Changing the amount of hours doesn't change how much you play the game if you don't even enjoy the base game enough to play it. If big numbers is your entertainment you'll play on that server, for 20 hours total, max then quit. Entirely missing the point of the game.
The onechunk community becomes more popular every day and zanaris gives players a more realisitic way to play that mode without needing it to he a full time job
100% waste of time, even with leagues you get to a point where you rather go back to the main game for the same grind, there is so many incomplete projects like the fossil island boss with rare fossils. Forever sad about Maz leaving before it came to light.
tbf i think there will be a fanbase for that project, private servers have been popular since forever and still are super popular for alot of people, i personally won't play or create a server ones the update comes out because if focusing on my main, but the demand for it is there, i think jagex wants to out compete private servers and get that player base to the main game(private server) hence why they started shutting down other private servers like the one Odablock mentioned in a video
For sure there will be a small group that will want it, the issue is the cost. How many people need to play every month to keep them open? What happens if a server doesn’t meet that threshold? Maybe the first month or two Jagex will be ok with operating at a loss, but after that they will start shutting down servers themselves.
@@sirlexon5427 They won't just have servers running without being used lol, same with how any other server hosting company works, it will be used when someone pays for one, there is no cost of running a server when someone isn't actively using it
What they want is Minecraft realms/private servers. I'm sure they've done their research on it, but if they can get it to that level of customization, then it will definitely be popular.
After grinding CG for 300 kc to green log it minus pet (and I know that’s extremely lucky) I am fucking burnt dude. I can’t imagine doing it for 1000kc or more like I’ve seen some people have to do. That was the first time I ever did a “serious” end game PvM grind. I refuse to do raids or any end game bosses. The drop rates are just insane, and it’s primarily because of the open economy with the GE. If everyone was an ironman, the drop rates wouldn’t need to be that low because then there’s no economy to ruin. The reason prices have to stay low is to keep the GP value of the items high. And this is the main appeal of PZ to me and my friend group. We just want to play the game with better drop rates so we can do all the content and experience the RPG gear power ups without spending thousands of hours. As guys in our late 20s early 30s with less free time, We plan to play osrs the way we play terraria or Minecraft. Play it for a few months once a year then be done. I love this game but I cannot put the time into it that it requires. This is why I love leagues. I really believe PZ is the lifeline the aging playerbase needs to keep interest in osrs for years to come.
@@Mercurie3Yes, that's what Leagues is for. But now imagine that Jagex doesn't need to put in the creative work of coming up with Leagues, but rather gets to outsource it to content creators or actual players/group of friends. You get to make a custom league that will last only a long weekend, or a couple of hours.. or you can auto-start with the levels and items to do raids immediately, only it's much easier... Anyways, you get the point
What do you mean? ToB and ToA are both greater than a 1/10 chance for a purple, Colosseum you get an item ~1/5 completions, Nex is only 1/41 for a huge drop, PNM 1/113 chance for unique, and there are definitely more bosses with decent chances for drops. I see what you're saying with a lot less time to play nowadays, but I can send 4-5 hours of Colosseum in a busy week and still make over 60m easy.
Yeah the game was never intended to reach 99 let alone green log. The wild grind is what make it what it is. If you have the grit to do it you print money. But you’re suppose to just have fun and hopefully you get that big drop.
I have friends that got bunt out on osrs because of the grind, that i cant play with now. I myself just don't have the time any more to play for long periods a day. I want to experience new low and mid level content that got added after my account progressed past the stage of the game when they would be relevant. it would be nice to be able to start from scratch with my buddies every now and then like leagues without having to wait a year+.
It’s a good concept, Ark does this and it generates a lot of money from subscriptions it’s expensive to run and normally what happens is people will donate to the server to keep it running. It’s completely separate from the main game. But you can make some pretty unique servers that people really love.
Good thing it's optional and isn't taking away dev time from the rest of the game so the whiners can continue going on not playing on Zanaris when it comes out :) The rest of us will have fun playing on both Zanaris and OSRS at the same time. Anyone thinking "only 20" people will utilize Zanaris are just so out of their depth - RSPS are wildly popular and this will bring in all of those that do play on RSPS but don't want the risks that come along with that.
im a huge fan of this project and will basically dedicate my entire time to it, if it turns out how im thinking it will in my head but saying its not taking away resources is a lie from Jagex, its not a free project it would be costing hundreds of thousands if not millions to get this up and running. That money is being taken away from the budget of what? Rs3 definitely aint paying for it
@@arica8268 Only if you assume they were ever going to spend that money on the main game which requires copium to make that assumption. They were never going to spend that money on the main game - their goal was to always spend that money on a separate crew to create and manage Zanaris. A project that will fund itself. It requires copium to think otherwise.
as long as the runescape audience is growing, im all for it. the game should allow to have all types of players, cuz eventually the players will play the main game for the actual progression
I think a lot of people are missing the full potential for project Zanaris. The idea is to be able to customize anything, potentially bringing a lot of great new ideas to the main game. Personally I'm looking forward to potentially having servers where we can practice things like the inferno without having to waste supplies in the main game.
I'm a beta tester for this, in the private discord they said it's for revenue yes BUT it's primary reason is to try and take all the private servers players from them.
@@Wentr-z People are already talking about offering mtx in them on the side. If you know anything about Private servers you know they make 50k+ a month on mtx.
It depends if it goes the roblox fortnite route it could become way more popular and fun than before, me and my son both rarely play original fortnite and play on the player made servers. It could be big
That is true. However, it's worth noting that the original fortnite is not comparable to oldschool runescape in what it offers as a base game, fortnite is a BR, dive in, shoot, die, replay, osrs is a full MMO
Imagine you could make a server that is a boss rush world you get gear maybe custom gear as drops its not something you could play for a year straight but you could just hop in and play it when youre done with that there is a server list of many different types of modes that change how the game is seen experienced or played, but if they cant get tools to make custom content to the creators or a way to monitize it, it will be doa
You seem stuck on the idea that players need to spend as much time in a PZ server as they do in the main game, for PZ to be successful? I'm not sure it's entirely your fault for concluding this, given the weird focus the blog had on region locking. A great comparison for what success could look like is Garry's Mod. It's the epitome of a sandbox game, with lots of different kinds of servers. Lots of players still play Garry's Mod to this day, thanks to the many creative content people make for it. Mr Garry probably didn't ever imagine things like Prop Hunt or Trouble in Terrorist Town when he made his mod -- he simply made the sandbox which allowed these user-made content to carry the game's sales. With that perspective, in my mind, PZ definitely lives or dies by how much room for creation there is. I really hope they can accomplish what they want to with that aspect.
I don't think Garrys Mod is a great comparison. You cannot compare Garrys Mod to Oldschool Runescape on any level, adding custom servers doesn't really change that, especially when Jagex said themselves that they have no idea how they're going to let players actually create their own maps, bosses and content
@@KingCondor I think the comparison is valid, though. Not in a gameplay sense at all, but in how an offshoot of a base game that is turned into an engine for creation can become successful in its own right. Garry's Mod started out as a mod of Valve's Source engine released in December 2004 (at the time only used for Counter Strike: Source and Half-Life. And an obscure game not from Valve but that's besides the point), and about 2 years later was published by Valve as a standalone title on Steam. The Source engine's popularization through Valve's continued use of it brought constant attention to Garry's Mod, which became one of the biggest games on Steam, still to this day. The premise is (or could be) similar for OSRS and Project Zanaris. Lots of people enjoy OSRS, and Project Zanaris is a way to make a platform upon which players familiar with and who enjoy OSRS can make new experiences using OSRS as an engine. Much in the same way Source was used by Garry's Mod as an engine upon which people made stuff for it. In short, user generated content is a very big X Factor in longevity and success of many games. I don't see any hard rule reasoning why OSRS cannot also benefit in a similar way.
@1Psyblade1 I feel that if it was an idea that worked well with big grind mmorpg games, there would be other games doing this in this field, people assume I think its gunna be used by 0 people and completely dead which is not what I say. I know it will be used and people will develop content, I'm saying that people are over exaggerating how much this will be used and how big this will actually be for the game, it just won't hit the mark that Gary's mod does, especially when they openly say they're not even sure if/how they'll let players create content, at most we will be new restricted game modes for the time being
I wouldn't underestimate the ability of the community to make content. People have been modding all sorts of games for years now. I also wouldn't underestimate the ability of people to make better content than the developer themself. Take warcraft 3, when they gave the community the ability to make minigames, they became insanely popular, more than the main game itself. In fact, dota came from a minigame in warcraft 3. It is still played to this day, whereas warcraft has been dead for decades.
Me and my friends are excited for this, we want to start a group iron without starting over. High xp rates with group experience would be amazing for us.
I think PZ as a private server host is met. I think there'll be a few thousands interested in it. The insane part of PZ is the potential for sandbox player created minigames. Runescape has a great environment for any kind of minigame. Think about prophunt which just uses plugins. The potential with an actual world map creator would be awesome. I think there's a huge chance that some of these minigames attract people that would never play runescape or any MMO.
I don't think it's meant for people to play by themselves.. I can see it being fun to run your own events with friends/clans.. just limited time competitions.
In regards to Leagues, I love playing it, and treat it like a Sprint instead of a Marathon. I play until the last day. I was so close to Dragon Cup last year, so this year, I'm planning to hit it. Then again, I accept I'm probably an outlier. I just love Leagues. I like the Dopamine from the task system.
I agree with your take. IMO, Project Zanaris will not be for anyone who enjoys the MMO aspect of OSRS. it's for people who don't have the time to play OSRS who want to play it on a different light. Use their game knowledge and test it to whatever the tools allow. If they took from the RS3 team as I've heard, maybe the dev work on this isn't necessarily being taken from something else but just an aside. If that's the case I have no problem with it, but Jagex should be working on the genuine game. I feel like people were very iffy about leagues being a waste and now those same people be spamming I'M RANK 1 videos... So I guess we'll see. Lol
The only thing i want is graceful outfits colors to imbue with certain skilling outfits and shizen armour for lizadard men shamen. So the blue piscalarious graceful can infuse with spirit angler outfit for the fishing skill. There will be a graceful set that inbuse with gardians of the rift runecrafting outfit. The giants foundary smithing outfit can infuse with a colord graceful set from lovajange. Hosidius can fuse with either the farming outfit or the lumber jack outfit. The list goes on. Instead of graceful being fully cosmetic, give the ability to turn graceful sets into greater for that light weight extra effect.
If you have ice gloves in your smithing gloves you can infuse the lova graceful set into them making them act as lightweight graceful gloves for more trips at the blast furnace without using that extra sip of stamina.
I agree. Its going to be good for practicing challenging content. Straight to triple jad/zuk or wave x simulator, awakened dt2 bosses attempts for free or free Sol attempts. Other than that its just looking like a content farm for TH-camrs.
I don’t think people realize how much money is in Private Servers. There are communities built around these servers who pay membership and even have their own in game currency. Seems like Jagex is trying to bring these people back before sending the Cease and Desist letters.
Agree project zanaris should be a plugin if ppl want to restrict themselves like bronzeman mode. 100% this will just be used for higher xp rates and take away the significance of the main game
i know a handful of streamers who don't play MMOs who are looking to use the service to do a group challenge type thing and even have a community server but i dont see it lasting a long time. The service might be good for drawing new people into the game who are to scared to dive right in as they can have their own boosted server untill they feel up for the main game.
I was liking the idea of private servers cause I'm a pvm noob. If it comes out I'll probably end up using it to practice pvm and learn mechanics without wasting supplies on my main iron
Jagex knows Project Zanaris is a mistake and bad for the game. Jagex knows the players would vote against it which is why it's being forced on us without a poll.
I think using project Zanaris to host a speed running all bosses from start would be fun. Have 100% boss drops instant 99s once trained but start with nothing.
doing challenges is also way more fun in the main game as u can get some cool/funny interactions with other people and the whole eco system is still going on in the background whereas in a zanaris server it would be pretty dead
The only server like this I would be interested in is one where you start with max stats and gear and can just do raids. could be a nice way to practice stuff with better gear, or to play with friends who aren't as high level. But other than that seems like a waste of time
In my opinion, activities like sailing are a waste of time. Instead, we should focus on enhancing the current skill progression system to make it more logical and significantly improve the new player experience. Even implementing something as simple as a task list, similar to leagues, could provide players with much-needed direction without forcing them into a strict progression path. That said, I think Jagex is intentionally leaning into letting the community do a lot of the groundwork, which is both smart and something the community has wanted for a long time. This approach allows players to create and test concepts, while Jagex Mods can step in, refine them, and essentially integrate these ideas into the game with minimal effort. In other words, they’re getting countless hours of free labor.
they go into sale pitch style paragraphs instead of explaining things. Like theyre trying to get the regular person to buy it when this is clearly meant for bigger communities and content creators that will actually support a private servers longgevity. they seem so out of touch with "excitement" and arent looking at it for what it is. the biggest factor is going to be the price point. no way mems are $10+ a month on servers they pay for and theyre going to add more privately. i think this is going to be $15+ because its more of a demand on resources
Jagex owners see 10s of thousands of people playing custom rs private servers and see thousands if not millions they could be making extra yearly for just having their own.
I really don’t think Jagex understands why people play private servers. They need to make it so these things are 100% customizable. They also need to make it a host can somehow make money to be able to afford to keep a server up. They can’t just expect people to host a server and not be able to make any money.
I want to believe that this isn’t comming from the dev team but maybe corporate thinking they can get that leagues boost year around. This would just caninalize the main game
You and RuneScape post are thinking narrow minded about this project. You are comparing servers to main game. It’s better to compare this to games like StarCraft, Warcraft, and Fortnite. When you allow the players to manipulate the game; you get all kinds of new content. You assume no coders will be making good games on here but that’s foolish. Dota2 is literally just a privately made game from within Warcraft 3. League of legends is a copycat of it. One of the most popular games in existence exists because of companies allowing the players to make their own games.
I tried making my own custom games in StarCraft and it was far beyond my ability; but there’s still thousands of really good custom made games from other people that hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed. Both StarCraft and Warcraft ended up having more people playing custom games instead of the actual game itself
Just a quick idea that would be fun would be making all kinds of hollowed sepulcher speed runs. Not something we do normally in the real game; but would have a large audience of people enjoying it. Even better if we can manipulate the tick system to have more than just .6 second intervals
How can we compare it to starcraft, war craft and fortnite, when the main version of those 3 games are not even remotely comparable to main game osrs and how it functions, the progression and development in osrs is not the same as loading up fortnite or starcraft for a few games
@@KingCondor It's a game engine just like any else. It just looks a bit different. There are mmo servers in Arma, Gmod, Minecraft and every other example given prior so it is definitely a valid comparison.
I’m 100% against this update but just a thought I had is they could use some form of AI for people who don’t know how to program to make bosses or whatever. In theory you would just make a prompt with your idea and it would generate the boss
The servers sounds amazing until you break it down to its lowest level. If someone pays for that server they’re gonna need that money back. And we all know no one is doing that for free especially since we don’t know the player base caps yet. Imagine Boaty,Swapman, or any other big creater making a server??? To me this is jagex’s one chance to outsource the temporary game modes to the content creators and focus on updates that make the main game money.
If I could just make a league world with all areas unlocked then I'm sold. I play ironman so I dont interact with the economy and other players. Honestly not having to play around other players and their bots is a plus for me.
I just view it as a content creator server. it wont effect the main game, and I don't understand why people are against this. If you find it pointless, don't play it. It doesn't effect any of us who find it pointless. I have zero reason to personally use a project zenaris server. I dont play leagues either. I don't have the time outside of a single account. I doubt it'll take much dev time. It's like creating a separate server and giving everyone a rotten potato or dev tools.
Just allow a Permanent League World to exist just like permanent DMM, Speedrun etc. and allow Player to reset their progress whenever they feel like it.
Osrs devs stopped thinking of shit to put in the game and just steal whatever youtube locked ironwang is popular at the time and make a mode out of that.
I really wanna try out 2007 server. Because I joined in 2015 and really enjoy RSC, so I kinda wanna see what it was like. But after that I will stay in OSRS.
I'm looking forward to a learning server. Basically a place where I can go and try things without wasting hard earned resources. Outside of that? Seems boring.
While i don't see project zanaris living up to what they want it to be and yeah you could argue it is mostly a waste of time, them exploring new ideas for the game is pretty dope, osrs players are in a very lucky position as a community to have devs that want to explore and pitch all sorts of ideas for the game, even if they're ass sometimes 😂 but hey, still has to be poled right? Personally I'm really not sold on zanaris and i don't think i ever will be and i kind of wish they're were using the resources on other parts of the game that need it most 😂
I dont think that the main audiance of private serversis going to give a shit about the eco of the main game. Ive played the same private server for the last 12 years and I prefer the quicker pace. Maybe not to the extent leagues goes to but i see this functionaly compair to custom servers on games like rust. They have a hardcore following of players that prefer a private server over the pace of the main game.
I’m an iron and I’m begging for this. The economics of the GE are what forces Jagex to make drop rates so damn low. I wish they would’ve separated irons from the start so that the drop rates can be less miserable. I never wanted to be hated by the non-irons in the game. I just like the game mode man. It’s more fun to me. But Jagex shafted both sides of the aisle by making us play together
I'm a Project Zanaris beta tester, it's enojoyable if you have a coding background but, it'll be dead within 2 years guaranteed. It's going to be used for practicing zuk and hmt and that's it, no doubt in my mind. Shut down by 2028.

Thats what leagues is for my guy. play for 2 months then live your life and come back next year.
Or PZ and every few months or sooner with more customization...@@Mercurie3
Did yall forget games are for fun? Talking about time wasted and grinds... some people like to play for fun. If it's not for you don't play.
Anyone thinking "only 20" people will utilize Zanaris are just so out of their depth - RSPS are wildly popular and this will bring in all of those that do play on RSPS but don't want the risks that come along with that.
im a huge fan of this project and will basically dedicate my entire time to it, if it turns out how im thinking it will in my head
but saying its not taking away resources is a lie from Jagex, its not a free project it would be costing hundreds of thousands if not millions to get this up and running. That money is being taken away from the budget of what? Rs3 definitely aint paying for it
Time, money, resources, which could all be put towards the main game.
Saying it doesn't, requires copium.
21:20 If the main advantage is to learn the bosses, they should just release a practice server or something.
Would probably be way better
I still think this is better than wasting any time to leagues in the future.
i know im not alone when i say, if they get rid of leagues once a year i wont play the game anymore. Boring
@@suhhhkyleI think that’s less than 1% of players lol.
I don't like leagues but the player base does.. I'd prefer a pvp temp game mode that isn't dmm. Dmm is so dead & try hard losers ruin it for everyone.
player counts would suggest otherwise
@@Duriel321 *while league exist
as long as the runescape audience is growing, im all for it. the game should allow to have all types of players, cuz eventually the players will play the main game for the actual progression
I think a lot of people are missing the full potential for project Zanaris. The idea is to be able to customize anything, potentially bringing a lot of great new ideas to the main game. Personally I'm looking forward to potentially having servers where we can practice things like the inferno without having to waste supplies in the main game.
I've been playing private servers for 10 plus years. I'm so excited for an official one!
At first glance, this just seems like the easy way to "create" inflated content that can be monetized. Nothing good ought to come from this
I'm a beta tester for this, in the private discord they said it's for revenue yes BUT it's primary reason is to try and take all the private servers players from them.
Yea and nothing bad either can come from it imo
@@Wentr-z People are already talking about offering mtx in them on the side. If you know anything about Private servers you know they make 50k+ a month on mtx.
@@Mastercaped Jagex will shut those down real quick.
Original Fortnite is a dead tower defence builder. You’d build a Fort that you defend at night. That mode died. Not a great analogy.
@@KingCondor Gmod? Warcraft 3? Dota? Minecraft?
This will be huge for PvP servers. I could see a big pvp server rising up with
boosted rates/ boosted economy. Essentially log in and pvp
Make a giant condor boss. Protect from melee when it flies and it lands with protect from range and mage. Switches attack styles depending on position
Add in the BAHP sound effects, and make sure to pray rigour with a hard R.
Become a walking skilling power ranger with a skilling set outfit imbue.
As someone who enjoys private servers im excited for project zanris
Everyone acted like they wanted fresh start worlds and speed running and look how that turned out. The community has no idea what they want
Can’t wait to play this game with reasonable xp rates and without being crashed constantly.
You mean you DONT like spending 8 months grinding a 1/5000 drop rate? 😮
How many months at CG?! How many laps at ardy?! Yeahhhh project zanaris is great.
I agree. Its going to be good for practicing challenging content. Straight to triple jad/zuk or wave x simulator, awakened dt2 bosses attempts for free or free Sol attempts. Other than that its just looking like a content farm for TH-camrs.
Watch the last 5 minutes of the video
I like it personally, single handedly crushing private servers. I'd love to use this for little private league seasons.
Theres 2 ways this can go. Project zanaris is either gonna bury this game or its gonna be forgotten content soon after release.
doing challenges is also way more fun in the main game as u can get some cool/funny interactions with other people and the whole eco system is still going on in the background whereas in a zanaris server it would be pretty dead
I do like the idea of unleashing the creative ether, but overall I hate the rsps idea in general and don't think the community should be divided.
They should just do region locking in main game and if you choose a certain region you get some quests unlocked....
Im the opposite, I thought I would hate leagues (its basically a private server), now I wish this server was online 24/7
Without the ability to create new bosses, areas, weapons, minigames, etc. Project Zanaris is a massive waste of time...
Only use I’d have for this is Zuk training, and even then that’s a stretch and feels a bit cheaty for me.
There's currently 28 people in the dmm world and 5 in the speedrun worlds. Are we really doing private servers for 50people?
@@jimmy13morrison clearly not. thats why instead of player own priv server, just make 1 server have league mechanic and so on.
I'll try it out as a game developer but it's probably going to be years at a minimum before we will be able to do anything interesting.
I mean is it not just a ploy to try and get back the folks playing on private servers to the main game?
Project zanaris will be good for practicing bosses like zuk and sol
I have my non rs groups of friends wont try osrs becuase they view it as "slow". But they would gladly hope on and try a private server.
They still haven’t finished the desert or vampyre questlines yet 😢, but they’ve got plenty of time to waste on this.
This sounds way better than leagues.
Personally I'm really not sold on zanaris and i don't think i ever will be and i kind of wish they're were using the resources on other parts of the game that need it most 😂
Comment ... I asked a question and it was answered seconds later.. needed to know the website name
All temporary game modes should remain that way.. give it a year & these servers will be like speed running servers.
Put all irons on their own private server.
But Jagex shafted both sides of the aisle by making us play together
whats the browser you were using to practice?
They should use their focus on bots instead but nah ” lets do own private server”
I'm a Project Zanaris beta tester, it's enojoyable if you have a coding background but, it'll be dead within 2 years guaranteed. It's going to be used for practicing zuk and hmt and that's it, no doubt in my mind. Shut down by 2028.
There’s literally thousands of private servers, if they allow custom npc this gonna be huge in its own right.
How would this die if content creators will benefit the most from this?
@@Wentr-zYeah and about 5 of them have a playerbase that is over like what, 10? Def dead within a year.

I botted to 2277 total on my main account, so i have no care to give for this official private server idea from jagex. Ive done my work in main game
Trueeee
Just a waste, i said as much In the annual survey, hopefully it will be canned
Hahahaha fuckin summoning exodia 😂😂😂
Waste of time to play. This is just a way to get content creators content without random players crashing. It’s cool for a few days then it will become dead
second i saw this waste of time. worst thing was they said a new dev team would handle it. put them on shit we need fixed
Repurpose these devs into bot fighters, client finders, fix pvp!
Is this just so Jagex can monetize their own version of private servers?
Yes
It's just year round "leagues"
So we're not getting lost city 2...
How does jagex make money off of this? Will they host servers for a fee?
yes
Cash grab. Nobody cares about quality these days. Plus we gotta remember jagex got bought so it’s going to get worse it’s just how it goes.
Naaaaaaah, We can make an OSRS rust-style survival game hopefully. That will be so sick.
