Features I like about this radio:
Solid DSP tuning on a micro size radio.
FM Reception is decent.
AM Reception makes this radio shine.
WX Reception is only one station, but it works, and that is fantastic.
Speaker Audio is pleasant sounding.

Just got this radio today, and Wow, "loving it" too. It's a neat little micro radio that packs a punch. Be careful though when you plug in the headphones/earbuds, seems much louder than on speaker. And yes, it is FM stereo sound on headphones. Amazing sound from this little guy, on speaker too. I bought it mostly for the WX component, but FM and AM don't disappoint. This my third todderbert radio purchase with SonyICF-P26 and SangeanDT200X. Like them both too, but this one might be the most surprising @$13.50. Thanks todderbert for review of this little gem.
I just purchased one of these radios last week after watching this video. I was NOT disappointed. This little wonder was able to pick up stations 300 miles away on AM at night. No kidding. I just picked up KFI 640 from Los Angeles, and I'm in the SF bay area. This was an excellent buy.

That's what I love about AM radio. Receiving radio stations out of your market area and sometines with formats not found on local AM stations.
Case in point. The Charleston, WV area used to have country and oldies stations on AM radio. 680 WKAZ-AM used to have a country format - and later a "singers & standards" format - under its old callsign WCAW. And 580 WCHS was the Charleston oldies station until they dropped the oldies for talk radio. (The oldies movies to 107.3 WKAZ-FM.)
I have several radios that have no trouble licking up 650 WSM, 720 WGN (discovered a great rock band on there called Last Underground who performed in studio), and 740 CFZM (Zoomer Radio) in Toronto.
Just ordered this on Amazon and can't wait to receive it. Recently Started collecting radios 📻 ....and can't wait to watch more of your reviews. Main reason I started collecting was for power outages. Now I'm including entertainment value and flexibility of power options. Battery, solar, hand crank etc, Bluetooth, cassette tape player, CD player, NOAH WEATHER, ETC. Thanks for your videos!
Todderbert, the Retekess PR15 appears to be a proven performer indeed! I like the sound and the sensitivity of the PR15 is above average! It appears to be a very exciting radio even though it is rather compact! I might have to pick one of the Retekess PR15s up! Thank you, Todderbert, for an excellent tutorial review on the Retekess PR15! P.S. For an analog AM scale the dial pointer seems to be fairly accurate...
Just got mine today..$11 delivered. Smaller than expected which is great IMO, fits it my pocket while at the gym or mowing the lawn. Bought some skull candy earbuds to go with it, perfect setup for me. Can’t go wrong with this little guy, loving it. If it craps out after a few months I’ll just get a new one. Got the Retekess PR-15 yesterday (1.3.24) noticeable difference in this one and the one you reviewed, the “tuning” led is now a “power” led and is constantly on when the switch is on, does not indicate station strength. But here’s the best part. The headphones on fm are stereo. There is no indication of this in the “manual” or on the radio itself, but listening to music with extreme channel separation indicated it. Watched another video on it from “the radio geek” where he took the radio case off to display the interior…and the chip has stereo capability.
Really nice review of the Retekess PR15. It's obvious you're very knowledgeable with the AM band. The PR15's AM performance during your review was very impressive to say the least. I've already ordered 4 of these on ebay, prior to seeing your presentation. Your review has confirmed my purchase decision was spot on. Thank you. BTW... I understand FM delivers stereo when using headphones. (Regardless though, headphone Stereo or Mono, neither is a deal breaker for me.) The compactness & performance at the price point found at Retekess PR15 on ebay, I'm confident this fantastic radio deserves considerations for multiple scenarios... such as Hiking, Camping, indoors/Outdoors around the house, even emergencies... & emergency bags! For the price & performance, this radio is the go to choice for a light portable radio for entertainment, information & emergency awareness.
Based upon your review, and other reviews of this radio, I purchased two of these for my two elderly parents. It's a good listening radio, with that added weather band emergency feature, and not too many confusing buttons 👍

@@todderbert absolutely, it has great performance for a light weight device, picked up all the stations I needed, including the weather broadcast which came in a bit weak, but considering we are are located very far north, I'm impressed that we still received the WB indoors.
Love how elegant this radio is, devoid of fripperies that look Nathan Barley but are too much for something that has only what you need.
Read all the comments, saying that the price on our Amazon is more expensive, I immediately adjusted the price from 29.99 to 19.99, I hope everyone can get satisfied. Because Amazon has a better service system, there is no chance to make the price lower to about 10 dollars. I hope you can understand

Bought one for my father who still does outdoor flea markets and needed a weather band for pop up storms. Everyone at the flea market tries to buy it, haha.
Absolutely grateful for the awesome videos you produce! I purchased this radio on your recommendation from this video and absolutely love it! It's become my "dog walking" radio! Very lightweight and fits perfectly in a shirt or coat pocket. I love that the volume control is on top ....so when people stop to chat I can easily turn the volume down without taking the radio out of my pocket. The speaker sound is perfect...even on windy days in a Carhartt (style) coat! And I love that I have the weather band ....always nice to have that as an option. Great radio and thank you!
Thanks for the recommendation and have got this yesterday! It has a big sound comparing to its size and it is very light-weight that I can carry around when I go jogging. But I am still getting used to the tuning, the FM is good, but the selectivity is a bit tricky. And as you said, AM is gold!! Have got around 10 stations in the evening here in Germany. very fun to play with! :)
Just got mine, mostly for an emergency bug out bag for weather, though AM and FM and work great. I can use it for weather with great clarity without pulling out the antenna. So small and the speaker is good enough to not have ear buds for my use. I may add some and spare batteries and put in a tiny zip lock and call it a day. Maybe I will keep the batteries out as it may sit for years and I would hate battery leakage to destroy it. For the cost of 2 coffees, mission accomplished. Well done Retekess.
I purchased one, it has great sound for a radio that size, and it picks up a lot of stations, I'm very pleased with it.

Ordered this Retekess PR15 based on your recommendation and just got it today. You did not lead me astray. I paid $13 free shipping for this radio. I am very pleased with the design and performance. Worth double considering how crazy small it is. When the CCrane Skywave dwarfs a radio that is saying something. So glad I did not get the little Kaito 200. Not only are my local AM and FM stations coming in great but I can pick up NOAA on two channels loud and clear. And the little speaker is more satisfying that it has a right to be for the size. I like how you can stand the radio on the bottom or the side with it slightly angled up. I have pocket radios like Skywave and love their small size. However the PR15 is really the only one I want to put in a pocket. I like to take my Skywave traveling because of the weather band. Now instead of always taking my Skywave when traveling I can take another cool radio that does not have weather band and the PR15 and still have plenty of space. Thank you for your informative review on this radio.
So, one thing to note here is, it is actually stereo. I was able to try it out both with a transmitter as well as listening to stronger stations with headphones. Songs I knew had stereo when broadcasted really stood out with good stereo sound.
Very few sites mention it, but it is really nice and makes it, I think, on the league of the CCrane and Sangean pocket radios.
Mine is defective. May have to get another ,because I would like stereo on mine.

Great review ( as always ). I own three of these, and although you mentioned the FM was mono, all three of mine receive FM in stereo, which is one reason I got extra ones after loving the first one.

You had me at 'Micro AM/FM/WX Radio'! I do believe that's the tinest AM/FM/WB radio I've ever seen (the smallest dedicated WB radio would be the Midland HH50). That looks like a perfect radio to put lithium AAA batteries in and store somewhere in case of emergency or carry around in case severe weather threatens, even though it doesn't have Alert capability like the HH50 does (they're both so small you might as well carry both!)
These are low cost also. Gotta love the micro weather station :)

I purchased the Retekess V115 AM/FM/SW MP3 Rec Player for 22 bucks and less with discounts on Amazon and it is great.
Man, this is light in weight as you can hold it with two fingers and it definitely can fit into a pants pocket or preferably in a Sling Bag.
Great loud sound. Rechargeable. You can plug in
a stereo loudspeaker or headphone. Great reception.
Spend a couple of extra bucks as this is a great upgrade.
Retekess makes great radios and a lot cheaper than Sangean, Sony, Eton, or Panasonic.
I get one today after seeing this video, $11.21 on eBay. Great radio and the weather band is a killer. I love its size and portability. It came working perfectly and it is great on AM regardless of how small it is. Thanks for the video.

Yet another great review Todderbert! I liked your review so much, I bought this radio tonight! Mine cost just £13.99 UK Amazon inc shipping, and it comes to me tomorrow. I was looking to buy that tiny Sony ICF T46 you reviewed, but it's really expensive here and it would cost me a lot to ship it over! And actually, this Retekess seemed to sound and perform even better than that Sony, from what I could hear!

Nope, just checked mine and no stereo. Used a couple pairs of headphones and tuned to my local FM music station that is easily picked up in Stereo and nada. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm thinking it is not a feature. I looked at their advertising on Amazon and they do not mention Stereo sound in their description.

I have been trying to pick up a certain FM station on various radios around my house....Not until this one was I able to listen...So, thanks for the recommendation. South Florida. We don't have have many good stations here anymore.

Wonderful. I was hoping you would do a review on this radio. Seems like it would be a good backpackers radio given its size.
This would make a great hikers radio. Keep a little wire wrapped around it for NOAA/FM reception boost for that little antenna. Works like a charm.

It would be about perfect for hiking/camping, etc.
There is no belt clip, but it is so small it will easily fit in shirt pocket.
And it’s plenty loud with that little speaker.
As I said, mine is Stereo.
Looks like they actually put some thought into it.
The only thing I don’t like is the DSP tuning.
Can be a pain if trying find a favorite weaker station.
As a follow-up ... I did purchase this and give it a thumbs up as a lightweight backpack-able radio. Given its size, the audio is good and weather band reception is acceptable. If you happen to have an old clam shell cell phone case, this fits perfectly.

Thanks for the review Todderbert. Got one of these a few weeks ago and have absolutely no regrets. It's a treat for the price. FM is great, holds the stations very well and sound is rich on earphones. Need to explore AM some more in the evening. I can't get weather band where I live in Dublin so I just look out the window. Such a tactile little radio.

That is what I would do.
A local discount store had 4 or 5 of the Sony ICF-S10MK2's and luckily I bought one. I should have bought them all, but it's good to know you can still get a basic pocket radio.
This isn't bad, and I've been told that they are stereo also. Mine isn't but it might have been a defective headphone jack.

I got one 8 months ago and I've playing with it for quite while, the manual tell nothing about FM stereo or mono but my radio really does get stations with good but not great stereo separation. Why they didn't wrote on the manual tha this radio has stereo FM? Very strange, by the way, it's a very nice radio, two thumbs up! Thank you mr. Such a shame 😔 it doesn't have a belt clip, I have one and I like it, but it does like to eat batteries for a small raido.
I almost forgot, in my radio as soon it receives in stereo the tuning light start to flash in intervals of 1 sec, and again the manual doesn't show anywhere this feature. Little thingy with a hidden surprise hahahahaha.
Same here (just bought). By the way, I'm near Ft. Lauderdale and can pick up two weather bands with this radio: one strong, in English, and one not quite as strong, in Spanish.
I didn't think it was flashing for that reason.. how did you know that?
I thought the flashing meant it was still not receiving the full tuning spectrum of the station, mine does the same thing, then when I move the tuning dial a touch more, the light goes solid, and the sound really clears up.
Last night got WOAI (991 miles) with one of these

Kind of interesting, my PR15 wouldn't turn on reliably. Had to switch on/off a few times to get it to turn on. The eBay seller was nice enough to send me another one. Same thing. Bummer. I put in some alkaline batteries, no problem, fixed. I guess these radio's don't like my eneloops. Nice radio, glad it works well with the alkaline's.
I have a few radios that don't like the NiMHs too.

I bought this myself because, sadly, my Kaito KA-210 stopped working while me and my family were on a cruise back in 2019.
I love this radio. I find the sensitivity very poor on MW even at night. I guess that's no surprise given the tiny ferrite in this thing. Superb audio quality from the speaker. I find the audio better than my R-909, which I find a bit shrill in the treble. The PR15 speaker has a nice balanced tonal quality. Build quality is excellent as well. A great buy for £10. I may get another as backup.
They should have just went with the whip antenna for AM reception but I'm not sure with the modern chips if this can be done cheaply.

Listening to VHF taxi frequencies, instead of Weather on WB band on PR15.
How much better is the FM or WB reception with headphones, on a scale of 1 to 5? Do you recommend this or the Prunus J-777?

The P150D is better, but does not have the Weather Band. I'm not sure of the regular analog P150.

Todd can you tell me more about the cc crane transmitter 2 what are you doing there ?
It is a small FM transmitter that I attach a mp3 player to, so I may broadcast royalty free music within the confines of my home. It allows an audio demo of the radio...which you can compare to other radios I have reviewed. Helps give a general idea of the tonal quality.

I received this radio on january 3, 2019. One thing I noticed to this radio, the tuning indicator did not stay lit mostly in AM band after tuning to AM stations. Then this january 17, it suddenly stopped working after I heard a couple of static popping sounds. I replaced new fresh batteries but it was still dead. What do you think, sir todderbert, is the problem of my radio?
Is the radio dead or just the LED? It sounds like the LED died or came off the board. I tried opening my radio and found it very difficult so I left it alone.
@@todderbert, the radio is dead. I opened it up and checked the wires from the batteries and voltage on the soldered part, I got a reading OK. Also I messaged the seller but he is still not replying.
could be a bad component on the circuit board, capacitors are known for failures like you described. I'll keep using mine for awhile more to see if I have any issues. Good luck with the seller, if its over a certain time you may not have recourse. Find out your options. Credit card payments are usually the best way to go, they can help you out if the seller doesn't .
@@todderbert, yes, it might be the circuit board/component problem but I could not find any schematic diagram in google to begin my troubleshooting. I will check the capacitors as you suggested. Thank you , sir.

How do you feel it compares to the Kaito KA210? Is it worth the $5 difference?
It is worth a $8 difference, in the States I can get the PR15 for $12ish and the Kaito for $19.59 USD, I would get the PR15. If it is a $5 difference for you, then I would go with the 210. Reason, runs longer on 2AAs, bigger speaker. The PR15 is micro sized for extreme portability. That is the main reason I would choose it over the 210. But I would miss the extra run time of the Kaito.

How come you didn’t even demonstrate the FM reception?
Because just one second or two of copyrighted music can make it so this video may be only viewed in certain countries.
todderbert If copyrighted music is allowed in your video, I want to know: Does TH-cam include the information of the songs, artists, and music companies of whatever song is being played in the video description for you, or do you have to include it manually?
I would not recommend it. The main problem is that some countries may not be able to view your video. Plus I had a small clip of OZZY and TH-cam would not let me publish the video.
