- Upon popular request, we have deconstructed a Solovair boot. It's one of the better made leather boots compared to the ones we've reviewed so far.

Tanner, when cutting shoes apart please also mention the construction type. Docs are vulcanised, which means they can't be resoled because they use a very strong adhesive to join the upper and the outsole. Solovairs are goodyear welted, which means the use a welt, stitched into a gemming inside the boot, to stithe the outsole on the welt in another part. This means you can take the outsole off and put another on without damaging the uppers. Also, the leather piece you saw on the inside is called the inner counter cover, and is used to stop your heels from rubbing into the stitches. Rose Anvil has a channel where he cuts apart many boots and shoes you whats on the inside. You could also check it out
Yeah... there is a lot more to boots than a leather bag (or waller, belt etc). Lasting, welt, the sole etc. Most of that can be reduced to components and labor once you know the costs... but I think there is so much going on in boots that is unique to them
Dr. Martens uses a "hot knife" which melts the sole onto the shoe. However, when you take apart a pair of Dr. Martens, there is a gemming. You can remove the Dr. Martens welt, and stitch on a new welt, stitch on a midsole, then add a lug sole.
This statement is false. Docs and Solovairs are built the same way. They have a PVC welt attached with a goodyear machine and a PVC outsole, melted to the welt. Neither is vulcanized.
going from a calming rose anvil video to this is fucking nuts ahaha i love the chaos in ripping this boot to pieces, keep it up!
Awesome to see a leather boot review along with the handbags. Please do boots from Thursday Boot Company and a bag from Portland Leather Goods! Thank you 🙏
Growing up in the 90s, I had always wanted a doc martens pair. Now in my mid30s, I bought my very first pair recently. I wish I could’ve watched this before I bought one. Its sad I just had learned that its not made like it was before. Tbh I dont know solovair but after knowing, I could’ve bought solovair. I live in japan so many thats one reason I have not heard solovair. Thank you for this review! Taking notes for buying one in the future!
In 2020 in college, my friend was stressed that she had spent a lot of money on a pair of Doc Martens boots
We pointed out that they are supposed to be good quality, so she has probably made a good investment as long as she wears them and doesn't buy more shoes she doesn't need
Then a few months later I learned that Doc Martens is not a high quality brand anymore!
It sucks how these brands which were known for high quality have recently been dropping their quality a lot, but not their prices. So consumers still think they are paying for high quality items, but in reality we are being scammed!
The Doc Martens you know from the 90s. are actually made by Solovair.
Love this review. Thursday boot company sneaker please!
Thursday and or Red Wings!
I really enjoy these. bought one of your wallets last week
I have a pair in patent leather, they are a bit more sensitive, but sooo easy to clean. Probably will go with this finish next time, but definitely repurchasing again
I just purchased my first pair of Doc Martens and absolutely love them. I really can’t wait to own my first pair of Solovair Boots.
I agree their waxed leathers are good, slightly thicker and water resistant! Their acorn monkey boot from their Solovair Lifestyle Collection is really good, calf leather and leather lined inside and out - better than your boot here. Also, the urban hiker in greasy leather is a bit of a gem I think
I think next one need to be red wings. I have been wearing their boots since 2015. They so comfortable and waterpoof. I wear them winter fall and spring and sometimes even on summer. No sweat at all.
Bought my first pair a week ago, I’m very happy with them, going to get a second pair this week.
i'm little bit confused abt the sizing, do you have any suggestions?
You didn’t mention one of the most important items - it has a wooden shank. The Doc Martens have none which affects comfort when wearing the shoes over a long period.
can anyone actually cite any evidence that a wooden shank helps with comfort? unless you were mountaineering, which you wouldn't be wearing such boots if you want to do it properly as you'd get mountaineering boots. or, if you were working in a manual labour job where you need steel shanks, not wooden - there are inconclusive scientific results to show anything about a wooden or even plastic shank helping that. there is a lot of debate on plastic shanks perhaps helping with running, but that's still inconclusive and the material is more favourable as it's flexible rather than wooden.
there are tons of journalist/corporate articles claiming that wooden shanks are better with absolutely no scientific sources, but that's it. there's a poorly written/short wikipedia article where they've not cited any study to support that claim.
I suspect that for the purpose of these boots, a wooden shank offers very little difference except anecdotal experiences. obviously, the consumer is not going to know all this background as it's hard unless you work in a niche environment/know someone who works with issues like that. I think they're just as overpriced as Doc Martens, £180 is marked up no matter what different PR techniques they use to convince people it's not. I'm sure they're still good boots, but it is a big brand for boots at the end of the day and likely pays a lot for marketing them.
@@oight look up Rose Anvil, i feel he's a bit more thorough with his reviews.
@@oight ya can't make shoes for less in Britain c'mon
I cite the evidence of my own feet, @oight . I find the shank in the solovair boots greatly improves the rigidity of the boots, especially as they age. 🤷♂️
Enjoyed the take down on the solovair gaucho leather boots. Thank you.
I have this pair and they are great.
I would love for you to do the same boots in high shine smooth leather, which seems very popular and see what you think of them ?
Thank you. 👍
Are they durable? Is this leather better than the hi shine finish?
hey man loving the content, can you make more shoe/boots reviews? this one was helpful
thank you for this review! I love Cambridge Satchel Company if you can get to them
Pleaaaase do Red Wing boots next!
Yes please!
There are other people who have done Red Wing boots
@@unachimba9but I want his opinion
I owned a pair of Solovair made Doc Martens from 1985 until 2005 when they were stolen, they were brilliant, resoled once, never let e down. In 2014 I bought a new pair of Docs expecting the same. They lasted 12 months before the sole split.
Dont buy the gloss version of the Solovair, its PU coated. Buy the 'greasy' ones
Why greasy ones are better than gloss ?
Please do the Redback Boots made in Australia
Great videos. What do you think about deer leather for shoes?
I have 3 pairs of doc martins but I’ve been wanting solavair boots since I found out that they weren’t made by the same people anymore. While I love my docs I’ve heard the quality of solavair boots are much better
Ive got a pair of Doc Martin my Dad Baught in the early 90s made by them. They are still pretty much perfect. The leather has aged amazingly. Had to get a cobbler to replace the sole but thats to be expected. More moderns Docs i got for myself where falling apart and looking tired within a few years. The Quality is still as good these days at Solivair as they still use the same molds and cutters as they did then in the same factory.
I seriously doubt they are much better, I think £180 is still a mental marked up price and there's nothing really to show they're better except some marketing gimmicks. They're probably just around the same quality. Both are overpriced.
@@oight unfortunately a good majority leather boots/shoes are around that price new. I know solavair is better due to the fact that he bridge or whatever in the sole is sturdier and many people say they have held up better than their recently bough doc martins.
@@oight In France Solovairs are between 99€-110€ where Docs are 199€.
The solovairs are way better quality. I had 3 pairs of docs, then I got a pair of Solovair and 2 pairs of gripfast steel toe, which are made at the same place. Love them. No more docs for me 😂
I'm gonna have to buy some of the Brogue Boots that Solovair makes.
Please do a review on Steel boots from Slovakia..been wearing it for almost 6 months now..tbh its built quality is on par or exceed some of the most famous boots maker. And the price is wayyy much cheaper..
Steel boots are literally the cheapest boots 15 years old kids wear who just found out about metal
@@jarlbalgruufthegreater1758 who cares if its popularized by 15 yrs old metal kids..the main point here is the built quality, the leather being used and the overall durability.
Did you dissect dr martens before? Can’t seem to find the video
Dont people always say old docs are better than new one? So its should be a given the company who previously made docs would have a better quality boot.
Thus is what those people talking about. Same manufacturer NPS
I wish that when people talked about solovair they didn't bring up Doc Martens. I don't give AF about DM. I just wanna know how Solovair are in a bubble.
Anyone got any advice for using custom orthotic insoles with Solovairs? My fallen arches need that support!
I consider to buy a pair because of this video
was this the gaucho crazy horse?
IMO solovair boots/shoes are much better made than even the made in england Doc Martens. The leather is better quality, has a wooden shank - Doc have none these days - has a more bulbous shape (truer to the pre-1990s Docs, and a harder wearing outer sole. Current day docs start off feeling squishy and nice but soon lose their comfort. Solovairs on the other hand get more comfortable with time. Agree about that PU/PVC liner at the top. Either use real leather or get rid of it - some of their models dont have it. I would love to see a premium version with inner leather liner and maybe a leather footbed XD.
what about the solovair hi-shine boot, same quality?
Can you do Mont Blanc next?
Please deconstruct Jimmy Choo leather heels!!
Is that blood on the paper tissue?
Go over keen boots please
I want a Thursday boot vs Origin boots
Was that a wooden shank ??
Indeed it was
Obviously
Did you destroy some docs? I wanna seeeeeeeeeee
I wish they had Horween leather products
1:29 🤣🤣🤣 i think It speaks for itself you couldn't break it 🤫
Where you been all my life
DRESS SHOES PLS
How original!!
I was crying...
What is Bovine leather? Please let me know. Thank you.
Leather from different cow species'
You’re like “jack the ripper” of boots
OK, now put it back together.
Wow
I hope you can recycle leather
Rose Anvil did this video better.
He does great reviews!
hmmm,
Solovair, all they need is add a shank to sole of the shoes
200$ for thin paper leather and clothe with cheap, cheap rubber, isn’t a fair price at all for 25$ worth of bs shoe should b sold for 60$ or 70$ no more then that
25 of leather but there's people making that show that need to take a salary, plus cost of electricity etc so I'm guessing 70 will be all together and they also need to make a profit so actually isn't that expensive.
70 would be reasonable if they were made in thailand or some shitty factory but these are made in england where a livable wage is different
Add labour wages and shipping and you are at the 200 mark perfectly reasonable
