Hi Jay, we believe that the R89 is amongst the best safety razor you can buy. Suitable for beginners and experienced DE shavers alike, it's expertly balanced and delivers a close and comfortable shave. Depending on the coarseness of your stubble and how often you shave, we would recommend pairing with a Personna or Feather blade. At £35, we think it's well worth the money!

Hi Brian! Can you please tell me which razor is better? I bought a Men Rock Double Edged Razor Closed Comb and I wonder what is the difference between this and Muhle r89 Grande. Thanks.
Now I can't decide, I read a lot about the Merkur 34C and how it good it is, now I think the Mohle R 89 Grande could be the best. I want one that can last for years and years. So I wanna make sure the safety razor can last at least the same time.
They are both excellent razors which should last a very, very long time! The main difference between them, is in the handles - the Muhle R89 Grande features a longer, engraved handle which allows for control and comfort, while the Merkur 34C has a smaller handle. This may be something for you to consider?

Only new to this shaving style as I'm used to gillette mach 3 and pro glide, many many years ago I tried one of those double edged razors I think it was Wilkinson sword and I nearly cut the face off myself, how do these german ones fare out for cuts, is it easy to cut yourself with them? I am from Germany and I am using the Mühle R89 Standard. But how can an expert recommend the Twist meanwhile it has an closed comb. The others are open combs and I think somebody who ever used an open comb will never go back to an closed version. This types can not be compared.
Thanks for watching. The video compares the three versions of the R89 (Standard, Grande and Twist). All three versions are closed comb heads. The R41 is the open comb version.
I personally prefer the 34c. I found that the R89 made my face sore. Maybe it was just the wrong soap! I think it is down to personal choice. I have the 34c, R89 Rose gold, EJD89 and have just received a Rockwell 6c this morning which I am yet to use. I also have a broad arrow stamped (war department)open comb razor dated 1945. That is good for taking chunks of flesh off your face!! 😫😫. At present my set up is 34c, Feather blades and Arko soap. I love the Taylor's but it hates me and makes my skin burn, even the sensitive one! You won't go wrong with either of your choices. The EJ D89 (Edwin Jagger) has the same head as the R89. I hope this helps. Cheers, Dave.
Hi great vid. Quick question I’m stuck between the Muhle r89 and the Edwin jagger de89. I know they are the same heads but which one would you say is best. Does the EJ have the same mechanism too release the blade? Thanks.
Go for the Muhle. As I understand it the top cap threads on the latest Muhles are made from brass, where as the threads on the EJ are made from Zamak and are prone to wear/corrosion.
This razor is terrible combined with the Derby and Muhle blade. Never provided a close shave. Perhaps I should consider testing it out with the Feather blade.
Hi Daniel, the MÜHLE R89 is one of our top selling razors and generally receives great reviews. I recommend you test it with a Personna or Feather blade and see how you get on.
@@ExecutiveShaving Thank you very much. I heard a lot about the Persona blade as well. Should consider getting a pack & experiment. That's part of the fun! Thanks again.
Muhle razors perform brilliantly with a Feather blade! I absolutely hate using Muhle blades with the Muhle razor. Muhle blades work best with Merkur heads...go figure..
Thanks for your feedback, we will look at this for future videos. If you have questions on any products you can email to info@executive-shaving.co.uk and we'd be happy to help out.
You should have mentioned the part of the razor that shaves which is not the handle, is the head: all of the 3 have an open comb design which will not shave all faces the same. This open comb is good for dense beards. Sparse hair faces will not do as well with this razor. Yes, it will do the job but at the expense of a few cuts and irritation. It is a razor for easy dense beards like yours likely with your hair all growing in the same direction but irregular hair growers will not do as well.
Executive Shaving bit you can easily geg an extra head. They are compatible. I started with an R89 and then when I got rid of my beard (corona masks should fit tight, work in hospital) I got a single R41 head and it works great.

Doing a lot of research on safety razors, about to switch from cartridge razors!!! Going to buy the Mühle R89 Grande! 😁
Your videos are an awesome help, thank you!
Start off with Personna and or Voskhod, they are mild on the skin yet very efficient. See the selection here: www.executive-shaving.co.uk/mens-shaving/razors/razor-blades/doubleedgedrazorblades

@@ExecutiveShaving Awesome! Thanks so much!
Hi Brian, I wanted to ask you a question regarding the performance of the razor. I’m a beginner to wet shaving and I found some adjustable razors but I stumbled upon this razor. Would recommend this razor for beginners that want to shave face and head, and can I shave about 4-5 days worth of stubble? Thank you 😊
I would opt for the Muhle R89 Grande as the longer handle would be helpful for head shaving.
Yes, this razor will shave 4-5 days or more face and head stubble with ease, the R89 head is mild shaving yet very efficient.
Thanks for watching.

Only new to this shaving style as I'm used to gillette mach 3 and pro glide, many many years ago I tried one of those double edged razors I think it was Wilkinson sword and I nearly cut the face off myself, how do these german ones fare out for cuts, is it easy to cut yourself with them? Past experience has deterred me but I'd like to try again with muhle.
Hi Brian, thank you for great videos. I have a Muhler R89 Twist/closed cone and it now is a three piece. The base plate broke off or separated from the handle and now I have a three piece R89 twist. Is there any way to repair this razer and bring it back to its two piece work of art? Thank you.
Muhle 41 and 89 best razors for the money. The twist adds perfect balance
Thanks for your feedback!
Hy executive shaving , i got today the R89 normal do u think that I can buy just the Grande handle and switch it ? Appreciated
Hi, please email us at info@executive-shaving.co.uk and we will try work something out.
Great video! Very informative.
Can you please do a video on your *top ten* favourite razors and how they perform from mild to aggressive shaves? Thanks.
(P.S what do you think of Geofatboy???)
Geofatboy - yeah good guy.
Top ten? That's a lot of info, here's a short blog on three razors for beginners: www.executive-shaving.co.uk/blog/post/recommended-safety-razors-for-beginners/

@@ExecutiveShaving Thanks for the link. Very helpful. Top man Brian.👍
Good review, but music too loud
Thanks for your feedback!
How does the R89 compare to the 34c? Thanks!
Cheers,
Dave.
I agree......I have heard that if dropped the Edwin Jagger snaps at the top of the thread. I own both and prefer the Muhle.
For me it is the Qshave adjustable razor but technique is more important than the brand of razor.
Lower the volume of the background music! We couldn't make out what the gentleman was saying.
fantastic video, thanks
Thanks for watching Leon.
Brian
You always want the background music to be at least as loud as your voice.
Lol
The music is a little loud, kinda of hard to hear you😅
Thanks for your feedback!
Background music makes voice hard to hear
I can’t hear what the man says, because the underlaying Music is way too loud.
Thanks for the feedback, we'll take this on board for future videos!
Ol have a same head?
Yes they all have the same head, the only difference is the handle design. Thanks for watching.
@@ExecutiveShaving on the muhle r41 and muhle r89 are a same handle or not
@@brijanjekodzonija985 yes same handle.
@@brianm1967 thanks man
Annoying background music
Yeah id say it's too loud
Music is way too loud, but otherwise good video.
Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!
The Grande!!
They are both excellent razors.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
get rid of the background music
Note taken! Thanks for watching 🙂
Not a patch on my Feather. It's like being born without facial hair.
Nothing is a good as the Feather AS-D2 range.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
1,000s of our customers have bought Feather razors from us over the years and almost every one loves his razor.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
Mühle r89 super!
Yes, the R89 is a fine razor.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
music is too loud
Thanks for your feedback.
the music is quite distracting. Your voice is great without it.
Thanks for your feedback Pete and thank you for watching.
too loud music
Note taken, thank you!
The music is unnecessarily loud especially for the hearing impaired. I want to buy your products but I can't make out your voice.
Thanks for your feedback, we will look at this for future videos. If you have questions on any products you can email to info@executive-shaving.co.uk and we'd be happy to help out.
I hate the shitty elevator music drowning out the man speaking.
👍🏻
Thanks for watcing!
You've got it wrong, the R89 is a closed comb razor. An example of an open comb razor would be the Muhle r41.
Thank you for putting that guy right and thanks for watching.
Brian
Executive Shaving bit you can easily geg an extra head. They are compatible. I started with an R89 and then when I got rid of my beard (corona masks should fit tight, work in hospital) I got a single R41 head and it works great.
