Some tips for anyone wondering: For the basic thumbnail, a great way to add to the effect is to go to the effects panel at the bottom right and add a outer glow on the object overlay. This will greatly add to the effect and make it seem more dramatic. For the intermediate thumbnail, since the background is not black, you can give the character overlay a shadow to also add to the effect by going to the effects panel and selecting drop shadow. You can edit it however you like. You can also consider doing the same for the words above the character, however it might work better if you use glow the same color as the text. On the advanced thumbnail, I do believe that he skipped over putting shadow on top of the Strength effect overlay, I may be wrong, but if I'm not this does really help the thumbnail.
