You are a gift to those of us intimidated by the Instant Pot! You clearly love what you’re doing and you are such an awesome teacher! Thank you for the inspiration!
Ditto exactly!!!!😀 I unfortunately I only learned 25 new terrific tips... I already saw that lid holder trick in different video!!!😛 So yes, you have taught me so much I'm excited! Just got mine a week ago and have used it four times! I'm getting better every time.... (I'm almost a professional because of you honey! Thanks
I'm new to Instant Pot myself, and I actually learned about the lid and side handle from a fellow commenter in one of the 1st videos I watched, maybe, I'm not sure. It could even have been a review I read on Amazon before deciding which pot I was going to get, so I knew about it before my pot was even delivered! Lol
Here is my tip. Make sure to wash your sealing ring every time to help eliminate smells. Then put the sealing ring in the freezer. The freezer also helps with the smells but also keeps the ring from getting too stretched out. Something to go along with this is keep one ring for savory dishes and one for sweet dishes.
@@greenfairy4894 You don't even need to use the IP top when making yogurt. All you need is a glass frying pan top. Or you can get the IP glass lid. Do this when making the cold start method of yogurt.
Lisa, another important tip is to check the well around the liner that the lid sits in for any food particles or stray grains of rice that could prohibit the sealing ring from being properly seated. Sometimes that can cause pressure to escape and the pot won't come to pressure. Rice is most frequent offender here. I also wanted to mention that I take the 3qt on camping trips, I scramble eggs on saute for breakfast, boil water for coffee, make oatmeal for breakkie on saute, dump pasta/meatballs for lunch. I bought a small carrying case and I'm rolling to hotels, KOAs (Kampers of America chain of campgrounds) and tents. Last thing. Don't be afraid to teach your older kids how to use IP. I told my now 13 and 15 year olds that that's one and only appliance I'm giving them when they go to college or getting married. They already know how to cook basic stuff and most importantly aren't afraid of the pot. You did a GREAT job on the video. You are my favorite IP personality.
I never knew you could proof bread dough in the IP! I'm definitely trying that next time I make bread. The steam function is perfect for cooking corn on the cob: 1 cup water, steam for 6 minutes, then quick release the pressure. It's perfectly cooked every time.
I’ve had an Instant Pot for 2 years and thought I was a fool for buying it. I thought I’d end up getting rid of it. I finally decided to dedicate the time & energy into figuring it out, and your videos have been SO helpful!! I’m getting so many ideas for how I’ll be using it. Wrote down almost all of these tips for future reference. Thank you!!
Resting the lid in the handle - mind blown! Lol. Can't wait to try the eggs, and also never thought about using as a double boiler! I love that you get to the point, a lot of people would take 90 minutes to give these tips! Great video! Thank you!
I saw that too when I got my first pot back in 2018! I opened mine up and when I tried that found that my lid had no tabs and my handles had no slots because I bought a Lux. That's when I learned that there were different models of the IP! My 3-qt. Duo and 8-qt. Duo do have the tabs and the slots but by the time I got them I got used to not having them so I still don't do that when I could!
Another tip, I recommend purchasing extra seals, pressure release valve, and pins. I use colored seals so I know that my red one is used for poultry, blue is veggies/starchy foods, green is for things like egg puffs/hard boiled eggs/etc, and then the white/clear is for fish/seafood which I rarely make because I can’t stand anything fish and the only seafoods we eat are shrimp, crab legs, and lobster tails. If you use just separate seals you lower your risk of possible cross contamination and giving your family/friends food poisoning. You also eliminate the possibility of ruining food due to cooking something like fish/chili/etc and then cooking a cake or yogurt and it having the flavor of your previous cook release from the seal. Every time you heat that seal up and then it cools it’s inevitable that some of whatever you cook will seal into the seal and then it will release into your next cook. Especially if you cook something with like strong curry. That seal is kind of like your plastic Tupperware and you have certain containers that you only store anything that has spaghetti sauce because you can’t get that spaghetti stain out of the container especially if your family member goofs and heats the leftover spaghetti sauce in that Tupperware straight from the fridge as the heat just sets the sauce into the plastic. Hope that makes sense.
I just got my Instant Pot Air Duo for Xmas and was so excited! I quickly read the not-so-great directions that came with it AAAAAND... of course, the first time I used it... ALL went AWRY! I tried to cook a whole chicken (rather too ambitious for first use!) BUUUUT....I left the vent open while cooking, didn't deglaze, lots of beeping, button pushing, foot stomping, cursing, then cried to Husband, made him order pizza and threw the Pot into the cupboard never to use again! THEN a few days later, I stumbled upon your videos. The first video I watched was your Dos and Don'ts - BRILLIANT! I think I did most of your Don'ts on my first go-round - Wish I had seen your videos prior! (I agree with others below about keeping the music off and your technique is perfectly succinct!) Seeing these tips and tricks is going to help me LOVE my Pot! I immediately bookmarked your website ❤️ I have now taken my Pot out of storage, profusely apologized to it and we have vowed to become best friends! Thank you so very much for sharing!!!
I honestly cannot choose just one tip. I learned so much about the instant pot that I’ve literally had for about a year now and have been too intimidated to use. Thank you so much!
My tip has to do with recipes that have you pressure cook your protein for x number of minutes, then do a quick release, remove the lid, then add your veggies, and then put the lid back on and pressure cook for a few minutes more. I seemed to always have a problem getting the lid back on and turning it to the lock position. I did some research and found that it was because the lid and sealing ring are still so hot. If you take the lid to the sink and run some cold water on the inside of your lid (then dump it out), it will cool your lid down so you can put it back on and turn it to locking easily.
I just had this problem! I cooked one batch of something & then wanted to immediately cook another batch. It was fine until the steam started coming out of the sides. I ran cool water on the lid (and gasket) and it was fine after that. Do you know How long you have to wait for it to cool down? I left mine in the sink for 15 min.
I watched your don'ts first and now the do's and I agree about the music, you don't need it. You are adorable and so pleasant to listen to as well. I shared your 2 videos with a girlfriend who just got her first Instant Pot and I think this will enable her to cook tons of great things with it! Thank you so much! Now I am off to see if you have a video about the new Instant Pot/Air Fryer. Take care and God bless you! :)
That is what I have. I have never used the air fryer and have owned it for at least 15 months. I never took the instant pot out of the box for three months but now I absolutely love it. Thank you Lisa for all of your tips. I watched all of your videos when learning to use it.
Kristen sent me! I learned several things! I never thought about using heated water to help the pot come to pressure faster! I also love that you can order a lid for the pot! Thanks for all the great tips!
On releasing the steam, instead of using your fingers and being too close to that hot steam, use a wooden spoon to rock it from sealing to venting. You still can maintain control and change it back if you should need to, but it's much less scary to change it from a foot away. 🙂
You're delightful and so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do this. My Instant Pot should arrive next week and I'm quite excited!. When I was a kid, way back a couple of hundred years ago, my Mom's pressure cooker literally blew it's lid and I haven't had the slightest desire to have one since. Until now! Thanks for all the great tips.
Great video, thank you! Some more tips... Purchase another metal inner pot so you can have two. I use one for carbs (rice or pasta) and the other for meat and veggies. That way, the rice doesn't scorch on the bottom of the Instant Pot when cooking and you can pull out one pot to work on another. I store my second one upside-down on top of my Instant Pot and it fits nicely. If you don't have the silicone top, I just use a large round dinner plate as a cover. I sometimes just cover it, let it cool, and then put it in the fridge to portion out later on if I just wanted to go to bed and mess with it later.
Very helpful, thank you! I bought an instant pot and haven't had it out of the box yet because I'm a little afraid of it, so this video help just sort of give me enough information that I'm not so afraid of it. Glad I found your channel and maybe now I'll unbox the thing!
I was scared to death of mine because my mom got badly burned from an old style one years ago. Believe me this is so easy. Filoow the tips and tricks. You’ll be an IP rock star in no,time
@@brendaedwards6808 since I posted this comment seven months ago, I unboxed my instant pot and for the last 2 months I've made just about everything I've eaten for dinner in it! I love it! 😀
I was going to tell you which tips were my favorite but after like 5, I lost count!! Thank you SO MUCH for this! And I have to mention that you’re super enjoyable to watch... Quick yet thorough but also Happy. I’ve watched so many snoozers, it was becoming painful to learn. Again, thank you!!!
You don't have to use your fingers to open the steam release valve. Use tongs or a wooden spoon. Also, you could wear an oven glove or mitt, if you're worried about the steam.
+1 to the handle of a wooden spoon for release - it wedges in there perfectly and you can control how much steam escapes how quickly by sliding the handle. Spot on Susan Triangle.
Great tips. I never thought about double boiling. I use the steam function to reheat food in the instant pot. This is really good for delicate foods like pasta. Use a cup of water in the pot and a trivet. Put your leftovers in a heatproof container, add a little water or oil so the food does not stick to the container, and cover with aluminum foil so condensation does not get into the food. You will have to experiment with steam time, but you can start with 5 minutes for pasta or rice dishes. Natural release and check food. You can always add m1-2 minutes more steam time if needed. Vegetables may take only 2-3 min.
I make my my dog's food with the instapot. Your tip for shredding chicken with a hand mixer was genius!! I've always dreaded shredding it with forks. This method is so easy! Thank you!
Thank you Ms. Childs I appreciated you not wasting time and providing good instruction a concise way. I thought shredding the chicken with a hand mixer was a good idea.
Many of your tips were new to me, but my favorite was the mixer to shred chicken. I will definitely be using that tip. Thanks for sharing, just subscribed for more!
I watched all your beginner videos. I'll be ordering my InstaPot tomorrow! Yay! I love your videos. Quick & concise. I'm impatient I hate long videos with no real content, yours are perfect! Thanks!
Bought my Instant Pot about a month ago and have been debating if I wanted to keep it. I look forward to watching more of your videos and checking out your blog. Found these tips very helpful and user friendly.
I appreciate your videos, I have had my iPot for a few years but you were able to teach me things I didn’t know or had forgotten. By the way I really like not having music while you talk! I am a Senior and as with many seniors having any extraneous noises reduces our ability to hear easily. The same with any dialogue boxes, I find that younger people do not know how it feels to have info in gray scale.
Well done . You don’t need background sounds, just your smile and positive attitude. My beautiful daughter gifted me the IP/air fryer. I’m scared to use it, but willing to learn! Thank you for the introductions to this incredible appliance.
I am so scared of the release/venting part when we need to use the instant pot. Thanks for tip #19 about releasing in short bursts. How did you know I was thinking about throwing a towel over the lid to decrease my fear of venting?? I had no idea it could cause more hazardous events. This was my first time watching you...so helpful that I shared it with my friends!
My son (he's 21) is terrified of the vent, so I have him use the ovenrack puller I got him when I was teaching him to bake. It works wonderfully and made him more comfortable with using the instapot on his own.
I bought myself an IP for Christmas. I am watching this for the second time. There is a lot of information here As a new user these tips are so helpful. I didn't know any of them. I am a new subscriber too. (I found this video by searching how to use an IP.)
Man it's just so refreshing to see a tip video that is a real person giving actual tips, versus a sequence of Russian bot-generated nonsense clips set to peppy music.
Thank you I was considering selling my Instant Pot, not seing the use for it Now, watching your videos, I’m all excited and looking forward to trying different recipes 😃😋💝
The issue is usually the thickness of whatever liquid you are using... water being easiest to things like pasta sauce being hardest. If I'm doing something that has a thicker liquid I watch for the steam coming out of the valve then just lift up a bit on the lid, push down and hold it for 30 seconds or so. That bit of extra pressure from moving the lid up and down usually causes the valve to come up to 'seal' position.
Love the double boiler idea. I recently made chocolate syrup over the stove and it was such a messy cleanup. IP is so simple and very little cleanup. Thanks Lisa!
Thank you! All 26 of your tips were very useful to me. I'm still a little intimidated by the Instant Pot, but I intend to watch as many of your videos as I can. Thanks again for sharing! Wish me luck...😊
Okay seriously I didn’t learn one thing, I learned 26 things! You are awesome! I’m seriously instant pot challenged! So excited to watch all your videos because now I just know I’ll be able to use it! Perfect timing for TH-cam to feature you because I’m about to give birth and am gonna need these quick tips and tricks! 😃
I know and love my IP but am so excited about the bread proofing thing. Whoo hoo, especially in the cold winter months. Next: The pot sealing alignment tip, Ill be using that henceforth. You are a doll. See you soon. Thanks!
For me, using a wooden skewer and jamming it between the seal, works. That way the pressure is released reasonably quickly but it doesn’t spray all over the place.
Using a spoon is good for 2 reasons. It keeps you away from the steam and these pots are big and often under/close to upper cabinets which means the steam will get on your cabinets. This can ruin the finish or structure of the cabinet depending on what it's made of. Use the spoon to deflect the steam away from the cabinets.
I didn't know about the delay function. I've used a PressurePro for years with great success but finally got a 13 Function Instant Pot with an attached lid to use when I move into a tiny home in November. I am intrigued by being able to give up my pressure cooker, crock pots, and convection oven for one appliance that will do those functions and more. I had to figure out how to sous vide with it and of course, I'll give it a try, too. I am going to have to substitute some of the ingredients you use because I'm diabetic and since I'm only cooking for myself, I'll eat my "experiments" even if they fail. All of the tips you gave are good and I've read the manual so I know that safety tips are really important. Good job. I like learning.
I think one of my favorite tips was that you can use your IP as a slow cooker...but if you have extra instructions on how to use this function so that food gets cooked properly and up to temperature, that'd be awesome. I was in food service too long not to care about such things. 😅 The other favorite was the double boiler concept. I am sooo gonna have to try that. 😁
My tip to add would be to ALWAYS check the status of that sealing ring before putting the lid on, making sure it's really seated - it can droop out of position if you're not careful and prevent a good seal. You know it is happening when steam starts to rise around the entire perimeter of the lid. Extra tip: don't let this happen to you right when you're showing skeptical friends how great the Instant Pot is at doing Thanksgiving mashed potatoes. (Also, why does that little music go at half speed sometimes when putting the lid on or taking it off?)
Awesome job!!! I knew most of that because YOU taught me!!!! I’ve been following you for awhile!!! I just got a new 3 qt for an early Christmas present to go along with my 8 qt!! Thank you for being you!!❤️
A Boiled Egg hack for anytime you are going to dice the eggs is to crack all the eggs into an Instant Pot safe liner bowl or pan and cook on High for 5 mins & NR for 5 mins, then remove and dice the Egg Loaf with knife or masher or pastry blender. Soooo Easy! And no peeling! 👍🎉😃
OMG!!! Mind Blown. Using a mixer to shred chicken. Been doing this the hard way for years even before I got an instant pot. Thank you so much. This is GENIUS!!!

As a brand new Instant Pot user and a senior I am very grateful for your instructional tips. Great help!
TY for this tip. I want to make yogurt but heard the rings can hold odors and affect yogurt specifically. I’ll eventually get another ring.
For making yoghurt, you do not need the silicone ring. It works just fine if you put the lid on without the ring.
@@greenfairy4894 You don't even need to use the IP top when making yogurt. All you need is a glass frying pan top. Or you can get the IP glass lid. Do this when making the cold start method of yogurt.

Wow, there were a few I didn't know. My favorite is the mixer to shred chicken. I'm going to try that with jackfruit.
Unintentional Vegan Ninja mine too
Vegan here as well and great to do this to jackfruit. Awesome suggestion
Don't it will scratch
I use a potato masher to shred cooked jackfruit. Surprisingly effective!
It's great for shredding tuna too.
The heated water to bring it to pressure faster will be a HUGE lifesaver. Thank you!!!! And the hand mixer for shredding chicken??? GENIOUS!!!! 💗💗
thank you SO much, Shannon!!! - Lisa
Many of your tips were new to me, but my favorite was the mixer to shred chicken. I will definitely be using that tip. Thanks for sharing, just subscribed for more!
Thank you so much for subscribing and watching!! - Lisa
I want another instapot I use mine everyday!! I need one with the yogurt function for dough. Thank you So MUCH 😊
Best line from the video "Rockin your knob back and forth"! Love this Channel
I can proof bread...yes...I've learned so much. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I've shared too
Thank you SO much, Yvonne!! That is so kind of you! You've got this!
They also make rubber vent covers that direct the steam down in a couple of different directions. Cute ones, too!
Don't use diverters either, they're also a safety hazard
My son (he's 21) is terrified of the vent, so I have him use the ovenrack puller I got him when I was teaching him to bake. It works wonderfully and made him more comfortable with using the instapot on his own.
I just hold a towel an inch or so above the vent to catch the spatter…
Best IP video I've seen. Your voice and delivery are very pleasant and easy to understand. Thanks for the great explanations!
I bought myself an IP for Christmas. I am watching this for the second time. There is a lot of information here As a new user these tips are so helpful. I didn't know any of them. I am a new subscriber too. (I found this video by searching how to use an IP.)
Nice straightforward presentation!
Man it's just so refreshing to see a tip video that is a real person giving actual tips, versus a sequence of Russian bot-generated nonsense clips set to peppy music.
I am a Russian bot, I took high offense to this. Go frick yourself.
Russian?
that was definitely a goal of mine lol!
Thank you
I was considering selling my Instant Pot, not seing the use for it
Now, watching your videos, I’m all excited and looking forward to trying different recipes 😃😋💝
The same with me. She is really good and now that I understand the concept with the valve, I’m not afraid anymore. I have been using it all week.😊
Awesome tips - I had problems getting my instant pot to pressure but I think your saute tip is just what I need to do!
Love your tips!
Glad there’s no music and suggest you eliminate the side views. Love your smile.
The hard boiled eggs is reason enough to buy an instant pot! So easy! I'm definitely trying the mac and cheese hack this summer when we are camping!
Who doesn't love this gal and all her tips and tricks . Thank you for yet another awesome video.
Thanks!
Use a long handled wooden spoon when releasing the pressure.
Or the spoon handle that comes with it
For me, using a wooden skewer and jamming it between the seal, works. That way the pressure is released reasonably quickly but it doesn’t spray all over the place.
Why are people so paranoid about this? I just push it with my finger, and stand to the side.
Using a spoon is good for 2 reasons. It keeps you away from the steam and these pots are big and often under/close to upper cabinets which means the steam will get on your cabinets. This can ruin the finish or structure of the cabinet depending on what it's made of. Use the spoon to deflect the steam away from the cabinets.
...and on misbehaving kids.
You have an excellent ability to present your video!!!!
Love this! Even tho I’ve had my IP for a few years I really learned some new tips! Thank you
I didn't know about the delay function.
Love how to come to pressure faster, Kraft dinner, double boiler,
Fabulous presentation - quick descriptions, visuals and knowledge!
The 0 min cook time is a great tip!! Every time I tried to cook broccoli in the instant pot, was a failure LOL thank you! I love learning new things
I'm not sure I understand what that tip is about? Help?
Love the bread dough and your smile really nice to see someone so cheerful in this crisis even if the video was uploaded 4 mouths ago.
Tip 5 is a life changer! Thank you!
Thank you for the video… I am no longer afraid of my instant pot…. I am following you for all of your tips
Awesome job!!! I knew most of that because YOU taught me!!!! I’ve been following you for awhile!!! I just got a new 3 qt for an early Christmas present to go along with my 8 qt!! Thank you for being you!!❤️

Excited for your new channel! The sound off tip was my favorite!
Thank you, for sharing your tips and recipes. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Excellent user presentation, It's clear, easy to understand & apply. All you need to know.
I believe my instant pot is the best appliance in my kitchen and I had no clue about almost ANY of these tips! 😂💜
So glad I could help! - Lisa
Thanks for sharing the tips & tricks I did learn a bunch of tips... but I’m going to have to watch this VideoAgain
The lid holder!!! That impressed me and hubs!
OMG!!! Mind Blown. Using a mixer to shred chicken. Been doing this the hard way for years even before I got an instant pot. Thank you so much. This is GENIUS!!!
I had no clue about the sound or steam functions! My favorite tip (which I learned from you) was resting the lid!
Ahhhh you’re the instant pot goddess!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you so much.

Just received an Instant pot for easter 🐣 and this video helped me understand the appliance better👍 thank you
You’re right, this makes the beat boiled eggs with no fuss.
Wow I don't know which is my favorite. I love so many of these. Thug are really helpful tips. I didn't know you could stand the lid on it like that! I am also definitely going to be using mine as a double boiler and a hot pot from now on. I like how many appliances it can replace.
