1: I have found that not skipping every other ice 'cube' is overall faster in build time. Yes you have to harvest 2x as much ice, but placing the blocks on the ice road is just running backwards with the mouse button pressed which far makes up for the extra harvest time. Having a solid ice road also prevents mobs from getting in the 'teeth' of every other block. mobs in the teeth will stop your ice boat, while if it's solid it will push them along. 2: I like to run a soul sand or soil strip nest to the ice strip. This allows one to run with soul speed if I don't want to break out the boat and is still pretty fast. Soul sand has the advantage that it can be placed right next to the ice and not slow the boat, as soil soil need to be placed one level down. Soul sand will slow down a player w/o soul speed however they can run on the ice path instead.
You can just strafe and if you press the right mouse button in just the right rhythm, you will place ice blocks on every other block at walking speed, which is just as fast as walking backwards while holding the button. The issue is having to later place slabs in between the ice blocks, but that is also pretty quick. I would probably guess building the ice road that way is still faster than gathering all the ice for a solid blue ice road, but it might be slower the doing so for a packed ice one. You also didnt consider the time spent getting all the materials for the buttons to be placed on the ice.
Hi wattles! At 11:36 that sound is made by your level of anxiety in game, when you press f3 you can find your level on the 3rd line from bottom up, it’s called “mood”. When you’re much time on a “cave” or underground that level will increase by time, just find it and feel it by yourself! Best regards from valencia, spain! ❤
Minecraft actually does that?! I thought I was going crazy. One time I was strip mining for a while and came near the deep dark and dear gods, the music and sounds really had me terrified.
First: hoglins spawn at any light level in crimson forests. So, you might want to use some buttons or something to spawnproof that biome of your road before you boat into a pack of them (they typically spawn in packs of 3-4). Second: a few others mentioned that you can use regular blocks in the open spaces between ice blocks to slow you down for the stops. This is generally more favorable to getting whiplash on running into a fance gate for most, but you do you. Third: you can make some very simple ice farms. Many use redstone like pistons to push large chunks for you to farm later. However, the easiest is just to make a sqaure on the ground with waterlogged stairs facing inwards in a frozen biome. This will always fill the entire area inside with water sources after you farm the ice with a pickaxe (which will then freeze over time while you have it within random tick range).
They should do an ice floor in one of the rooms in the trial chamber Edit: 17:11 the nostalgia with this reminds me of the infinite worlds snapshot april fools for 1.16
8:26 Leather boots are so underrated. Just throw them on before going into snow and never worry about powdered snow again. I keep a pair in a glow item frame at the base of my mountains.

Our server has an extensive list of choices for travel (several people can't fly with elytra for various reasons, etc) , from a complete pony express and well lit roads, to train stations and rails in the overworld and nether. We have an ice rail in one spot on the nether, but got some grumbling from people on slower connections because it's too fast and the world won't load for them 😂
This is just personal preference, but I usually put a 2-block lightning-bolt-shaped jag (for example, the ice road is a straight line, then a left turn, ice road two blocks, then a right turn, then a straight line again) in my ice road at every portal stop. That way, it's very easy to stop at each portal, but I can still push onward if that portal isn't my final destination. That can be annoying for some people, having to stop at every portal. But I find it a very convenient way to make sure I'm not shooting past the portal I want to stop at and having to backtrack. Hope that's helpful. :)
Spawn chunks only stay loaded if you have 'Smooth World' turned off when using Optifine. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but I'm on the early episodes and noticed that you had sugar cane that did not grow while you were exploring away from your spawn.
hey wattles, i know this is a bit late but you should decorate each of the portals in the nether to look like where they open up to. Like make the swamp one covered in vines and those blue flowers, and the desert one could have sand and cactus all around it?
Instead of fence gates, I like to add a little bit of non-ice flooring, maybe 3-5 blocks long, that slows me down long enough for me to be able to make the decision to stop or keep going, but not long enough to make it a pain to manually paddle through.
While I understand your reasoning for building the ice roads at the top, if you did them near the bottom, wouldn't you be able to find ancient debris easier?
Hey @wattlesplays, what do you think the odds are that we are going to get a new "Deployer" block in the 1.21 update to go into the dispenser family. By that, I mean a dispenser-like block that use tools to break things/attack or place blocks like string and cobblestone? Since 1.21 is the "Tinker" and Trials update. A way to place blocks automatically is the last thing missing in minecraft redstone automation. If we get that, it will make mods like Create somewhat no longer needed for true automation.
Awesome episode ! I am mad, my first boat highway I thought it needed to be 2 blocks wide and the whole thing lol. And it was like 25k blocks in the overworld sooooo it was a lot of ice lol. But eventually ima just go through and have enough ice from making it like this and be able to do my other halls :) one of my biggest regrets in the ole craft is that lol.
An activated dragon's head looks cool at the end of a water collection system. It looks like the dragon is eating the items. An automated basalt generator is easy to make in the Nether. Lava flows very fast and blue ice does not flow. It is just a matter of timing pistons to feed basalt into a TNT duplicator/harvest system. It is even easier to make a non-afk type that may or may not use a silk touch pick.
When you spend a few blissful hours catching up on the latest Wattles videos, just to be thrown to the wolves of reality when you realize you can’t click the “play next” button. No! No! Say it ain’t so! I don’t like reality. Lol 😢
I still prefer minecart lines; rails are cheaper than ice once you have an iron farm and gold farm, and rails also allow you to AFK during the journey as well as transporting multiple carts of chests. This kind of system is very useful mid-game before elytras and shulker boxes.
Not sure if you know this already. If you put carpet on top of your fences, youd be able to get in and out of your sheep farm alot easier. The mobs wont be able to jump on it either
Fence gates are THE WORSE way to stop. Just replace 3 or so of the ice for 3 or so normal blocks. The normal blocks will slow you down. It's long enough for you to read the sign and if you want to keep going, you won't have to click on the fences, just continue holding forward and power through. Normal block slowsters are also SUPER SUPER SUPER good for corners and intersections. You slow down at the turn for fine-tuned turning. Which is how driving is done in real life.
Before I have an elytra or set up and ice boat path, I always just bring a fast horse to the nether roof. Then outside every portal up there I have a fence post and a lead. I still do ice paths for super long distances though
In your next video you should make a willow tree-tree house... make it big if you do. I know willow trees are not a thing yet but you could make a fake one for the tree house.
There are ice farms that you can make... I've made a couple myself and I'm still a noob... sure you need to harvest the ice yourself but it is an easy build.. Maybe even easier then the witch farm. (Avomance made a couple good ones that are easy.)
Is there any reason to NOT build it on the roof of the nether? I realize you'd have to build the "walls" for it, but it seems worth the extra work. I know this is invalid for us bedrock players, but I'm just curious.
I have done minecarts in one world and blue ice in another. Had issues with hoglins in the blue ice world but the minecarts were expensive even with raiding the mineshafts. Have not done anything yet in my current world as everything is really far apart and the roof has holes. Lol
you did the ice i did a nether mine shaft with warped wood a lot of slabs i been following your world since the beginning but throwing things in to separate it a little
Soooo I may be remembering wrong but can't you use soul lanterns and torches etc to light snow and ice without it melting? Wasn't that one of the highlights of soul lighting? Not trying to pick on you Wattles just throwing it out there 😊
It's only pocket or this doesnt work that flawless in bedrock in general? because I have to put a contention block next to the ice and the space in between has to be covered too
wattles I did more research and shepherd villagers can trade 1 pink dye for 1 emerald if you cure them enough. If you crafted all your pink petals into dye thats like a whole double chest full of emeralds
@@Random_guy82 It's true that mending requiring a swamp villager is experimental future. However, in 1.20.2 the following fix was implemented: * Curing a Zombie Villager now only gives a big discount the first time * There is no longer a bonus discount for reinfecting and curing the same Villager multiple times See the 1.20.2 change log.
I've noticed that my portals haven't been linking well lately. Even if the coords are the same and I just move the portal into the nether ceiling the game still generates a portal far away.
What mods do you use? If you still use optifine, you must switch to the modpack fabulously optimized. It supports all Optifine features, including mob animations, connected textures, FPS boost, and zoom. However, it does above and beyond and improves optifine features as well. It gets more than 200% more frames, especially on good PCs, makes the menu look cleaner, and so much more. Also, I am not being paid to do this. I just believe the modpack is the best for vanilla.
Hi Wattles. Using an auto clicker with the click interval set to 1 millisecond to spam minecarts that are strategically placed 1 block apart from each other is actually a faster method than the boat on ice method. I'd recommend at least giving it a try

Try adding slabs below the ice! Might look cool and block mob spawns

How fitting. I'm in the process of streamlining the travel time between nether portal and end room, and you got this out. Perfect timing. 😎🙏

Hi wattles your videos are so helpful!!
I took horses into the nether and setup pony express stations. Pony express just seemed appropriate.
yah same, especially since on bedrock PE its harder to control your boat so it snags the wall too much to be fast, horses are so much better.
It is even easier to make a non-afk type that may or may not use a silk touch pick.

those are great for witch drops too but a witch farm is great for AFKing with no risk/need to get bad omen!
