TBH, Dio always could break out of coffin and simply walk on bottom of sea until being close to the shore (which he would know because sun rays would be reaching him) and just swimming out when it's night.
Or better yet, just climb someboat near shore and hide there to get to nearesr port.
he didnt know when it was day or night so walking out would be death, and he cant just open the coffin without breaking it due to water pressure
