  • This was a great day, I love collecting data. Why feature work on the Black Pearl? Every year we have about 28 new technicians aboard this vessel, and sometimes we even get to go out on fun expeditions! We'll be filming this playlist all year and hope to share many stories from this legendary Pacific Northwest Cruiser.

Yes, up in Alaska cruising inside passage for past 6 weeks-my data was correct, just added 200 more hours at between 1700-2100, 1.6-2.2 gph. Love it, run it up every now-n-then to build good temp and keep turbo clean 😀

Really good data collection. Thank you for explaining how you collected it all. Good stuff

So at 2100rpm and burning 1.9-2 gallons of fuel you are only pulling around 50hp out of the little Yanmar. Should get a healthy range and a relatively good lifespan at those rpms.

Hoping so, most of us don't live long enough to wear one out if we take good care of it!!

      Absolutely.
Only things that let those little yanmars down are poor quality fuel, an excess of offload running and lack of servicing.

    Boat manufacturer? Model?

It's a 47' Skookum. Ed Monk sr. designed. They were built in Port Townsend, mostly - the 53' model was more popular and more of them are around. I was told, but don't know how to fact check, that there actually was government grants for fuel efficient work boats back 50 years ago - hard to believe...
