Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Music Extended - Viridian Forest This rendition goes to 15 minutes with seamless transitions! www.explodingco... www.makaboymedi...
For a lot of people who grew up with the original games, this was probably the case. Imagine, you're in this completely new game world filled with monsters at every turn. Now you've suddenly entered a dark, maze like forest. What new creatures could possibly be waiting for you inside? Not to mention Kakuna is probably one of the creepiest looking Pokemon of gen 1 in my opinion. At least, to a child. Looking back as an adult, all of the Pokemon in Viridian Forest are merely weak bugs. (Unless you're lucky enough to find a Pikachu or Pidgeotto, of course.)
@@TheFoxFromSplashMountain Big facts here, Kakuna looks like an invasive extra terrestial spy. The big eyes and back in the games it had the weird blades. But the worst part when we had to encounter Mewtwo, he looked so weirdly botched and barely matured, like a fetus ripped out of the womb, the sprites of gen 1 were rather demanding for a 7 year old me.
@@ChupeTTe They were indeed much more disturbing back in gen 1. I always thought it was strange that Pokemon were called 'monsters' since most of them were so cute and appealing, but the gen 1 sprites definitely deserve that title.
This makes sense because in Gen 1 the music was so unsettling but that was probably out of fear because it's the start of ur journey. But in HGSS wen u go there it's like the end of ur journey so it feels much more comfortable.
the original theme had a small resemblance to the rocket hideout theme, but as in HG and SS all that has already ended, the theme becomes calmer, but still your comment may also apply (sorry for my english, i'm using the translator)
A lot of people say the reason for the change is because of how you’ve already beaten the champion, but I feel like there’s more to it. It feels as if it also represents how Pokémon have changed in the way they were depicted. In gen 1, they were depicted as dangerous monsters to be controlled, but slowly become our friends as we become more familiar with them as the generations go by. What was once a perilous trek through a dark forest filled with dangerous creatures becomes a pleasant walk through the wild with your friends by your side, meeting new friends along the way, growing stronger together. Rather than controlling them, you work side by side with them. They aren’t just monsters anymore, they’re our friends.
I heard a cool theory that Gen 10 will be based on Japan again, essentially being the full region for the place u visit in sv dlc. If that's true, I hope they give ilex forest an arrangement like this same thing with the lighthouse/mt silver.
@Ikey Ilex Agree to disagree. Them limiting the groovy tunes is better imo, how can I focus on the game if every hour I was jamming the the OST instead?
Red started his journey near Viridian forest, which was challenging that time. Meanwhile Gold became Johto champion, Viridian forest is not that terrfying, thats why the music become lighter?
yeah exactly. The sound producer probably had an amazing time remixing music from the game before it. Creating a soft atmosphere that was once horrifying for the player, now calm and as you venture through the forest once more. Of course in the first game, the start would be quite terrifying, but once you become the champion in the johto region of the second game, you feel ontop of the world. a few bugs aren't as terrifying as you huge Feraligatr or Typhlosion. While going through kanto, you feel like nothing can stop you, and the music represents that. You've become champion, what else is there to fear? of course, the gym leaders. Thats why their music is so much more intense. They show that they're not the brock or misty you remember, but stronger, more improved versions of themselves. You have grown since you started off your journey, and so have the leaders since the last leader ruled the region. basically, the music tells a story, a story of growth and evolution, humans do it just like pokemon, just not in the same way.
I actually like how they made the (when I was a kid that's what I thought) eerie original theme into an upbeat theme. This is my favorite remix of the music ever!
Something I find genius about the Kanto HG/SS soundtrack is that it embraces its Gen 1 origins and takes them one step further than Gold/Silver did. For example, even if this is overall a direct remix from the Gold/Silver Viridian Forest theme, you can hear a little melody from the Red/Blue version around 0:49 that wasn't actually included in Gold/Silver. But they re-introduced it here in a way that doesn't clash with the happier tone of the new track.
@@psuedonym9999 Guess you're right! I only remembered it from gen 2, which was the one I played. Looking back it seemed the forest went back to its usual size in gen 3.
@@dustinjones7458 yeah, the GBA cartridges had enough space for the upgraded tileset, all Pokemon up to Gen III, all of Kanto, *and* a new bonus area in the form of the Sevii Islands (that 6-year-old me never got to completely experience because I didn't know that you could get the national dex with only 60 Pokemon seen, I thought you had to see every Pokemon and I had missed a trainer somewhere that I could *never find*). So of course the DS cartridges could fit even more, and certainly enough to give Kanto the treatment it deserves.
Why is the music so happy in Gen II, yet in that generation the forest has been cut down? That makes no sense. It's like being angry when someone gave you something you've always wanted.
I guess they didn't like insects xD, no trees = no insects= happy music. JK, they didn't remove the viridian forest because they wanted to, it's because of the lack of memory of gameboy cartridges.
+moo Good point. Although, I just realized after looking at the game again that the trees aren't cut down, they're just smaller! So the forest wasn't cut down after all!
Memory limitations. Do y'all forget how hard it was to make this game? Kanto as a whole was a heck of a challenge to incorporate into G/S/C. Iwata suggested that Kanto be included and had the smarts to work around limitations, which as you can imagine required some condensing.
This is hands down my favorite number in all of the Pokemon series. Man, there’s just something about it that makes me feel so good and happy. And it’s one of the rare occurrences where it sounds just as good sped up on my emulator as it does in standard speed.

If Viridian Forest were in a Legends: Arceus type of game, I'd like it to play the RBY version at first, then after you beat the boss this is what it changes to.
It was never particularly dangerous it just seemed scary because the protagonist was just starting their journey, qhile i gac the protagonist only reaches it after already lo g since becoming a champion.
Well, the reason the original was so creepy is because it was Ash' first real encounter with trainers, in a place on his own... etc. When you're Silver/whatever the hell his name is, you've already beat the Pokemon League, you're the champion. Weedles and other low level Pokemon aren't enough to really faze you.
Yeah, but think about it, it's pretty fitting. +Uzaho2 said it pretty well, when you enter this dungeon as Red, you're inexperienced, and this is you're first real dungeon, making it seem much more dark and foreboding. As Ethan/Gold, you (probably) have a team of around Lv.50-60s, you're more than capable of dealing with Lv.4-5 Weedles and Caterpies. At this point you've braved Victory Road, this is just a pleasant stroll in a forest.
***** The reason it is so light hearted compared to the original.. As Silver, you're already the Champion, your level 50-ish team is more than enough to take care of level 4 caterpies and weedles. As Red/Ash, it was your first true "dungeon" so to speak on your own, that's why it was so dark/creepy.
I like most of the HGSS music but this one is... meh. It's too happy. I like the weird, creepy, nail-biting, there's-something-following-you feel of the original.
That's because Viridian Forest is the first area with Trainers in gen 1. Ofc it's gonna be creepy. By the time you reach Viridian Forest in Gen 2/4, you've already beaten the champion and have at least a couple Kanto Badges. The forest has also been cut down in that time.
EmeraldVladi I know this post was made long ago, but you aware that it’s because in GSC and HGSS, the wild Pokémon were way lower leveled compared to RGBY, where the wild Pokémon were equally leveled to the player, and also you being the champion in GSC and HGSS, making it all a cake walk, right?
