    Great list. TBR grows and grows. I need to live 200 years to work myself through it. 😀

    Really like your list!!! Some options that I haven't seen discussed elsewhere. I'm hoping Ædnan makes it but are finding more and more dark themed books that talk about women's rights which I hope make it.

    Intriguing list. I love the face you made after describing Children of the Dead. And your thumbnail face is great too. 😁

    Thanks for letting me know Salva Almada has a new book! I've read her other three books....I think you would like the Brickmakers if you have not already read it.

      I’ve heard about Brickmakers.

      @@AnnNovella All her books are short...like Charcos most are, but Brickmakers has this one image it keeps returning to that stays in my mind. BTW I read The Good Doctor on your recommendation. You laughed while describing it and so I thought it would exude humor..... I didn't find it, but glad I read it. Currently reading my mammoth, The Golden Notebook.

      @@sandra7319. the humor is more in the contrast. The one willing to do good is failing, and the other one who doesn’t really care does good. I really liked that book.

    You Dreamed of Empires sounds fascinating and I hadn't heard of it. Thanks for putting it on my radar. Summer Fishing in lapland is published in the US as Fishing for the little Pike. Interesting that the title is different. I just received The Understory just arrived from the publisher, so it would be convenient for me if it was longlisted.

      @AnnNovella  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, two titles is very confusing. No idea why they do that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Yes! I swore this description sounded familiar, but knew I had never heard this title before! I agree, I hate when publishers do that!

      @@meganmadkour9328 Right? I assume marketing drives the title changes, but the titles aren't all that different. I'm still scratching my head.

    Hi Ann, I read “Cathedrals” by Claudia Piñeiro in September of 2020, since then I’ve become more and more seduced by this author to the point that she’s my favorite author (for now). If you haven’t read Cathedrals I highly recommend you do, it’s considered a murder mystery but that is just a part of it, and may I say the smallest part. You never know what you’ll find reading Piñeiro.

    • @AnnNovella
      @AnnNovella  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is so true about her. It’s always so much more. I haven’t read Cathedrals yet, but I will!

    I would love Via Gemito to be nominated as it could push me to read it. I've only read Starnone's Ties and really enjoyed it, actually read it in Italian which was a challenge but thankfully it was short, unlike this one haha. He won a Strega for Via Gemito back in 2001. I know about the Starnone-Ferrante thing but my mind still refuses to believe it :D

      Oh really? The writing?

    • @jorgem71962
      @jorgem71962 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I found that the writing was all over the place. He spent a few pages describing how the soldiers got last walking around Moctezuma's palace and getting lost. Perhaps there was a point to it, but then the writing jumped to something else. There was another where he talks about one general's, I believe was a Spanish one, cutting his toe nails. Still not sure why it was included. Another issue that I had was trying to keep track of all the Aztec names. Worse then a Russian novel. I am sure that others have enjoyed it, but I did not find it engaging.@@AnnNovella

    Every book I've read because it won the Booker prize turned out to be the most painfully mediocre writing imaginable.
