Mohammad bin Salman was designated as Saudi Arabia's new crown prince in June 2017. Since then, he has rapidly consolidated power and led Saudi Arabia towards some progressive reforms, such as granting women the right to drive. He also has plans to privatize certain segments of the economy, with the goal of reducing Saudi Arabia's economic dependency on oil. These changes, along with a suppression of Saudi Arabia's religious Right, could potentially begin to destabilize one of the Middle East's most powerful nations.

I just dont get why they’re painting his reforms and industry changes as a bad thing. The changes he’s making are NECESSARY changes. When oil prices globally are tanking and your economy relies almost entirely on one commodity then your country lives and dies with it. The changes will slow the economy from the start but by diversifying, the economy is safe in the long run. It’s the same reason why Ontario in Canada is shifting from manufacturing which once held up its entire economy, to the knowledge sector as manufacturing has tanked in Canada.

bin nayef was not forced or made to give up his position as the strongest man in the kingdom ( after the king ) as a interior minister .. he was just filling in for his late father prince nayef (he cracked down on al qaeda and destroyed them in KSA ) and he is not a very public figure ( although very popular among the people ) and did not like to be under the lights .. so as he hits 57 he wants to retire as soon as there is a suitable person to fill in ( in fact his nephew now is the new IM ) and also as a crown prince he was needed to be always on the spotlight ( which he didn't like ) so he stepped down from the position to his cousin the king's son and deputy crown prince ( being the most suitable choice ) who which was also the minister of defence and the head of ruling family private council .. so no game of thrones type of thing is happening over there
as for his purchases .. as they say "reported" is NOT confirmed or Announced so we can't always believe such " reports ".
and as for these guys being held at a hotel .. any one who is caught is NOT guilty until proven otherwise so they were in house arrest until the investigations are done
P.S some of them were released and some still will be released at the end of january or later in february
Mosab Omar as a saudi who doesn’t live in saudi anymore I appreciate you my dude
TO PUT IT SIMPLY
the kingship goes directly not to the oldest but to the fittest of the Founders ( ibn Saud ) Sons from Arabian tribal mothers in the first ruling generation, knowing that all the kings before had a older brother and did not request to be king preferring a status of prince with all the money and time in the world to enjoy it .. you have to understand that being a king is not fun at all you have a responsibility far heavier than any other as king of arabia ( leading virtually over 1.5 bn muslims )
usually the king is chosen ( the fittest to rule ) by the current king after taking lead from the previous one and endorses a crown prince from his brothers and half brothers ( fitting the criteria ) to the senior heads of family Council then every one cast a vote either yes or no if not agreed upon a crown prince they vote on others to be CP .. and so on
coming to Generation 2 ( grandsons of ibn Saud ) they must be a decedent for the founder and a son of a previous king or fit for the position , if the current king of the choses to transfer the ruling to this generation with the (senior heads of family Council approval) than he must endorse a son of his or a son of a brother or a grand son if he sees him fit .. then the voting upon then must be held and so on .
its really simple its an internal family endorsement / voting system called ( البيعة )
hey .. i really owe a lot to this land ... A LOT
Still, SA is a shithole still, but perhaps it's getting less shittier than before.

To every western viewer,
Hi, I appreciate your interest in Saudi Arabia. One thing you should realize before scrolling down in the comments is that there are many paid missionaries that their only job is to create multiple accounts to support and polish the picture of the government, or as you like to call it propaganda. It's a well-known fact that no one would talk about, and if you asked a Saudi guy he would reject it, even though he knows it. Acknowledging it is really dangerous, it is a taboo. Not to forget that on the other hand, there are paid missionaries that are hired to destroy the picture too, like an anti-propaganda. One thing to keep in mind, 90% of the Saudis do support the government, even if they disagreed here and there, we support them for the greater good, because we believe they are what help us stand. Yes, nothing is perfect, but improvement is always welcomed.
So is this your actual opinion or are you paid to write this comment??? hmmmmm

Iranian here! I don't know what's wrong with liberals in the US. they critic Saudis 24/7 and when they try to modernize you guys bash them even harder. that's the same thing that Carter did to Iran back in 79. Middle east is a region which never has experienced what you had in Europe, people here are mostly religious and that's why whenever you give democracy to them they will instantly choose a religious party or candidate like in Egypt. you have to first educate people culturally then give them a full freedom, otherwise they will choose a radical leader which would produce even more radicalized population,
Iranians nowadays are more secular than neighbour countries and that's only true thanks to late Shah.
if the Saudis prince comes out a winner, he will be remembered like what Turk nationals see Ataturk but I doubt that's gonna happen since the average saudi is very religious compared to Iranians or Turks.
So true, they just cant understand that democracy cannot coexist with religious extremist! The Saudi police arrested Salman Al-Oduh a cleric that is as dangerous as the Ayotallah, and now HRW is demanding his release! These westerns just dont learn from their own stupid mistakes.
"Educate people culturally," lol.
Alexander Jones what do you know lol
somebody wow an Iranian being an biased about Saudi Arabia. That's a first.
Saudi here, I appreciate your comment, just wanted to mention that most Saudis are not religious. They follow Islam and they are passionate about Islam but not so many of them are religious or extremists. Religious figures however have more power over influence; they can influence mass people in no time; this is why I agree with you that democracy cannot work in Saudi Arabia.
I live in Bahrain, literally Saudi’s little itty bitty neighbor, and we hear a lot about our huge neighbor. A lot of people are really pumped about the changes, but I think the video stated it perfectly - that these changes could really create an imbalance due to the fact that all of these implementations are coming down very swiftly. Really cool vid!

Maniesh Ramanayake that was very well said
Honestly he isn't worse than Fidel Castro and look at what people are willing to overlook with that guy
Fidel Castro did good things, like healthcare and education, but he also took away a lot of political freedoms, like freedom of speech and information. There were no democratic rights whatsoever. Homosexuality was criminalized. There's also mass surveillance and arbitrary detention. Don't get me wrong, there are worse countries, many of which the USA deals with, but the idea that it's some leftist paradise is absurd, and the idea that the US is worse off kind of lacks perspective. Yeah, things are bad, but the fact that you can even type that out in a youtube comment puts you a whole leg up from cuba in terms of political freedom

riri r you idiot one of his friend Prince bought it the painting otherwise that guy can't afford it so clearly mgs bought it
Nice Respact Big brother 👌
I don't wanna sound like a hater but its facts that a man with pretty much no contribution to society is being appreciated this much makes me really want to believe that this earthly life is pretty much luck based
He did a LOT to his society, and he is about to do big changes to the Middle East 😚
@Sasen oh really? I have proof That’s he done a lot of good things! That’s why i wrote that comment 😅 what is your proof of what you just wrote?
Disclaimer**
I'm in no way attacking nor defending however I must point out some clear biases and unforgivable inaccuracies in this here report.
I understand that Vox is run by Vox media a known (liberal) left media source. Despite it being praised for its mostly factual reporting, I cannot help but feel the bias not only in the report but in said praise.
I also understand that the audience targeted are mainly U.S. citizens however as any internet user would tell you "the world is a living room now" and the people whom the subject matter is about will find such content and can as surly and accurately confirm or deny any information in it and if any bias or misinformation is found and confirmed to "your" audience that will undoubtedly affect your credibility.
That being said here is my humble editorial as a citizen of the middle east:
0:26 stating that the crown prince is "being forced" is a baseless claim that is simply inferred from the political climate
0:32 why is age being put to question here?
0:48 as the comment section below would testify, he is NOT known in Saudi Arabia as "Mr. everything"
2:16 using an image of an armed police man when referring to the "religious police" is misleading because the religious police are never armed and their official attire is informal (the arab thoub)
2:38 "the vast religious establishment"
**a lot to unpack here**
1- using a derogatory slur (wahhabi): a derogatory term aimed at conservative Islamic clerics coined by those who follow the shia sect an often antagonist to the conservatives.
2- clumping images of religious Saudi Islamic clerics with opposing views under a caption that misrepresents both their political and religious views
2:51 "enforce their uncompromising puritanical version of Islam". The one in the middle of the image is Dr. Salman Al-Odah known for his liberal Islamic views and opposing political views for which he was arrested and jailed most recently in September of 2017
and finally, calling the crown prince "MBS", as convenient as that may be, it kinda comes off dismissive and disrespectful.
Thank you for reading
What a great response! Saudi here, way to go pointing out Vox's bias and pursuit of a narrative.
Vox isn't leftist, they're Liberal.
AdventureInc not sure if you're trolling or genuine nevertheless,
by social definition the right are generally referred to as conservative and the left are referred to as liberals. There is a spectrum however in between and beyond all that, feel free to research it. Cheers!
MH S Leftist don't support capitalism, Liberals do.
AdventureInc you're absolutely right that is what I implied by "spectrum". However the point still stands it's a "general" description albeit not accurate. Thank you though for making me actually go and re-read some stuff!
Lol even Saudi Arabia has free healthcare
Even SA? lol.....SA is one of the richest countries in the world....it offers much more to it's citizens besides free health care
How's that working out for Saudi citizens? They're completely dependent on the government to provide for everything. They have no idea how to create wealth.
South Africa?
Muhammad Tayyab why do working class people always suffer from poverty then?
South Africa?
newcastle lets go
Thx I’m from Saudi
Stop lying Vox, no one calls him Mr. Everything!
Chill. He is not lying he heard it from other people. i'm saudi arabian and i'm not that offended
Lier
Saudi arabian Love him
@@banuhaashim9539 you must be one of his superfan
indeed
Atleast Vox calls him Mr. Everything
As a saudi; I totally support his plans for the future.
Any transformation comes in with 3 steps (Daniela then resistance then acceptance) & with an over 70% population bellow the age of 30 years old I'm confidant to say he got the buy in from the majority if not all.
He is planning for the future & this is well respected by us.
May God bless him.
samir sonbul
You actually think that the house of saud is blessed?, poor child.
samir sonbul what your saying is true but the drop of oil prices and the reliance on it will and has effected many people and we migh not have as much as we do know in the future
Rand alKhonaizi this proves what Samir has been saying.
Without these reforms, saudi economy would fall in less than 5 years.
It might be hard in the beginning of these changes, but it’s the only way to have a stable better brighter future
His plans suit ambitious Saudis and would benefit everyone. No one would resist the chance to participate in developing stronger economy.
Cheater of Muslims. The wicked
he is kng of saudi not palestine

صدقوني نحن السعوديين مبسوطين من غباكم وغباء مذيعيكم واعلامكم
This is the first time I've heard of this "Mr. Everything" and I'm a Saudi.
- if you had your facts checked you'd know that the painting was bought by The Louvre Abu Dhabi! As for the house i don't know, but if he did buy it why would it be a strange thing since he's filthy rich. Calling what's he's doing a power grab is nonsense since he's the crown Prince and next in line to be king, what more power do you need?!
So how are things i Dubai anyway do you guys also have strict immigration policies and struggling job markets or is it better.
Bandar ツ who is his Father!
please dont rely on this channel to actually put out informative videos it turns out both things he apperently bought arent even correct
osama almousallam king salman
Bandar ツ I'm starting to think that you're not a Saudi. How tf would u now know him he's basically a bigger deal than the king himself.
I've watched this video thousands of time, idk why youtube still give me this recomendation....

A man of power and grace, commitment and intelligence.
The most knowledgeable and powerful person in the universe none other than our beloved and highly respected Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
You really mean the world to me, your highness.

Hi
Who’s calling him Mr. everything .. I’m Saudi and never heard of this .. 😂 to the guy who made this video or who ever did thanks for the effort but most of what you said is made up and full of flowers 😂
the painting was bought by a museum in UAE
Mister Good I love him and I love you too 😍I’m sure there are things in your country that needs your close attention and intelligence don’t bother yourself with other countries problems ..peace and love ❤️
Mister Good Israel has the right to exist, and he said the right thing.
Also, I've lived in Saudi Arabia until last year and I've never heard anyone call him that too xD
Mister Good religion is a plague to society, especially Islam Judaism and Christianity... Even Hinduism and Buddhism
lma0 _ stfu annoying atheist
Saudi Arabia is one of richest country in the world
and weirdest too
الله يعز محمد بن سلمان ♥️
But yet they won't take in Syrian refugees
Blue Gh In fact, they reached 3 million inside Saudi Arabia and 3.5 million in Saudi refugee camps on the borders of Jordan and Saudi Arabia
It’s not that they don’t take them in. Europe has far more chances to have a good life, that’s why it’s so hard to get in
As a nationalist i don’t want them here. If i see one in the streets I’ll spit on them as most people do. They say that the evil disappears from the country like that.
They actually do.
Tahlequah standing bear dude we have more than 2 million refugees with free education and free health insurance. We cannot take ALL the refugees, besides many of them just like europe and wants to use this chance to live there.
Americans criticizing another countries corrupt leaders? How ironic.
Simo Yabai Actually, this may come as a shocker but for how corrupt America is it’s actually one of the least corrupt governments on Earth. There’s far more corrupt government, especially in less developed countries.
they also do criticize their corrupt leader , a lot actually . they are a political channel stating their views what's ironic about that
This video seems pretty balanced to me. Where do you see the problem?
Daniel 786 Corruption in most foreign countries only affects their people and citizens,Corruption In a country that is considered a world leader and a world power will not only affect the people of it but other countries as well as how they will view us which will determine how trusted US intelligence collects from other countries and vice versa with that being said, here’s a few
-Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort found guilty of making false statements and conspiracy to laundry money
-Foreign policy advisor Goerge Papadopoulos pled guilty to false statements with FBI on contacting the Russians
-Dr.William Bradford resigned from US department of Energy amid reports he had made racial slurs directed at President Obama.
And the list goes on ..The worst disease in the world today is corruption,And there is a cure:Transparency.
Boludos sobran.
0:54 folks were nearly going to have a french kiss
In Saudi Arabia we don’t know him as mr everything but we do know about mr clean
