Just regarding bloating, some things I have found helpful: 1. I eat fruit on its own or before meals (leaving a good half-hour before I eat anything else). If I eat fruit after other foods I bloat (except bananas, which seem to be OK). 2. When I increase my intake of whole, plant-based foods, I bloat due to increased fibre and things seem to get stuck in my system for a while. Drinking plenty of water (lukewarm is better than cold for me) between meals seems to help move the food through my digestive tract more easily and relieve bloating. 3. Yeast-based breads make me bloat, so I try to avoid them (white bread is particularly bad, so I rarely eat it). 4. A magnesium/oxygen-based colon cleansing product might be helpful. I have used Oxy-Powder with good results. You'd need to check with your doctor to make sure it's safe for you, though, especially if you are taking medication (but check anyway). I was badly constipated in hospital after a car accident. Nothing the nurses gave me helped but Oxy-Powder worked beautifully to relieve the problem.

Whatever works for you is best. I am interviewing Heather of Heathter's Tummy Fiber which helped me. If you are signed up for my mailing list you can watch that interview.

Hi Chef AJ - I am loving these videos. Thank you so much. I have become vegan 3 1/2 weeks ago. I don't have a weight problem but I do have food addiction problems. I was very used to hardly eating so that I could binge. I know really bad habits. I've been eating Dr McDougall's diet and following your no salt, no sugar, no flour, no oil and all of a sudden, potatoes gag me. I am sick of eating anything good. Do you think this is like a detox phase? Two days ago, I could not get enough potatoes, now they bother my throat and they don't taste good. I want to cover them in ketchup or something. It seems like everything has sugar or salt in it. I'm feeling a little frustrated. Do you have any thoughts?

+Laura Lu It sounds like you are over doing it on the spuds! I get like that when I over do something. Branching out to a couple new staple foods like, different types of grains or legumes can re inspire your tastebuds. You have to find your own little ways of cooking stuff you like. For example I love baking a sweet potato for 40 minutes, and when it cools down eating it strait up skin all caramelized with sugar.. Sometimes a touch of cinnamon tastes as good as pie. But if potatoes are grossing you out, honor that and move on to a new plant food!

Of course alcohol isn't great for you...but it's so confusing when you read things like the French lady who died at age 122 who drank a little wine each day (and ate chocolate!) Also, it's very common in countries like France and Italy to drink at least a glass of wine with lunch and dinner each day, and they don't seem to have as big a problem with obesity like the UK, US and Australia. Oh well, they don't call it the French Paradox for nothing :)
