In the midst of Japan’s “tsuyu” rainy season, Shizuka explores the covered “shotengai” (shopping street) and otaku paradise of Nakano Broadway in west Tokyo!
Nakano is known for the iconic 225-meter-long Nakano Sun Mall Shopping Street, with over 100 shops touting hot and fresh Japanese street food and inexpensive clothing. The covered shopping street in Tokyo is the perfect place to visit on a rainy day, and it feeds directly into Nakano Broadway, a shopping complex which has entire floors dedicated to Japanese subcultures like anime, manga, train merchandise, and retro memorabilia. Much like Akihabara, Nakano is a hub for Japanese pop culture. However, where Akihabara is modern and fast-paced, Nakano focuses on Japan’s nostalgic past.
Cheap and filling Japanese street foods are abundant in Nakano Sun Mall and Nakano Broadway’s depachika (basement food hall). In this video, Shizuka visits a couple of family-run shops including Oyakidokororefutei Nakano which serves up imagawayaki, and Umeya which has classic Japanese desserts like kuzumochi and anmitsu. And of course, when in Nakano, you have got to try tsukemen, the Japanese style of dipping ramen which was invented in the 1950s in Nakano!

so now I "understand" Shizuka. I was always wondering like why is what this woman does so spread out over multiple channels? but she's just the host and that's it. That's actually smart as there is regular pay, no rush to grow a channel and if the channel goes 6ft under, she can always apply for a new host job at any of the 30 other Japan related channels. Smart thinking!

I used to live there for 2 years and I had a great time living there. So convenient and close to Shinjuku and everything else. Best thing they have an underground music studio so I can practice drums in the middle of the night

Nakano was on of my fav places in japan! I dedicated my last day of my japan trip to shop at nakano! I bought so much stuff I had to buy a large luggage roller luggage there to put all my bags in lol PS: at the end of nakano Broadway there is a 100 yen store CASH ONLY that is great for buying soveniers for friends and family back home! And it’s 2-3 stories

I can't believe I just found this channel. Shizuka's food videos are the best I've seen. Already subbed. The only thing I'd say is that when she does her american pronunciation of japanese food, it makes me cringe. But I don't speak japanese, so it's probably not my place to comment. :D If she did personal food tours in Japan, I'd definitely hire her to take me and my wife and kids around!

Thank you. I love this kind of content. One of the main reasons I travel to Japan is for the food and pop-culture. My advise for this channel is please invest in a better camera. The picture is blown out and very washed. No color contrast and definition. It makes it hard to actually see details especially in fluorescent lighting.

Thank you! I mean that it's basically all ages from young to old haha. Conversely, some other areas like Harajuku and Shibuya are primarily frequented only by young people, and some areas are popular among mostly elderly.
This is the best place to buy watches in Japan imo.
