  • Recently I started an eBay reselling business and a second TH-cam channel that documents our new business. There's a link further below if you're interested in seeing that content. I'm primarily dealing with vintage electronics, so I want to learn as much about the operation so that I can repair defective equipment. In this video, we'll take a look at a non-functional vintage 35mm film camera and see if we can diagnose the problem.

    Hello, i just got this camera and the film door isn’t staying latched for some reason. I can close it but there is not “click” and the slider to open the film door will slide down on its own, therefore opening the door. Any way to fix this?

    I just got one of these for cheap and the metal prongs on the battery lid fell off. Is it okay to just super glue it back on?

    how the heck did you get the little cap off the self timer? Also, did you just glue the hand grip back on?

    • @fredlewis6527
      @fredlewis6527 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh i've managed go get the cap off but now I can't get that screw out :( I think there's some glue holding it in and now i've buggered the head

    • @FrenchRiverCo
      @FrenchRiverCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah that’s a bummer. Yes I just use rubber cement to put the grip back on. Unfortunately your only recourse now is to try to drill the screw out. Otherwise you might be able to fit a different size bit into it?

      seems stuck around where the self timer bit is also? Even tho I took that bolt out

    You broke the camera at 16 mins in. The iso will not click and the on off may work for a little bit eventually slip out of its alignment due becuae of a small piece of plastic snapping. I have done the same and still cannot figure out how to remove the front without breaking this part

    • @musicailments
      @musicailments 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the front lens cover build pops off. Get a screwdriver or end of tweezers, slot it in place [where you control the ISO dial] and slowly pull it away from the body, it should pop out on the bottom, then you just pull out the top and the whole thing comes off. When you swap/remove the front fascia just pull the body down so the ISO dial stays in place [with ISO 1000 version]. Or the ISO dial just pops out and can be popped back in just as easy. Hope that helps!

    I have this model without the 2. I want to get rid of it, but. Even with the batteries in and the red light on I can't get it to release my film that is inside. I may have some important pictures on that film from years ago and and don't know how to get it out out. Can you help at all?

      Open it in dark room and manually remove and rewind the film!

      @@simonbarth9702 Thank you. I didn't know you could manually rewind the film...

    • @simonbarth9702
      @simonbarth9702 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lauradavenport3385 Yes you can. If you want to be sure you are doing good, you can take a used film that is fully rewinded and try to build a tool for rewinding. Maybe you can use a screwdriver or something similar. Best thing is a little crank out of an old manual SLR camera that you can insert in the top of the film cartridge. So you can practise under normal light and use your skills for that film inside the camera in the darkroom.

      ^ This. I'd wear some gloves so the oil on your fingers doesn't contaminate the film.

    Hey I have this camera. It was working perfectly and then I tried to use it the other day and the lens just didn’t want to open. I can hear a noise in the camera when switching it on but the lens just doesn’t want to respond. What do you suggest I do?

    • @FrenchRiverCo
      @FrenchRiverCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My guess would be that the gear that opens the lens has broken. It’s fairly common. Was it dropped recently? Unfortunately the only way to know is to open the camera up.

      @@FrenchRiverCo thank you for your reply. No. Not that I’m aware of, I’ve not dropped it

    • @FrenchRiverCo

      Try looking for camera repair shops in your area, but they’re not as common as they used to be. I have no idea how expensive it would be.

    I just got this almost exact camera from an ebay seller. Was working perfectly until a week in and the shutter button is now stuck. I just put new batteries in it. The light is on, I know it's working. The button just will not press down to take a photo does anyone have any suggestions?

    • @GUENILLA

      Hold it with your right hand and hit it INTO your left palm (good batts obviously) and hit it until it fires shutter. Obviously not a true fix. But it usually works. I'm three for three. Sometimes age requires a bit of a push.

    I bought this camera for 5 USD, and the shutter doesn't open or close, but everything works, so it seems to be a mechanical issue, I will try to update if I manage to repair the camera
    Update: It looks like it was indeed a mechanical issue in the shutter, it wasn't a major issue so I only needed to reasemble the camera back again and everything works fine. Now I'll use it for a couple of days and hope for the Auto Focus and lightmeter to work and don't see broken seals and light flares on the photos when I get the photos back from the lab
    UPDATE: Finally my photos came back from the lab a couple weeks ago, and I gotta say, i didn't believed how well the pictures came out, so sharp, almost none of them were out of focus (and the ones they were, was bc i didn't know the min. focus distance is 90cm, which is a lot for casual photograhpy with friends), the shutter speed, the winding, the flash, the lightmeter, the autofocus, all of them were excellent. One of the best purchases (6 USD) i've ever made
    Thank you for the video!
