Walmart's policy assumes you are going to commit a crime. They refuse to sell you a product you are attempting to buy legally...because you are "with" a family member or someone they "assume" is not eligible to buy (even though they are NOT the buyer) ASSUMED GUILT BY ASSOCIATION. Walmart assumes you are a POTENTIAL criminal who is POTENTIALLY going to break the law. Are you shitting me? No wonder people go around pissed at the world in this day and age. Corporate Bullying has gone way too far. Walmart needs to stop selling liquor if they automatically think the people buying it are criminals. ID'ing anyone under 40 is bad enough...But assuming a person is planning a crime because they happen to have their kid in tow while shopping is completely moronic!
I stopped shopping at wall Mart over a year ago over the receipt thing. I have discovered you can buy anything and everything that Wal-Mart has somewhere else in town and not Be treated like a thief.
yes, this is true. I worked at Walmart and they are cracking down on all that stuff. That is why I NEVER want to be a cashier. NEVER, NEVER,NEVER. They make you watch videos on it and they tell you you can go to prison or be fined for selling to underage people. It used to be that if a person looked under a certain age then you ask for their I.D. but now they say it's better just to key in the birthday then try to guess someone's age, that way you've covered yourself. and yes, now they have to be interrogators and make sure they're not buying it for their underage family member. But what people have got to understand is that this is not the cashiers fault or the customer service managers fault. They can't do anything about it. It comes from much higher up the chain. I would hate the pressure of being a cashier because people take their frustration out on you and all you can do is stand there and try to be nice, or call the assistant manager up front to handle once it gets too out of hand. I would HATE it.
Just happen to me at a Walmart store in Flagstaff Az.. My son is 18 and he was away from me, the cashier wanted to see his ID. because I was buying a bottle of wine, I toll him is was 18, he was not buying the wine... He is with you, I wont be able to sell the wine to you, ok I said, can he go to the car and I can can back by myself and buy the bottle? No, I already know he is with you... We went to another Walmart store on our way home, my son stay in the car... I got the bottle, stupid policy.. by the way... they need to let People know about this policy in big leters signs not the 4"X6" blue and White pbc sign above the cashiers where nobody looks at.
I am 63. I went to a local grocery store alone and bought $175 worth of groceries. I also had a bottle of wine in my cart. The cashier asked for my id. I thought she was kidding and started to swipe my card. She said no I need to see your id. I laughed and asked. "How old do you have to be to buy wine"? She told me 21. I told her I am not 21 anymore I think I qualify. She informed me that is is store policy to id everyone. We both had a laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. I showed her my id and paid for my groceries and wine. Then I left.
We all did just fine before there were any Walmart stores. We should try doing without them again. It would be a big help to the local economy and local businesses. On the grocery side, you would get better quality produce from your hometown grocers. For example, moldy strawberries at the bottom of the container, not many, only two or three. Same goes for yellow onions with rotten sections inside as well as Idaho potatoes that have yo have blackened/soft spots cut away before consuming the vegetable. So what does the customer do ? Try and return three bad strawberries, a quarter of a potato and half an onion To Customer Service. I don't believe it woild be a fun visit.😉
You think that's bad but it could be even worse. There was an occasion a few years ago when my boss, who was about in his sixties at the time, was asked for ID when ordering a beer at an Outback Steakhouse. The only one with him was his wife, who is not to far behind him in age. He did actually have ID on him, but instead opted to leave and never go back.
Tinny they won't sell you spray paint or cold remedies under the same circumstances either. I tried to buy some flat black spray paint for my trucks underbody with my 16 year old daughter present, and they woundn't sell it to me. I had to walk my daughter out to the truck, come back in, and go to a different register. No problem
I think it would be a better idea to drop a couple of the glass bottles and then refuse to pay for them because their policy says you can't buy alcohol LOL
"Policy" ------------a tool for non-thinkers to hide behind rather than trying to make a common sense decision. I'm typing this at the 4:00 mark. I hope by the end I hear that you left a full cart full of groceries on the belt and walked out.
Walmart builds in small towns, runs the local Mom and Pop businesses into the ground until the Walmart is the only place in town to shop. And to make matters worse for the towns, many times when they don't make the profit they project from these small town Walmarts, they will close several at a time down leaving the town with nothing at all. Very often they do plenty of damage to communities with their BIG CORPORATE tactics.
This is a perfect example of Fascism; the marriage of Bureaucracy and Corporatism. The self perceived ruling class view the public as plebes or proletariat and deign to address them as an equal.
It in the training. Everyone has to be carded if you purchase alcohol. They card you 40 or younger. The store can lose their license and the cashier could lose their job if they find out a mining got alcohol. The store is being safe..
As far as I can remember alcohol is swill to Tinny. In this situation, it would be like being denied piece of pipe from a big brand store with a plumbers license, when his apprentice was standing near. I wish you had other options besides wally world...
You could totally blown their minds by offering to buy it and then dump it down the deli sink and then just take the cans. That would've been a first for him.
I'm sorry I found this video 5 years later but I do work at Walmart I can tell you probably why they did this. So if the young lady touched the alcohol while putting it on the table they will ask because anyone under 21 can not handle any alcohol products. Even Walmart employees under age can not put away or touch alcohol. That's the only thing I can tell ya. Employees have the right to do that especially if someone did purchase alcohol for under age the company would get into a lot of trouble.
They have a lot of dumb policies.in sporting-goods back in the days when they actually had 22 Long rifle ammunition... They would occasionally ask if it was for a rifle or pistol. If you said pistol they want to see your carry permit. If you say rifle they just sell it to you. Now what good does that do you really? If somebody had a pistol they weren't supposed to have and they went to the storeto buy ammunition well then why wouldn't they just say 'rifle?' But if you showed any hesitation they give you a real hard time about it. And he said pistol and didn't have your permit with you they wouldn't sell it to you.
If she was under age and she with you and you turn around give her alcohol Walmart can lose their license and be fine. It is standard procedure for Walmart to card everyone.
That's a lie no they can't they tell you that because that's what they want you to think it's just a bully tactic they ain't gonna lose shit it doesn't fall back on any company it falls back on the one that got it so I'm gonna ask nicely please stop spreading lies no one believes that shit anyways
not to take anything away from you, tinny, but can you imagine the lengths that "corporate" must have gone to terrorize those managers to get them to behave in that manner?? that to me is the scary part...........
Look the cashier doesn't know her age so they have to card everyone. If he would have bought that beer and then turn around give it to her if she happened to be underage Walmart would have been liable for a third party sale. They would have been fine and the cashier would been fired. When you buy alcohol everyone one that is with you is to be carded. If you don't like it shop somewhere else.
So everyone should go hangout at walmart and carry no id and talk to everyone who is buying alcohol just to prove a point that their policy needs to be updated its 2019 FFS
This is ridiculous enough because Beth is 32. That being said, I often have my youngest daughter with me when I grocery shop and occasionally I will buy Beer or perhaps something stronger. It is nobodies business what I'm purchasing as long as I'm legal age. My child is in my care and I am responsible for her. We are living in ridiculous times where normal decent folks are being told how to live their lives.
Why 40? Isn't the legal age 18 or 21 in the USA? I would have just sent my daughter outside. Who's to say that you won't give it to a minor outside later on. Just to tick them off you could've asked your daughter to carry it out. Mwahahahahaaaa .You did well to stand your ground though. What a dumb policy. I wouldn't dink that Fosters anyway. It's crap. Take the word of an Aussie.
Ok. Walmart has their policies. You stated walmart was the only place in Town to get Foster Beer, and they provided it to you. So you had an issue with their policy. Go somewhere else . Walmart provides alot of jobs in America and provide alot of Fosters . So just because your feathers are ruffled you hate walmart. You can always relocate to Mexico or Russia Johnny. You drip of liberalism Johnny. Walmart helps pay your Social Security Check every month Johnny.
Well told story and you did what you had to do. But you seem proud of the fact that you don't drink and never have. Other people have their own reasons for not drinking and not wanting their children to drink. So what is so bad about a policy to not let kids obtain beer at big box stores. Walmart may have huge legal liability also, and they are probably the best judge of how they have to train and administer a policy given the employees they have and the environment they work in. Only thing uglier than someone peddling the same line over and over again is someone making an argument when they are ill equipped to do that. That employee comes up against someone who can carry a tune, and they will get mad and frustrated fast. The "always has been" part is odd since that appears to be untrue in your story. unless they have some arbitrary time point in mind, like since they last changed the policy, or the employees in question were hired, or whatever. Or it has always been their policy, but they don't enforce it much.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!
This policy has gotten ridiculous. Walmart needs to get some common sense. They are bullying their customers.
Ive had this happen to me at a liquor store not even a walmart.
So, Tinny. What does Walmart do when a father comes to buy beer with a seven year-old daughter at his side? She doesn't have ID, and she's a kid.
+coolkayaker1 They prob wont sell it to you either
It’s policy, and some states such as California enforce group id laws
State the policy and the law please. By the way have never been group i.d.ed and been in California since 1985.
I can live WITHOUT Walmart. Would not even notice its absence.
Wow! what a stupid policy. I agree with your view Tinny. Sometimes the corporate line makes no sense at all....Take care, Bluefin.
