    This has been my shower radio for about 6 years. My wife and I love it. I change the batteries yearly. It's a beast. High quality radio. Big fan.

    Since FM service will be terminated in Switzerland within the next 2 years (AM is long gone), such radios can be picked up here very cheaply, so I did. I haven't seen this built quality in a portable radio in the last 30 years. Usability is close to perfection, everything is intuitive and makes sense. FM reception quality is on par with the best FM hifi tuners i own. I could pick up a German station 200 miles away. AM reception was very good as well, many UK and some North African stations came in clearly. I like the fact, that it uses D-Cells instead of AA-Cells or even integrated rechargeables. It plays for months on one set and with some cells in storage, I always have a working radio. Sound quality isn't great, but perfect for news and good enough for music. I mostly have it out on my balcony and should I forget it there, some rain won't harm it. Only thing I don't like: When you change the batteries, the station memory and the time is gone.

    I have this radio in my shower, had it for several years, thinking of getting a second one for the kitchen. It's been AWESOME and with the echo of a bathroom it is the best sounding AM radio I've ever had in my shower. Agree it is a great emergency radio too.

    Great review! I’m getting one! A little tip for anyone here on buying anything that’s waterproof...whether this radio, LL Bean duck boots, whatever...even if you never desire to use it in wet setting, test it’s waterproofness thoroughly promptly after receiving it. Why? It’s still in the retailer return period (eg Amazon, Walmart, etc). 😃 I’ll be dunking this bad boy shortly. 😆 Thank you, Todd.

      Have owned it for several months. Many compromises in function and utility to allow it to be waterproof, which it is (I tested it). Since I seldom use it in the shower, wish I bought a non-waterproof model AM FM radio, but that's on me. For waterproof in-shower use, its a fine radio (but not at all ideal). Thanks.

    Own the Sangean H201 for 8 years and it started to malfunction. When I pressed the volume up or down, at time, it switched the band. I recently purchases the H202 Bluetooth. Wow, was I disappointed. It didn't pull in my local talk radio, which the H201 did, even with the antenna exposed. In IMO., the sound was not mellow, instead, it was brassy and lacking bass. When I played it via Bluetooth, it had to increase the volume 50 percent just to hear it. Since I couldn't listen to talk radio, which I do every day, I decided to return it. What a disappointment. I'm still using my Sangean H201 and making the best of it. Thought you should know. In the last year, I purchased two other large battery operated Sangean radios based on your reviews. (One of them has a USB port.) Thanks a million because I love them.

    I just found one at the goodwill bins that sell items by weight. $.69 per pound for electrical. So, this was like $1.60 and it works great.

    A very powerful speaker and very good for AMDXING for $60 you get quality like the CC Crane Pocket Radio but yeah the only negative is the wire for the antenna

    • @prakashexe
      @prakashexe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I have H201 (without Weather Band). It is a great radio! As you said, the only negative is its pigtail FM wire antenna. It keeps hanging. It can also get caught in the battery cover and break. Finally, I attached a small plastic rod on the back and aligned antenna wire with it. But overall, it is a great radio! Amazing quality.

    Thanks for the great video. I also saw your review of the H205 and was wondering out of the 2 models which one would you suggest? They are similarly priced on Amazon. I do like the layout/style of H201 a little bit more than the H205.

      @@todderbert I have a very old Sony shower radio that needs replacing. It a dial tuner and all the static is very annoying. That's why I'm looking for a digital radio.

    I use dollar store D cell batteries in my Sangean PR-D4W (right now those are Sunbeam zinc-carbon batteries.) 3 batteries for $1 and four of them last about 100 hours run at moderate volumes.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Sunbeam AAs, they are great in low drain portables.

    • @terrywho22
      @terrywho22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@todderbert Yes, low drain is the key... I'm sure if I needed to play the radio loud enough to hear across a room, the battery life would be much less than the 80-100 hours I am getting. That said, with the price being so cheap ($4 for 12 D cells!) my biggest concern was actually not lifetime, but leakage. The positive of a shorter battery life is that I never have a set in my radio for more than a couple of months. They have all looked almost new when I pulled them.

  • @mickeybrumfield764

    Great radio with a lot of cool features wish my PR-D4W had a light would trade the AC adapter for a light, maybe Sangean is setting a standard for shower radios maybe in the future they will all come with a light and emergency features. I think maybe Sangean understated how long the PR-D4W will run on a set of 4 alkalines, usually run mine on 12 AA batteries with D cell adapters but once tried it with inexpensive set of 4 heavy duty batteries and got about 60 hours. I believe alkalines will usually last 3 or 4 times longer than heavy duties. Thanks for the great review going to keep this shower radio in mind maybe my next radio purchase.

    An emergency radio without solar or crank?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fact it can give weather alerts and is waterproof is a big deal to me. I'm always stocking batteries so a solar panel or crank is not needed. Solar takes forever to charge unless you have extra solar panels to use as a charging system. The included panels are rather weak. The dynamos for me are a pain, but useful in a pinch. Just my opinion. I do love a cool Kaito Voyager..the KA500 being one of my favorites. If I was to go off the grid, but trying to keep it portable, I would use one of those efficient solar charged power banks and my CC Skywave as my radio of choice.

    • @oschiri66
      @oschiri66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of these have integrated rechargeable batteries. So you buy such a radio, put it in storage and when the emergency arrives 5 or 10 years later, the integrated battery has died, so it's useless, when it would count most. With the reviewed radio I simply put some easy to change D-Cells in storage and it's ever ready. ;)
