Damn straight they're worth the money. Best damn sunglasses I've ever had. Theur customer service rocks too. I didnt get the email shipping notification and called their customer service number. An actual person answered the phone and I didnt even have to wait through 5 minutes of machine menu first. She even sent me a personal email apologising for my specific issue, which ive never had any customer service people do before. Compared with Luxottica (Oakley and Costa), they're customer service is amazing. I'll never buy another Oakley or Costa product, but assuming Maui Jim keeps up its standards, ill never buy another brand.
Really pleased with my Maui Jim's that arrived yesterday. In comparison to my Ray Bans which just darken the view with little contrast these sun glasses really enhance your vision with fantastic contrast, pop of colour and brightness with no glare. They are amazing. Glad I finally got a pair👍
I'm glad too! They are lovely to wear in the bright sun aren't they? I'll be filming a video about Maui HT eventually and that's a lens I'd really like you to try :)
This year was the first time in 10 years, I selected sun glasses that aren’t Maui Jim’s. I purchased Ray Bans. Although my new Ray Bans are a cute frame. I can clearly see/feel the difference in the lens protection. I had zero glare with Maui Jim’s.

Very helpful video. I am buying for the quality of the lenses and you have persuaded me that I am buying the right protection for me. I enjoyed your walk too!
Fun fact that many (including most of Maui Jim's own staff) don't know: If you use a heads up display in your car, these are some of the only polarized sunglasses that won't make your HUD invisible. This is because unlike other manufacturers, their polarization is either at a 45 degree or 135 degree angle (it's pure luck which of the two you get due to their manufacturing process) so it's not at the same angle as the polarization on the display and therefore doesn't cancel it out. I found this out by pure accident and it was then confirmed to me by their support staff via email when I enquired about it. I have no idea why they don't market it as it's genuinely useful.
@@thespectaclefactory Verbatim copy and paste from their customer support when I inquired (after reading conflicting reports online): "Thank you for contacting Maui Jim, the degree of angle of the polarization on Maui Jim sunglasses can be either 45 or 135 degrees this depends on which way up the lens blank is put in when the lens is cut, and unfortunately it is not something we can confirm on the individual frame, my only suggestion would be that you could order the glasses and try them, as we offer a free returns policy.

Have a lovley Tuesday Vicky Hammond ( Wiki ) Customer Services Maui Jim Sunglasses" I went ahead and bought some on the basis of that email and they work perfectly with the HUD in my 2025 model Audi S3. You can email them for yourself to ask if you still don't believe me.
@@thespectaclefactory Sorry, just to add: The previous reply is based on the assumption that you have a solid understanding of what polarization is and how it works. Just in case I was mistaken in that assumption: Heads up displays (with the occasional exception of Kia) reflect light horizontally off the windscreen. This is the same angle that most sunglasses have their polarization at. You'll notice that if you tilt your head at a 45 degree angle with most sunglasses, the HUD suddenly becomes fully visible. If your sunglasses have the polarization at a 45 degree angle in the first place, it has the same effect but without having to tilt your head. Hope that helps (and again, if you don't believe me then I'd encourage you to reach out to them to verify it for yourself but the email above is a verbatim copy and paste of what they sent me).
Hey thanks a lot for this video man, I just spent slightly too much ordering a pair of Maui Jim's and it was useful to have you to listen to to justify my purchase :D
Maui Jim are great sunglasses. Awesome polarized lenses and frame... but beware the lenses crack really easily. I've been through 3 sets and they just broke again! So I've got my old Von Zippers on again. They're perfect for reducing glare but only for fashion use but no good for action. So pose with them but then take them off to hit the mountain, slopes or the water.
Watched your videos a few times now and it convinced me to try a pair so ordered the Hema from your shop. But I'm really into variable tints and sun adaptive technology (and Zeiss lenses) so personally I'd love more videos on this. Brilliant video btw 👍
I love my Maui Jim's. The Puka is great. I have it in the muted Gold/silver, but I'm thinking of picking up the gray like you have... however, I could use that money towards a Jacques Marie Mage or a Matsuda. Leaning towards Matsuda since my name is Matt... 😁
I'm very jealous of you owning a Puka, my favourite ever Maui Jim. I'd go with Matsuda over JMM, as I just feel JMM is getting a bit too big recently... You might also want to try Robert la Roche. They use Zeiss lenses in most models.
I didn't realize how high contrast and low glare Maui Jim's sunglasses are until I tried on a pair and took them outside. Wow! Wish I would have tried them earlier, they're fantastic.
Great video! I love Maui Jim Sunglasses too. Different topic: Are you familiar with the german brands Mykita and ic! Berlin? Their sunglasses are also great quality, and both companies are independent. I would love to see a video about that, if it's possible. Greetings
Great review and thanks for sharing your thoughts on Maui Jim’s. Those lens colours you showcased make them really cool looking sunglasses 😎 Is there a preferred colour tint that best suits UK weather conditions for cloudy, dull and sunny conditions? Love the outdoor filming btw and really enjoyable video 👍
When I tried wearing this on the trial shop, I was like OMG this is it! a glasses with applied technologies since I love stuff with applied technologies!
Fun fact if they are discontinued styles they will offer you to provide you a 50% off coupon towards your next purchase…that is when you send in them in for repairs and they no longer have the parts available to repair
New subscriber. Excellent video. You should film outside when you can. While the acquisition of Maui Jim by Kering will probably result in better frames, I am sceptical about the quality of materials used, the location where they will be made, and the quality of customer service they have always been known for. I don't know much about Kering. Luxottica is my closest frame of reference. I do hope Kering's treatment of their acquisitions is much better than Luxottica. What's your take on all this?
Thank you Kieron 😀 I have mixed thoughts on it. You are totally right about Luxottica, but for what it's worth I find Kering far better than them, and I don't think Kering are trying to conquer the market (at least not yet). It's very surreal, as Maui Jim always came across as fiercely independent, and I also don't think they needed to sell out. They are only growing... but it seems everybody sells out in the end :( Kering are the best of the 'big players' in eyewear, so it could be worse. On that subject, I think the quality of materials will only improve under Kering.
I just got a pair of Mavericks I ordered off amazon earlier today, and I was actually kinda dissapointed. The only comparison I have in this case are a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators. The the nose pads were pretty wobbly like a cheap pair from the gas station. The lenses also were not what I was expecting at all. I got the blue hawaii lenses, which I knew weren't going to look blue through the lenses, but the last thing I was expecting was for them to make everything look pink. SportRX described them as amber which it didn't look like at all lol. They were much lighter weight however which was really nice. Ray-Ban Aviators are just way to heavy and constantly slip down the nose.
Update: I got a pair of Seacliffs with the neutral gray lenses that I liked much more. Not so much of a color pop, but definitely more than plain glass lenses. The nose pads are solid this time and don't wobble at all. Not sure why they did that on the pair of Mavericks I had, but I'm much happier with this pair.

I was on Maui Jim's website yesterday and noticed that a few models have glass lenses. That is a big plus for me. The photographer in me prefers glass optics. Am I the only person that perceives a much greater utility and added value with glass? Weight be damned! 😆 Like vinyl records, I predict glass will become THE high end for spectacles. Or maybe I'm just a dinosaur 🦕.

Both great sunglasses. I'd say Maui Jim are marginally better, but it really comes down to personal preference. You can't go wrong with either, although I have to say I do really like Serengeti's photochromic lenses
I have the Maui Jim glass Bronze lens for 2 years now, and after trying most of the top brands out there, the thing that sets Maui Jim apart (above all you have stated) is the anti reflecting coating. It's just unmatched! I bought a pair of Oakley's just a few days ago (which were too nice to stay at the store) and as the lens itself is nice, the anti reflecting coating is very mediocre.. Shame.
I watch a lot of your videos and I respect your opinions but I disagree. I've ordered prescription polarized sunglasses from Zenni Optical (they can actually make sunglasses that correct my severe astigmatism) and I had the opportunity to compare to multiple pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses as seen through my regular prescription glasses. I don't buy that Maui Jim has any special technology. Their glasses look fairly dull actually, and both the brown and gray tint were underwhelming. A metal Maui Jim frame also had lenses with inconsistent polarization which suggests the film was applied improperly or the lenses are too tight in the frame. I was pretty shocked that my cheapo Zenni Optical glasses with Vision Ease Coppertone polarization had the most consistent polarization of the bunch (inside a plastic frame) with the most pleasing and vibrant amber tint of all of them. The lenses make everything look like a vibrant warm sunset and the colors really pop. I really don't think Maui Jim has anything special except some trademarked words...
Thanks for your comment. To be fair, a Coppertone lens is a more specialised kind of tint - and if you've seen my other video my magma orange pair you'll know that I love amber in terms of the contrast and warm view it provides. Out of interest, what Maui lens colour did you try? And how did you test the inconsistent polarisation?
My experience with Maui Jim customer service has been second to none. If there's a problem with your shades, they'll make it right. Including shipping both ways.
Can you recommend a big MJ frame then? I keep returning them one after the other because I couldn't find one which is large enough for my definitely not large head.
