- Thanks a ton to Marcos for developing and following up with this app as the IK team updates the ToneX software and pedals!! Currently, the App will not display the stored tempo in the ToneX One. If you go to a patch with a stored tempo, the App displays the tempo tapped into the App as default.
Make sure to check out my first two video to get the Midi Chief App rolling with the T1.
Have you read the Kirk Hammett interview on FretBuzz, yet? fretbuzz.co/
Have you seen the project that Greg Smith has been running? This DIY project is about a little piece of hardware that connects to the ToneX One. This thing not only translates MIDI to what the ToneX One understands, but it also powers the ToneX One (so you don't need to plug anything into the power port). Then, this little device can receive MIDI from a Chocolate or Chocolate Plus. No Android phone needed. And he continues to enhance the thing. He recently started to support parameter control (in addition to changing presets). The hardware device can be tiny and simple, or larger with a display! Really worth a look.
@@steveliberty I have! It’s brilliant and I am considering putting one together with a pi I have kicking around here.
Just got my chocolate this week. Totally lucked out in programming it with the cubesuite program. I may have to try the midichief app.
@@hereonmars it’s worked out great for me! Lmk if you do. Thanks for checking out the video. 🤘🏻
@DoubleDguitar you bet. Trying to figure it out, what does the midi chief do in conjunction with the chocolate and cube suite?
@ it allows the chocolate to communicate with the ToneX One via USB/Midi. Which has access via the USB input unfortunately locked out, from the factory.
@@DoubleDguitar ooooh ok so if we have the big tonex then no need
@ not for the app, no. The chocolate will work out of the box. The Plus version has some more programming options.
Does this just do preset switching or could you switch FX blocks on and off as well like reverb or chorus? Or even add an expression pedal? Does it work with any midi controller as long as you can connect it via cable or BT?
@@justinochoa7581 so far, we can’t turn effects on or off. I believe the publisher of the app has added a new exp control. I have to look into that.
Has anyone figured out the PC control codes for the new FX? (For use in the midi chief app) It would be really cool to be able to toggle through modulation types, for example... Or turn modulation on and off.
@@ramspencer5492 I put up a video about Touch OCS and a great template that works with the big boy, but doesn’t work with the One yet.
Hi d, how were you able to use 2 chocolates with one tonex one?
@@jon5546 they both can be synched to the phone at the same time, or also using a chocolate plus, they can connect together with a cable and the Host option on the plus.
I use a USB MIDI Host box by DoreMIDI to control my POD Go. It’s the only USB MIDI Host box that I know of that works with my POD Go. The Kenton didn’t work. Do you think it would be possible for the ToneX One to be controlled by one of these and a MIDI controller like the Morningstar or PirateMIDI to send PC messages to it without the need to use a phone and the MIDI Chief app? I have a TX1 on order so I will try it myself but wanted to get your thoughts in the meantime.
Also, I saw on the IK Multimedia forums a promising message from a mod that official support to help facilitate all of this may be coming down the road.
@@SeanHyland that last bit is something I really hope for. And yeah, you should be able to. The notes say for multiple device control, use a usb hub.
Can you tap tempo in the midi application? Without using the chocolate
@@jon5546 I was trying, but I may not have hit it consecutively enough times to make it register. I think you can, though. But my bumble fingers couldn’t make it happen.
@DoubleDguitar I installed midichief and it does not allow to tap the tempo on the screen😁. I was hoping it could do that, my chocolate has not arrived yet so i will be controlling preset changes via midichief app for now. Thank you for taking the time man!
@ aw I had a feeling it might not, and sweet! Let me know what you think of the Chocolate!
Where did you get this information from the app author? Also tapping 5 times is kind of a bummer :(
@@FabioStoppa he hit me up on fb, good dude. Also left a comment on the first vid of this series. Yeah, it would be good to just have three, but I guess we are lucky to even get this! lol.
@DoubleDguitar Sure! Many thanks to him
Midi Chief app list katana.
Any Midi Chief Katana gen 3 content?
@@zakklee2556 well we don’t really need to use it, since the Kat has USB/Midi control built in. Tho I can look into the chocolate and what it does with the Kat.
@DoubleDguitar Thank you. I was referring to MIDI Chief app, unless MIDI Chief app only runs on Chocolate. The Katana Gen 3 does not work with the Katana Library app. , only the Katana mki and mkii work with the Katana library app.
The Katana Head , Katana Head Artist and Katana Artist ..all Gen 3s, have 5pin din MIDI.
I was wondering if the MIDI Chief works on the Gen 3s.
@ oh ok, gotcha! I can look into this.
