    Absolutely love it.
    Has never once gotten stuck despite the worst a midwest winter can throw at it. 2 weeks after I bought it, drove it through a blinding Ice Storm, stayed at a solid 50mph with inches of ice on the highway, half a foot on my grill when I finally stopped. Have never trusted a vehicle more in my life.

    Like you're channel. Elements are great cars. Come out to Oregon if you want to see lots of Elements. They see everywhere, which also contributes to Oregon having the highest resale prices in the entire country. No salted roads, (in the western part of the state), so the underbodies are really clean. I payed a huge premium for my 2008 AWD manual trans, but it's worth every cent. Bought it from the original owner, complete with full service records. I believe it looks as good as a new car. Go everywhere, haul most everything. It's a strong solid vehicle. Only real downside is the less than stellar MPG.

    I saw a video where it stated (correctly) that one of the reason Honda stopped making the Element was the demographic they wanted was not interested. 10 years after the last production the demographic is all over wanting Elements, so Honda had the right idea but the demand just took longer to happen than expected.

    • @josh885
      @josh885 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well actually its more like the interest and demand was there but the young collage age people Honda wanted to buy the car, buy cheap used vehicles in the 5k-10k max range and can't afford new ones. Doesn't matter how much you're interested if you can't make the payments. So it's popular among them now because you can get them for under 10K.

    331,000 on my 03 EX Auto AWD. Love the Element and think it's the best car ever made. Everyone who rides in it is completely surprised by the miles and how much room is inside. I don't have the rust issues you do, and I live on the east coast of Florida. I do have some rust starting around the top and the lower passenger side corner of the windshield though. Owned since new, only issues I've ever had are normal every-car issues: Swaybar end links 100k/200k/300k, AC Compressor 200k, Radiator 220k, Passenger Side power window regulator 140k and 280k, Serpentine Belt Tensioner 320k, and I've had a slight oil leak from the left side of the valve cover for the last 80k miles or so. Change oil every 10k miles (Amsoil), trans fluid every 100k miles (Honda brand), still on original axles, bearings, suspension, everything, and I've never experienced a windshield cracking like you have.

    I bought one of these in June 2020 because of it's versatility and could still be had with a manual transmission! For anyone interested in buying one of these in the "rust belt" or Canada (BC excepted), look very carefully at the chassis where the (rear) trailing arms are attached. This is the primary area of killer rust and the main reason the E's eventually get scrapped (if not wrecked in an accident).

    The windshield is very apt to get rock damage because of the angle. The headlights are terrible on low beam. The 5 spd manual transmission really needed the 6th spd for highway driving. The suicide doors are a pain in a parking lot trying to load passengers or groceries with cars parked next to you.
    Having said that, this is the best car I ever owned. Very low maintenance. I have owned mine since 2008. It is just now starting to need more than brakes and batteries. This Honda K series engine is one of the best they ever made.

    They’re going up in value because of a few reasons. The first being supply and demand. Honda never made a lot of this vehicle as they were never great sellers thus the reason they were canceled. So they’re very few of them which means clean ones are commanding a high price. Then you have the hipster situation. Hipsters score this vehicle very high on their radar because of its anomaly and their culture is big into not conforming. So that drives the price up. And then you have the camper conversion situation. Somebody along time ago thought it would be cool to turn this thing into the most cramped camper ever conceived. So now that’s driving the price up. And then finally you have the ones that were never really rust proofed correctly from the factory. And that is a significant number. The number one problem with this vehicle is the rear suspension mounting points to the unibody chassis rust out completely causing the lower control arms to literally fall off the vehicle. This could be in your driveway or at 70 miles an hour on the highway. There is no repair for that. And since Honda refuses to admit there was any kind of problem with the exception of Canada where the Canadian government forced them to, there is no options other than the junkyard. That brings the available elements that are rust free To a very small number and that’s what’s driving the price up the most

    Have had one new for 15 years my girls ride all black with black 18 inch wheels kinda cool. Well they do rust bad suspention parts too. I am a retired mech and have had to replace many parts because of rust Maryland car 1007150 miles lots of short trips. Starting to show its age some cold engine piston slap I am not to happy about it, eats tires and rear brakes, rear brake pads are motorcycle sized honda. I am replacing RF CV axle this week torn inner boot grease leaking out, I do service it regular. Might sell overall its in good shape, She wants a new bronco me too, anybody interested, in a well maintained element ?

      Not going to happen, a myth that's been floating around since they killed the line in 2011. Honda was stupid to let their marketing team decide whether to continue. It's still a strong, versatile desirable car that runs rings around the Jeep Renegade, Kia Soul and others. Those companies let the buyers define the car, not the marketing team.

      I wish they would. In 2011 they redesigned the CR-V. The Element was built on the same platform. The sales just weren't there to justify redesigning the Element too, so they canned it. In 2012 HR-V filled the space in Honda's line-up. Its built on the Fit platform. It is no replacement for the Element.

    I hated the manual - first gear is SO low - lots of weight, small engine - that I was 'rowing' to second gear before I was across the intersection.. you can start in ice / snow IN SECOND GEAR for both manual and any automatic ! bought this one new in 2004, 133K miles. Parts are available, shares drivetrain and engine with still-produced CR-V.

    Honda is bringing back the Honda Element in 2021, 1.4 Turbo, 2.0 NA, Auto-transmission, don't know about manual trans. Can't wait for it. Honda's product line has gotten so generic. No S2000, Honda reliability, with motorcycle performance, and the new Ridgeline please, my old one (2008) was so much nicer. I've owned over 13 Honda's over the last 45 years, but no Honda right now.
