These hymns are the hymns of the church, gifted and entrusted to us by godly men and women to help us glorify God and edify the body. If as a Christian you don't feel any personal ownership of the psalms and hymns that God has given to us, there is something wrong in your religion. I like the original hymn better. The man who wrote it was depressed. He wrote the song looking for the Holy Spirit to come to him.
