    I'm 5"10, 150. Today I start training with goal of reaching 6"8 and 350. To put on 200lbs of muscle and 10 inches height, I will need at least 3 months. Maybe 4.

  • @subliteral1380
    @subliteral1380 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +237

    What is Joe not understanding? This dude is doing the ultimate in functional strength training. He exercises in the kinds of clothing he would be wearing out in the field. Training asymmetrically like that also guards against injury.

    • @kurzabel
      @kurzabel 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Joe doesn't understand why he is wearing blue jeans and heavy shirts to exercise, and why he is hiding his face. It's not to hide his identity, because there's plenty of video out there of him exercising normally, face out, normal workout clothes. You say "He exercises in the kinds of clothing he would be wearing out in the field.", which is true, but it doesn't answer the question, "why?". Why does he lift insane weights wearing clothes he would be wearing while farming? Does he farm vegetables? Does he need to lift 1000 lbs while farming vegetables? You haven't answered the actual questions. It's not that you can't come up with reasons for him to do what he's doing. The more reasons you come up with, the more Joe's question makes sense. Because Joe wants to know which of those reasons are the actual reasons. The only person who can answer Joe's questions here is Tom Haviland. Joe could have asked different questions, that you could have answered. But he didn't.

    • @kurzabel

      @handlsarelame No.

    • @subliteral1380
      @subliteral1380 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Why does anybody do anything? Of course, we can't know why unless he tells us, but we can still speculate. Technically, yes, I could come up with hundreds of random reasons for why Tom is training this way, but not a lot of reasons that make sense. He trains very methodically, and keeps detailed records of everything he is doing. That makes me think he's not just trying to get attention for doing weird lifts (like Kyriakos Grizzly).
      If this guy is ex-military, maybe he is trying to develop a program that can produce the most physically capable soldiers that have ever walked the planet. He was a soldier, and the types of training he is doing looks to me like it was designed to mimic all of the random shit that can happen in battle. For example, carrying a huge weight in front while dragging another weight from one shoulder (but not the other). Maybe you are wearing all your gear, and you only have one hand free to pull your buddy to safety. Maybe you have to move debris and it doesn't have anywhere easy to grip it (like a barbell), so you have to bear hug it like an atlas stone or a log. Anyway, it seems a lot more likely that he would be trying to create a super-soldier than a super-farmer. It just so happens that a farm is a really good place to build strength that you can actually use.
      The clothing just seems obvious to me. Instead of setting everything up perfectly so that he can lift his absolute maximum possible, he is training in a way that he can lift huge amounts under less than ideal conditions. He wants to be able to perform when he is uncomfortable: too hot, too cold, in heavy clothing, etc. It's another way to make the exercise more difficult, and it also builds the psychological strength to ignore discomfort and focus on the task at hand. Who cares what he is wearing? It's like those weekend warriors that wear full cycling spandex and ride a $2000 bicycle. You're not in the Tour de France, dude.
      If a guy says "I can lift 1000 lbs", and you ask him to prove it, but he starts talking about "I didn't eat breakfast. I don't have any chalk. I'm wearing the wrong clothes. I have a sore finger." etc. etc., then you probably wouldn't be as impressed. It's like when your jacked friend helps you move house, but he gets exhausted really fast. Gym muscles are for show; this guy is not training for show. I know that much for sure.

    "Jailhouse Strong" is a prison term. It means you are locked in solitary and have to use your own body weight and resistence training to not only maintain your strength so you aren't killed when you get out of solitary, but to actually become stronger. Some guys intentionally get sent to solitary so they have time to get strong enough to survive prison before they get sent to GP (general populatioon).
    It's a different world.

    It's true about carrying heavy stuff will make you strong. I was a strong 15 y/o and had a fire wood cutting job in the summer. My job was to haul the cut tree pieces (before being split) up the hill to the truck which was about 50-75 yards. The pieces would weigh approx 75 to 125 pounds ad I would haul them all day. I went from being a strong guy to being freaky strong, powerful and very quick. I was in a league all to myself at my high school for a couple of years.

    The reason he wears the clothing and boots is because of his time in the SAS. I imagine his mental state when lifting is the same as when he was on deployment. The clothing replicates the same kind of feelings he had back in the day. Those boots are very similar to the actual Australian SAS boots.

He ar about encouraging people that anyone can find a way. He wears everyday cloths to hide his physique so not to distract people from what he is doing and send a message to them that anyone can train. He doesn't show his face for the same reason, to say, this isn't about me. He isn't hiding his face so people in Australia won't know who he is on the street.
