either. That was quite a shock, even after hearing the commentators say it over and over when I'd watched the race. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of motor racing it was a hell of a thrill.

    2 things:
    1. The elevation changes
    2. The blind corners going up and down the mountain
Inline NASCAR there's no spotters in your ear. Just the chief engineer (or similar) - similar to F1.
2 drivers (2nd driver must do 1/3rd of the laps minimum). 6 pit stops minimum including 1 brake rotor change, some teams might do 2. BTW all the crashes in this video yet only 1 in today's race. Just a single safety car.

It was run today. My family comes from Bathurst, i've driven the track but normally its a public road (with drains) speed limit 60km/hr and speed cameras for wannabees. In real life the hills are much steeper than in Latham's video. You seem to like your motor sport and you talk a bit like a sim racer. GT7 is a fair representation of the track without the G-forces with about the same lap times in a GT3. You should get yourself a good wheel and cockpit, and very good pedals and give the track a crack if you feel that way, there are other women in Britain doing the same and live streaming it. Live large and enjoy.
