    A tremendous performance, only Stigers has the voice to carry this off. The Blue Nile, well no-one has come close to their work. Scotlands finest by a decent margin.

    Talent. Love the respect Curtis has for the original and song writer.

    I’ve never even had a deep love let alone a lost one. At 52 it’s not looking likely. At least there is beauty like this to fill my empty heart. I bought The Blue Nile’s first album when it came out. I’m unlucky in love but lucky to be so filled by great music and art.

    I know this song so well from Blue Nile, this cover is emotionally beautiful; the same haunting love fading..lingering, etching inwards till the last drop clings to a quiet tear…

    I have been listening to The Blue Nile since 1991. I have never liked a cover of their songs, till now. The emotion of the lyrics is there. The 'sadness' of the music is there. Terrific job.

    So glad a jazz outfit picked this up, I always thought an acoustic bass and a nice trap kit would have served the original album better. Great vocal work.

    Mel C. and Andrea Corr take note; this is how you cover a Blue Nile song.

    • @jaolin6042
      @jaolin6042 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, I've got a soft spot for Mel C's cover (and for Mel C overall). And one thing is actually better in her version: when she sings "soul boy", it can be interpreted as "soul boy" or "soul, boy", which I think adds a nice, new dimension. (This has, of course, simply to do with the fact that it is a female singer, but she does an ok, poppy job with the song, and I think it feels quite personal.) AC's "Tinseltown" feels quite generic, I believe, but at the same time: anyone who covers TBN gets a star in my book.

    This is great, but is it really about the end of the relationship? It's weary alright, but isn't there hope here as well? Not sure... either way, it's stunning. I bet Tom Waits could have his wicked way with this song too.
