    Okay so I came onto TH-cam looking for a vid to show me how to comp 2 different tracks simultaneously and thought it would take forever cos I didn’t know what to actually search. But this is genuinely completely spot on. Not even just saying it, this guy deserves more subs. You got mine mate 👏 gonna look at more of your vids now see what else is useful

    I've been coloring tracks one by one for years and searching how to do it for multiple tracks forever. Came for the groups, but learned about the colors. Awesome!

    Thanks for the tutorial, I usually know what I’m doing, but when there’s something I haven’t done in a while and I need a reminder, I’ll take a session break and search your channel. You’ve saved the day a couple times. Thank you!

    Just saved me at least 6 extra hours of editing! A pair of stereo pencils (2 mono tracks), a large diaphragm condenser (room) and a DI....all doubled. 8 acoustic guitar tracks on a 4 minute song. You're the real MVP!

    When I first learned of this trying to track drums, I immediately yeeted any other DAW... now my workflow is like this: 1. Group drums and turn on editing, quantize lock, and track alternatives, 2. Edit the comp how I want then duplicate it, 3. Duplicate the track alternative so my comp carries over, then 4. Flatten and merge the comp, so I have a single region, but the comp remains in the other track alternative if I ever want to go back... then do any slight adjustments for phase alignment to the regions, and then mix. Same process with guitars

    • @voodoochili12
      @voodoochili12 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your workflow makes sense, but what about this scenario: you edit your song, add a little flex time here and there to your flatten/merged tracks to make the best drum performance possible, but your drummer listens wants to see if a section can be improved. How would you audition those changes? You'd have to go back to #2 in your workflow, and listen to the PRE-FLEX TIMED takes! That'd be a pain - you wouldn't have the complete picture. IMO, you should be able to apply Flex Time changes to a multi-miked drumkit WITHIN THE TAKE LANES THEMSELVES. I have tried this, but there is either a bug or it's a product limitation, because not all take lanes are affected by the flex time changes. It's a real pain.

    Thanks so much! I’ve just recently been looking for a way to comp multiple take folders at the same time, but even after reading the take comping section of the user guide I didn’t find a solution!
    Here’s another feature I haven’t seen anyone make a video on: folders. I’d love to see an in depth video on folders as I can only find tutorials regarding track stacks and take folders. If anyone knows of a tutorial on folders let me know!

    Hey Chris! Have you ever had a situation where you duplicate a track and it’s magically grouped without being assigned to any group? This happened to me last night with a few duplicated audio tracks. It was so strange. Even restarting Logic didn’t do anything. Solo, mute, and the fader were all synced but they weren’t assigned to any group. I had to make new tracks and move the regions to the new tracks to operate them independently.

    Is there any possibility in Logic to "group" multiple tracks so that changes on one plugin on one track are also made on the other tracks? I saw that this is possible in Pro Tools. I just don't want to create that many busses which make my mixer look crowded.

      let me know if you found any help on this. I'm trying to group my autotune insert to be able to change the re-tune speed on one plugin and every instance of autotune gets changed to save from copying and pasting once I find a setting I like.

    Hi Chris, thanks so much for this! A question: if for some reason the tracks you recorded have a different amount of takes (eg. I soloed one of my tracks by accident in the middle of a session), or happen to be of different lengths, is it possible to unpack the tracks' take folders, make them the same (ie. have the same number of takes, or cut them so they're all the same length), repack them into new take folders, and then group them with Editing (Selection) ticked so that you can comp them simultaneously? Cheers, and thanks again for all your videos, they are my main go-to for learning Logic

    Anyone else absolutely detest this group comp thing? I usually have to delete a take if I'm recording a part and I don't hit STOP before it reloops. Otherwise, if I edit drums it throws the dead air track in every time I drag. But I see, just go down a series of rabbit holes and name file after file so that the 2 seconds it took to hit STOP after the track reloops can ignore the accidental 2nd take. Anyway to just DELETE that accidental 2nd take and the Logic universe acts like it never happens? Or is logic more like a passive aggressive lovers that gets revenge the moment you rely on it?

  • @omarhaddad2504
    @omarhaddad2504 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a problem on Logic Pro 9. I recorded 4 takes of a drum set, 8 tracks simultaneously each take, on a song. During the recording session, I accidentally had record-enabled only one track before the second take: Overhead R. In the moment, I realized, and I stopped the recording, but I did not delete it or undo it, so Overhead R has 5 takes, with take 2 being only a few seconds. Later during editing, I created a group for all 8 drum set tracks, but when comping, as I choose and edit takes, Overhead R remains the same. This is obviously because the track has a different number of takes, 5 instead of 4. The problem is that for some reason I am not able to fix this at all, no matter what I try: I have deleted the mis-take, I have deleted the file from the audio files folder (OH R#02.wav), and I have deleted the file name from the list on the Files Media tab. I even changed the names of the real Overhead R takes to OH R#02.wav, OH R#03.wav, and OH R#04.wav, instead of them being OH R#03.wav, OH R#04.wav, and OH R#05.wav respectively, and I have directed Logic to use those file names instead of the original ones. All takes have the same length and starting and ending points. No success: I can't get Logic to include Overhead R when simultaneously comping the drum tracks. Would anyone know what exactly is going on and what to do? Thank you very much.

    • @omarhaddad2504
      @omarhaddad2504 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fixed! All I did was create 32 new audio tracks and drop all 32 audio files in them (obviously ommitting the mis-take). Then I packed the four takes of each drum track into separate take folders and got rid of the empty tracks that would remain after packing. Then I group the 8 final drum tracks and now simultaneous comping is working on all of them.

  • @95Rixx
    @95Rixx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    my group isn't working for comping. All the drum tracks have the same amount of takes. It worked at first but at some point I turned the group and when I turned back on it didn't work. I even deleted the group and tried a new one and still no luck. All the other group functions work fine. Anybody has any idea how to comp a group of track together?

    • @95Rixx
      @95Rixx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @anonunknown7999
      @anonunknown7999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Logic only really does incremental updates. What would v11 bring?
      Personally I think audio editing is tedious and needs to be quick to use and destructive, like Audacity. Logic doesn't even have an adjustable fade feature, you have to add volume automation. This should be doable from the audio editor imo.
      Spectral editing/restoration like RX?
