beutiful work...!..Daniel....!..i would love to see a whole video on that cam grinder...from set up to finished product...so i can get a better idea/understanding of the whole process...!...the knowledge u have learned...is priceless..IMO...!..thanks 4 the video..!
Hey Daniel, Tim here, SUPER cool to watch....u SURE got talent, and natural abilty/sense......i continue to be impressed by your machining knowledge and prowess......TY sir!!
As little as I know.... I sure like hearing you explain what's going on. Sadly I think many guys doing this work do not have your level of knowledge or understanding which might be why I appreciate as much as I do? Anyhoo, thanks for sharing it !
Glad to see you showing people in the video you and the engine builder Steve Morris basically the only ones that want to show people operations and explaining what it's about that way people can understand why people charge what they do for detail to work
Nice work Daniel. Very cool that you are self taught, I'm self taught in most of what I do too. Determination can lead you to success if you're willing to work hard and focus on positive goals.
Great job, certainly different, always amazing to see what you can achieve with your machinery, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
I've learned more about engines and CNC milling watching your videos than I ever thought I could. I'm not a mechanic or anything - just interested in craftsmanship and engineering. Question though - can someone point me to a video or a resource that explains how a index plate works in determining firing order? I understood that the holes drilled affect it, but not the actual function of the plate. That's my lack of knowledge obviously, but when I tried to google search it, I just got a bunch of garbage. Appreciate any help the community can offer. As always, thanks for teaching us so much.
When I first started grinding cams you used a 45 degree plate and had to do some math on swapped fireing order cores...I felt spoiled when I got to use a 1-8 plate lol Fun times
so LS firing pattern ona big block chevy? thats pretty interesting woulda loved to see what effects it would have compared to a stock style cam of the same specs
@@powellmachineinc I am familiar with CO2 lasers but that's not what I'm thinking about. I hope everyone within sight of the machine is wearing the proper rated laser protective eyewear while it's operating.
I live in the the north. My boss sounds like you but has noodle arms. Everytime he talks to us I think to myself, I thought you had to be man sized to have that accent. No offense to you. He needs to get out of the office a bit and push more than pencils.
Made change in life choices here . Sold my brothers truck, bought me a laser engraver, cutter.
Just 82 years old. Gotta learn it fast.
Lol, you can do it
@@powellmachineinc couldn’t help it heard you say that inRob Schneider’s voice lol
I am just in awe of what you can do in your shop. I am a 25 year pro auto tech and the work you do is astonishing. Well Done!
Ty! We really appreciate that
Very interesting video, thanks for the opportunity to see more of the behind-the-scenes work you all do.
Our pleasure!

@@powellmachineinc will do...thanks..

Thanks again!
I am fascinated to see how much equipment you have for wot you call a Mum and Pop shop. It is a credit to you and your family !
Kit from down 2
Thank you so much!
For some reason I love watching machining done, Manual or cnc, it doesn't matter. Thanks for showing us the behind the scenes and explaining the why!
Glad you enjoyed it

Very impressed with how self sufficient you guys are. Seems like little if anything is farmed out. Total control, controls quality.
Absolutely, It's the only way we could not have issues
My wife and I really like your videos, and we like both of you too.
We really appreciate that
Nice work Daniel.

I always think it's cool that you can machine parts for the machines that you use to machine parts! Lol! 🤘
You got that right!
Boy I’ve been waiting for some cam grinder info!
More to come!
Very interesting. Thank you for your time.
My pleasure!
What a great timed video, the last video you did welding up that cam, I said to myself, how is he gonna match that cam to grind it. Great video.
Definitely

Several of my camshaft grinding videos show its function, check my play list
@@powellmachineinc Appreciate it. Didn't realize you had already talked about this.
Nice looking piece! Hello from the State of Texas!
Ty
I would be interested in how this all maths out, factoring the lifter angles of the bbc. I understand but have never seen it layed out on paper

Absolutely, without the proper plate accuracy is always sacrificed
It's nice having your own shop with no employees. Don't have to worry about others changing offsets or removing tools etc.
Exactly
Well that was pretty cool. Thanks for the post !
Glad you liked it!
The best tools, make the machinist. The worst tools, break the machinist.
@@additudeobx definitely
more lovely work. great video as always
We appreciate that
excelent job
Ty
Always good content
Ty!
that VMC looks alot like my Bridgeport 308 VMC
It's before the 308, it's a Interact 412
I’ve always wondered how you index the cam and then each lobe.
We have a video showing it on the machine
Fuking awesome
Ty
Next thing, collecting old tractor axles and using them for cam cores.
Lots of them out there.
I'm gonna pass on that
Nice
Thanks
Do you also make the lobe profile plates? Cheers
Yes
so LS firing pattern ona big block chevy? thats pretty interesting woulda loved to see what effects it would have compared to a stock style cam of the same specs
The "c" firing order existed before the Ls
@@powellmachineinc i know but its kinda best known with LS engines but i know top fuel and nascar engines used it before ls engine
What’s the purpose of 4 7 3 2 swap? Separate intake valve cycles from occurring in Siamese ports?
Better for harmonics in the crankshaft
@@powellmachineinc thanks
That laser doesn't need to be in an enclosure?
No, your thinking about a co2
@@powellmachineinc I am familiar with CO2 lasers but that's not what I'm thinking about. I hope everyone within sight of the machine is wearing the proper rated laser protective eyewear while it's operating.
Is it possible to do a 4/7 3/2 swap on an SBC?
Yes
So is crankshaft or Dampener ignition triggering more accurate than the distributor?
Absolutely
How much for a flat tappet stock 454 mark 4 cam
We only grind rollers
Do y’all make y’all’s own lobe patterns as well?
We have a lobe designer that does that aspect
