- Here is a video of us changing the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets on a 2013 Subaru Outback.
The issue it was having was using oil. Especially at sustained highway rpm.
It was using over 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles at highway speeds.
The Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Grommets, and Valve Cover Gaskets are replaced in this video.
9:19 I used some blue shop towels and some cotton swabs to get most of the oil out of the spark plug holes before I removed the spark plug. I looked in the spark plug holes with a scope. Amazon has some thick swabs on a bamboo stick I ordered just for the other side because it was such a pain. But ... there was no oil on the spark plug threads after I removed them. And that means I didn't unintentionally over lube the threads on the new plugs going in, so I didn't unintentionally over tighten them.
17:35 One of the plugs on this side was so tight, I thought it was stripped. I was freaking out for a few minutes and having second thoughts about performing this operation myself.
I literally just did one side last weekend. Doing the other side soon.
8:39 I think they smaller spark plug tube gaskets are for Outbacks in China. That's what I read somewhere.
was there no need to clear the plug chamber of oil?
The cylinder?
@@bruceyyyyy Think promethius821 means "spark plug tube" itself and whether it was cleared of oil before replacing the covers with new gaskets
Did this fix the oil burning issue?
It did not fix 100% but was a noticeable and marked improvement. Approximately 2 quarts a tank before and now a quart every other tank. We did the PCV at the same time (which will be another video)
@@bruceyyyyy can I ask what oil weight you are running?
