I haven't had it crash once. Yea I was in the same boat as you. It was strange switching after using logic for 15 years. I put a lot of work into learning it lol. I actually like the editing more in LUNA!
I have been using Logic predominantly, but have started introducing Luna in my workflow towards the end of the mix... and I agree with everything that is being said here.
No DAW makes your music sound better...it all depends on your gears and skills and tools...and finally, your choice. If you like something, you will always like it even if they look horrible. I use Logic, Pro Tools, Reason, Studio One, and a host of other DAWs for different purposes and none of them is perfect in any way.
That ARM feature is just a marketing thing. In Logic you can record with zero latency when you have a apollo thru console. Its the same. And when you arm an instruments in Luna it just changes the buffersize to 128 in the background. You can find the information in the manuals on uad homepage. Luna is slow and buggy and after 2 years it has still a long way to go. And the plugins are to expensive. I mean just compare what you get in logic for 200 bucks.
If you want to compose very fast, logic, studio one, fl studio etc are the best. For mixing luna is grate but you can achieve all you're saying in any Daw
Truth be told...I did a mix in Studio One...bounced everything out with all fx's...put the same mix in Luna and copied the exact master buss chain...Luna actually beat it out with the same exact settings...something is different in the processing in Luna.
If there’s hidden processing happening on the individual channels yes. Otherwise long debunked claim with all daws. Harrison included. Possible different presets. Otherwise it’s just data
I still cant find a fix to my only luna problem. If i'm recording drums and nail a take then go over to guitar and start recording a new track and mess up I'll "ctrl-z" to undue the track and it will undue the work I did BEFORE the thing i'm trying to undue as in IT WILL DELETE ALL OF THE DRUM TAKE I JUST DID and leave the guitar track that I WANT to undue then I to to redue but redue is greyed out and undue just undoes something before the drum take like it constantly deletes the track before the one i'm trying to delete. No the tracks are still there in a folder somewhere and it take about 20 minutes to go dig through folders and unnamed files to find the tracks it deleted and re line them back up. it happens once or twice per session. I'm for real going to switch back to logic just because of this. Nobody had answer this problem i've posted in a few places. I cant record this happening because i would have to just record for hours and hope I get it on tape and then what just setup a camera behind me looking at the screen? What a pain.
Just what I was looking for! I just stumbled upon your channel and this topic was top of mind, as I’m a 20+ year Logic guy. My strategy with UAD has been to divest of outboard gear/racks in favour of UAD emulations and the Unison pre-amps, so I was excited about Luna and tried it briefly. I find Logic is musician oriented, whereas Luna is studio oriented like ProTools. I used to record acoustic drums, guitars and amps, but with virtual instruments and samplers, acoustic recording is down to about 15%. It seems to depend on your genre focus. I see hip hop/pop/beats producers using Ableton and similarly creators using Logic. Luna is probably not for them. However, studio producers working with a variety of genres and artists might prefer Luna. After my trial, I realized I’d have to up my investment in UAD plugins, channel strips, etc. In a way, Luna is marketing strategy for UAD.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork I really like Luna. It is the main reason I haven't replaced my Apollo and relied solely on my Satellite for running UA plugins.
@@musiccreation1198 glad to hear! Since the last update I have had major issues… I will be posting a video soon. I love it too but unfortunately it has given me huge problems recently because some of my plug-in providers don’t support it.
I tried luma. I dont get what going on with it. I installed and download the various recordings for it off their site. I never have an issues down low with kicks i have great monitors and highend headphones everyone of the kicks even when the channel was tweak sounded terrible , distorted even lowering the volume mix and compression and tried through any of my 5 interfaces and speakers and headphones. I tried to sort this issue out with the kicks they sounded like splats and farts . Dont have issues on ableton ot logic or bitwig just luna so i dumped it after a day.
Made the switch a few years ago.... no regrets. We need multiTrack recording for virtual instruments i.e Drums.I find myself using Ezy Drummer 3 in logic, then transfer those stems to Luna
Speaking of gain, I’m surprised that for a home recording channel, the volume of your voice in your videos is pretty low. I always have to crank the volume to hear you properly. Otherwise, love your informative vids, and I’m gonna give Luna a try. Just switched to Apollo from RME 2 weeks ago, and the heritage plugins included with my new interface are pleasantly incredible. First time using UAD plug ins and I’m in love!
I can't say that I have extensive experience with either one - my main DAW has been Reaper, Reason and Cubase for years - but I have full licenses to LUNA and Logic. What I can say is that I've tried to get into Logic so many times but I simply can't get the workflow to work - it's so strange, many people like it a lot, but I can't get almost a sound out of this DAW. But with LUNA it took me 10 minutes of orientation and I can imagine producing an album with this DAW. The only obvious thing that sticks out for me is the lack of decent comping but that will be surely added in the coming releases at some point. The workflow in LUNA with the console style mixer is just fantastic. I found it incredibly intuitive, musical and it assisted in making more creative choices - for example because of the console strip, I tried using a gate on a drum buss and the resulting was super interesting. I can imagine becoming a better musician with LUNA.
And also Luna comes packed with bugs and a lack of lot features you take for granted in others DAWs. Duplicating a Track, great - but then wait a couple of min for Luna to recalculate the plug-ins. Each time!? Loading a project can take more than 5 min. On a iMac 2020 i10 9core with 64 GB RAM. In other DAWs the Mac doesn’t even break out in sweat.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork - for tracking its already one of the best the best for UAD owners, and it will be great someday when the bugs is crushed and the features catches up.
I've really enjoyed using Luna for the last 6 months, but I'm moving back to Logic...and selling my UA gear. Being "imprisoned" within proprietary dsp hardware in order to use a daw? No thank you.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork Sure, they work great. No way, no how are they worth the $$. DSP systems are only needed by a tiny group of people in 2022. If you own a 2021 / 2022 Mac, you can track / monitor with plugins ... no dsp required. Food for thought: th-cam.com/video/siAZHdGAWwo/w-d-xo.html --and-- th-cam.com/video/aBD9OA71-_M/w-d-xo.html Key moment in video above: @11:10ish I will not invest in UA's dsp hardware. I just ordered the Mac Studio Max with 32gb ram & 1TB ssd. $2200. It runs circles around UA satellites.
You may want to edit/re-upload the edited video in that section where you say it “requires an Apollo interface”. It is now free for all Mac users for a while now.
Great content here. I’m a long time Logic user and am considering doing some work in Luna, having downloaded it when it came out and being an Apollo guy. Thanks for sharing. I definitely subbed and am looking forward to digging deeper into your content. 🙏
For rock/metal, the only amp sim you really need is the Friedman BE-100, the Suhr SE-100 or the Marshall 2203 amps. All of the others kinda suck. Anyways, you only need to buy one as you’re using it for monitoring.
Long time Logic user -- I began using Luna, but it's just not ready to replace Logic yet for me because I'm an ITB guy with massive VST instruments. But what Luna is great for is MIXING! The tape sims and summing is amazing. Nothing else can do that. It is really hard to go back to mixing on any other DAW after you get a Luna session with a tape sim on EVERY TRACK you want! Then add API and Neve summing (which are extensions, not plugins) and it is soooooooo sweet! And the workflow is smooth and easy. Two problems: the font is too damned small, and THERE IS NO UNDO HISTORY! Major flaw in a modern DAW. But there will be one added this year and it's not a deal breaker. Oh, and the Unison tracking is awesome for recording live instruments like you mentioned.
Thanks for the comment my man! Yes I think UAD will definitely be there some day! It is just so new. I too am loving LUNA for tracking and mixing. I still love logic as well though! Cheers!
Is there a way to use more than one audio interface with Luna? For example, one UAD Luna compatible device plus a second USB audio interface? Or is it possible to sync Logic and Luna, so if for example, I had a UAD interface for all things Luna but when I need to track with my other interface I could record into Logic, then at some point just export from one daw and import to the other for final edit/mixing? I actually have a 3rd interface that is a monitor controller, so the monitor-outs from UAD and my other USB interface could easily connect to the monitor controller so monitoring would not be an issue at all in my setup.
You can feed other interfaces into your Apollo through the light pipe if your interface has that ability. I use to do it with my presonus digi max. I do find myself bouncing my Luna project and putting it into logic to add some of the logic instruments. I then bounce those tracks as audio files and throw them into Luna for mixing.
Luna sounds great but without being able to hybrid mix with my analog gear it’s still a pie in the sky at the moment. Luna desperately needs something like the I/O plug-in Logic offers. Why UA hasn’t addressed this by now is honestly just plain silly. They lost a customer as I’ve since ditched my Apollo and focused on higher end conversion with the Lynx Aurora (N)
Thanks for a great video, how big is Luna(mb)?Just bought apollo x8p,and think that i should run Logic pro x, and Luna sometimes.(Just ordered the new mac mini studio M1 max)
instead of using a stereo bus to make mono stereo couldn't you just copy the mono track and combine them in a stereo one? Good video I'm tempted to check Luna out (Logic + Ableton user). A small critique on the video though, the nervous head shaking is really making me a bit dizzy ;-)
Thanks for watching! Duplicating the track would actually make the track stereo. They call that “mono stereo”. It’s not nervous head shaking lol it’s just how I am when I talk. 😂
Im really tempted to switch ! Do you have a video of the drum comping / video comping merhods you use ? For example i miss the feature in protools when you can set “play a head” so you can always preview a few seconds back when editing Thanks
Actually LUNA is not the only one (or first) which allows mixing different sample rates. Reaper has done that long time and does that fluently. Only thing you notice is a little mark on the imported audio-clip in case you want to know something has been done. :)
Reaper can also import/record at different sample rates in a single session. Alchemy and other Logic stock effects are among the best I have ever heard. I still use them even though I have hundreds of 3rd party plugins. Luna is also missing major features like multi-output functions and as you mention - low latency monitoring thru 3rd party plugins.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork 40 reports that it wasn't relevant and was 'attempting' to pull Logic users to use Luna instead. I had to continually stop the facebook admin assistant from deleting it anyway. I actually didn't mind the discussion - but it probably makes more sense in a UA or Luna group. I run two of those as well.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork I want to record audio from other apps. I see that I can set the virtual inputs in the midi settings but I wonder how to input more than 1 virtual audio input so i can record them separately
@@streamvoodoo6504 o I see. I don’t know how to do that either. I would join one of the LUNA groups on Facebook and ask there. Someone might have an answer for ya.
Hey, I have issues with "heavy" UAD plugins on audio tracks in Logic (such as Neve 1073, Capitol Chambers etc) being disabled. Even with only 25% DPS being used. Would this be a reason to switch over to Luna? And also the "increase you buffer size" alert message when playing tracks. I see you refer to this in your video and say Luna ignores this. Thanks for the video, useful info.
I’m not sure what is going on with your dsp but I don’t think it is a logic issue. I could be wrong though! As far as the buffer size issue, when you are mixing in LUNA it will always have a high buffer so I don’t think you would get those pop ups as much. It’s free so why not try it out!?
I always have to bump my DSP pairs in Console to the max for mixing and getting all the dsp possible. So it’s not a logic issue. Go into to console and at the bottom click on settings i believe. The dsp pairs are usually only half way on and half way towards virtual channels.
Thanks for the thought provoking comparison! There is no question for me. Look at what you get for a couple of hundred. Logic drummer included. My Superior Drums 3 was WAY more in price. the latency of 3rd party plugs is Awful, as I discovered last night with 'Archetype Gojira" and so little in the way of preferences to control such things. Also it crashes, as I found out last night. The lack of sensible saving protocols means overwriting files can be EASILY done, which is NEVER a good thing in a professional setup. for me it is a stable and now mature DAW vs a new still in Beta DAW.
im using Gojira and never had any issues. never had much in terms of latency either with 3rd party plugs. maybe youre setting your oversampling too high or dont have your buffer size set correctly.
Great video. I think it depends on what you do. If you only record and mix. Luna sounds awesome but for arranging you might have to look elsewhere. Unfortunately I am not sold on the closed architecture of UA. Like Apple, if you do not have the hardware, to bad... Otherwise I would've taken Luna for a spin to see if it's more stable and less CPU hungry than Reaper.
Just one comment about the gain staging, you don't need to type a number on any of those values in the regions section, you can still click and drag. That said... I would really love to have it right on the audio track lol
Also with Alt-Shift-R you can pop out the regions window to float and move around which is useful if its the only thing you want visible from that left hand window
I left Logic and will be hard pressed to ever return. A few months ago I jumped in with PreSonus Studio One. Its a beast and has every single good point covered here between both Luna and Logic and then some. Some don’t care for Studio One’s high learning curve but if you stick with it you’ll be rewarded. Its definitely a bigger field these days. You’ve got Jacob Collier swearing by FL Studio, Dan Worrall swearing by Reaper and many of the old guard still in Pro Tools. Lots of options today. Thanks for the video. I just may have to try Luna for fun. 🤓
Thanks for watching! Man… I keep hearing studio one come up… I might have to try it out! Seriously… everyone is raving about it! I have never heard a bad thing about it! Have a good one bud.
I couldn't agree more! Studio One is just the best imo. And i dont think the learning curve is high.. the software is pretty interactive and easy to use.
I stick with ableton live + 3rd party plugins. I’ve tinkered with Luna but I find midi implementation quite clunky and it still has bugs with some plugins. I only use it for mastering so I can use the neve summing. Exporting the stems from ableton to luna is quite a hassle so I’m not bothering. But I’m glad it’s working for you.
Luna is by far the best sounding DAW that's out there right now. I had e Logic and Pro Tools and my mixes on those two DAWS are not even close to the results of my mixes using Luna. My mixes using luna is so much easier to get the professional sound using Luna.
It's a bit _shady_ to say "you get what you pay for" regarding LogicPro. I remember when Logic (with their available sounds) cost over $1500!!! Now it costs $199 all-in and is _at least_ twice the application it was then! (I'd go so far to say the free Garage Band is more capable that 1999-era Logic.) Logic is inexpensive, not because it's second-rate, it's inexpensive because Apple is flush with money and can afford to give it away! It's still a world-beater application. You get *_far more_* than what you pay for! Please... Keep it real.
Dig your thoughts and there's lots to glean from your experience. Thanks. Having said that, being this close to the camera and moving your head as much as you do is actually nauseating. If you're doing it as an effect to keep the audience engaged, you might consider toning it down. On the other hand, if you have some kind of neurological issue that's causing this diskinesia...my apologies. Not trying to be a dick.
lol no neurological issue… just me being me. For future reference, If you are not trying to be a dick, just don’t say anything. This video gets a lot of views everyday so I must have done something right! 😂
So basically if Logic (I assume they will) implement analog behavior into their mixer and workarounds natively, puts LUNA in da grave… Thank you man for your review!

Thanks for your feedback! Yes Luna is certainly not the cheap rout!
Dude, This is an outstanding video!
Thanks my man!
LUNA is now native - no interface needed
I will have to make an updated video
This was incredibly informative. You just saved me $200.
Thanks!
If you want to compose very fast, logic, studio one, fl studio etc are the best. For mixing luna is grate but you can achieve all you're saying in any Daw
Absolutely my dude
Truth be told...I did a mix in Studio One...bounced everything out with all fx's...put the same mix in Luna and copied the exact master buss chain...Luna actually beat it out with the same exact settings...something is different in the processing in Luna.
If there’s hidden processing happening on the individual channels yes. Otherwise long debunked claim with all daws. Harrison included. Possible different presets. Otherwise it’s just data
@@ElectroPanPipes Actually you are correct. Its all in the pan laws.
Completely agree with you brother! Glad you liked the video. LUNA might not be for everyone but has sure been fun using it!
Interesting. I'm going in the opposite direction...divesting away from UAD :)

I think for professional flexibility that can compete with Pro Tools, Logic is it. Especially with the addition of Atmos mixing.
Yea logic is definitely amazing. Atmos will go by the wayside just like all the others soon. I don’t even mess with it.
@HomeRecordingNetwork Great video. It would be great to have an updated version after two years as some of the mentioned shortfalls may have improved.
I did one! But maybe I should do another. Thanks for watching!
Studio One is the answer
A lot of people love studio one!
Studio One has the best workflow, hands down. I've owned it since v3, but LUNA has the best sound. It's not even close! :)

Once SP3's multitrack output is supported by Luna, I'm switching over. It's literally the only thing it can't do that I need.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
It seems Luna has an input console emulation and an output console/tape emulation. What's wrong with using plugins on Logic to do that?
Nothing at all my man!
Luna all the way
Made the switch a few years ago.... no regrets. We need multiTrack recording for virtual instruments i.e Drums.I find myself using Ezy Drummer 3 in logic, then transfer those stems to Luna
I see a lot of people wanting that feature! I’m sure they will get it added at some point. Have a good one!

Thanks for watching!
Nice! Thanks for watching!
LUNA is definitely new and has to play catch-up! Thanks for watching.
O man, I still love the Apollo units for tracking even with logic!
@@HomeRecordingNetwork Sure, they work great. No way, no how are they worth the $$. DSP systems are only needed by a tiny group of people in 2022. If you own a 2021 / 2022 Mac, you can track / monitor with plugins ... no dsp required.

You may want to edit/re-upload the edited video in that section where you say it “requires an Apollo interface”. It is now free for all Mac users for a while now.
I had made a follow up video! Check it out!
Logic is better for what I do, I think Luna will be my next DAW in 5 years from now, July 2022.
Whatever works for you! Both of them are great options.
So taking a all.on consideration luna appears to be the Daw for mixing and mastering
Hell yea! And tracking as well!
Great content here. I’m a long time Logic user and am considering doing some work in Luna, having downloaded it when it came out and being an Apollo guy. Thanks for sharing. I definitely subbed and am looking forward to digging deeper into your content. 🙏
Thanks my man!
For rock/metal, the only amp sim you really need is the Friedman BE-100, the Suhr SE-100 or the Marshall 2203 amps. All of the others kinda suck. Anyways, you only need to buy one as you’re using it for monitoring.
Good point!
with recording tongs of midi/tb of sample libraries it is just not an option - but thanks for the info
No problem! It’s not the right DAW for everyone!
I am still waiting on UAD to make LUNA for PC
Ahhh yes… sorry they don’t have it for windows!
It's now available for Windows! :)
all you have to do is click on the track and hit option c for colors on tracks.
👍
Cheers!
What about the summing of Harrison Mixbus (or mixbus 32C)?
@@dirtyharry1881 I have personally never used it!
@@HomeRecordingNetwork There's a trial version of their Mixbus 32C (the high-end version). Maybe you could compare it with LUNA.
@@dirtyharry1881 That's a good idea but it would just take too much time for me to learn a new DAW lol.
I actually use both 😎💎
Nice bro!
Luna sounds analog and warm❤
Thanks for the response.
WHEN DID LUNA COME OUT AND YOUVE SWITCHED ALREAY
I believe it came out in 2020 😉
Luna sounds great but without being able to hybrid mix with my analog gear it’s still a pie in the sky at the moment. Luna desperately needs something like the I/O plug-in Logic offers. Why UA hasn’t addressed this by now is honestly just plain silly. They lost a customer as I’ve since ditched my Apollo and focused on higher end conversion with the Lynx Aurora (N)
Thanks for watching!
Can I open up Logic Pro an Garage band sessions in Luna?
You would have to export the tracks and import them into LUNA

instead of using a stereo bus to make mono stereo couldn't you just copy the mono track and combine them in a stereo one?
Good video I'm tempted to check Luna out (Logic + Ableton user).
A small critique on the video though, the nervous head shaking is really making me a bit dizzy ;-)
Thanks for watching! Duplicating the track would actually make the track stereo. They call that “mono stereo”. It’s not nervous head shaking lol it’s just how I am when I talk. 😂
Im really tempted to switch ! Do you have a video of the drum comping / video comping merhods you use ? For example i miss the feature in protools when you can set “play a head” so you can always preview a few seconds back when editing
Thanks
It’s becoming a great DAW. But watch my follow up video. I switched back to logic and only use LUNA for drum editing now.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork damn really ah ? Send a link please 🙏🏼
Actually LUNA is not the only one (or first) which allows mixing different sample rates. Reaper has done that long time and does that fluently. Only thing you notice is a little mark on the imported audio-clip in case you want to know something has been done. :)
Good to know!
Totally agree Maurice! Thanks for the comment
Saw you removed my post from the Facebook group. Lol can I ask why?
@@HomeRecordingNetwork 40 reports that it wasn't relevant and was 'attempting' to pull Logic users to use Luna instead. I had to continually stop the facebook admin assistant from deleting it anyway. Hi. Great video, quick question: how can I get an external virtual audio from Loopback for example into Luna?
Hey thanks for watching! Can you explain a little more? I am not sure what you are asking.
@@HomeRecordingNetwork I did and for some reason, turning of the UAD Satellite using only my Twin and x16 it works fine.
There are definitely some cool features in Luna! It just may not be right for you bud. Thanks for watching though!
im using Gojira and never had any issues. never had much in terms of latency either with 3rd party plugs. maybe youre setting your oversampling too high or dont have your buffer size set correctly.
For sure bud! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@HomeRecordingNetwork I hope that Spark, whatever that may be, will actually open up this closed architecture. Hope springs eternally :)

Thanks bud! Appreciate you checking out the video!
Luna is by far the best sounding DAW that's out there right now. I had e Logic and Pro Tools and my mixes on those two DAWS are not even close to the results of my mixes using Luna. My mixes using luna is so much easier to get the professional sound using Luna.

I have checked it out! There are a few things I just didn’t like about. But a lot of people love it!
I don’t think I was being shady lol
No ARA
Dig your thoughts and there's lots to glean from your experience. Thanks.
Having said that, being this close to the camera and moving your head as much as you do is actually nauseating. If you're doing it as an effect to keep the audience engaged, you might consider toning it down. On the other hand, if you have some kind of neurological issue that's causing this diskinesia...my apologies. Not trying to be a dick.
