GDay Max, really enjoying your recent shows, thank you. All your posts are the most genuine content in the machining category without doubt. So thanks again I have learnt a lot from viewing what you post.
Dear Max. My shop is so busy ad fun, A giant crane and demolish grain towers as wood, tin. A huge refit to salvage yards. nearby. I have been riding my big Honda twin as among the huge grain towers parking and industrial area. OF which your machine teaching to lesson, job consider is so fit for where I learn best craft. As among the salvage I found an original, leather cab Jeep as 59k miles. It is to visit my home shop as 48 hours. Truly, I should post the refit as to simply try for such content as machine tools. Max, I simply find joy in my 1935 South Bend C. I sort of try to find great instruction to thousands. I fix so many interesting machines and weldment, of which fitter, repair is where can be unique. I thank you for your superb posts as to best machine concepts. M. *Washington state, US.
Excellent skills on display there. As H&F Kewdale don't stock LH threading insert holders, I made my own, and use the Joe Pie method. I simply lack the testicular fortitude to thread up to a shoulder at the sort of rpm that gives a semi decent surface finish. Kudos to you mate !
G'day Max. Olga won't know what to say once you have made all these accessories for Her. She'll Puuurrr like a kitten. Great job on the threading etc. Great expectations on the Internal settings etc.
Great video Max! I'm also waiting for your next video on these pull studs. I think I need to go back to practicing reading mics though. I thought your .0861 was 0.886 (at around 47:30 or so). Thumbs up!
Well g'day Max, I recognise those nuts! Lol Beautiful work Max I'm bloody loving the weekend mornings with you my mate, hot coffee, thick socks on, and away we go, I'm up proper early, and your videos are the perfect start to the day 🎉 thanks buddy and have a great one 👍
On the original, looks like the reduced nose was a modification to fit a specific arbour? Nicely, and quickly done Max. Looking forward to part 2, ref rentrant bore 😮
Yes , i think that turned down end is not standard . I will leave it out & see if it effects how far the things screw in . The ones i have checked so far have been ok with out it . Cheers 👍
Hi Max, I would definitely have my foot on the brake pedal, my reflexes not as good as they used to be. I see Cold Chisel event is coming next week near to you, probably will hear them at your place. If I wasn't living 4000 miles away I would go and watch.
Nice bit of single point threading. Those pull studs are odd for us but being Russian they must have had their reasons for doing it like that, but they do their job.
I was thinking you could of drilled, bored and used internal grooving tool to do that undercut in the first lathe op. Can tell you've single point cut quite a few threads. You could have been a mighty gunslinger in the day :)
Have you tried using rubberized abrasive sticks to clean up threads? I started using Cratex medium sticks a while ago and they really give a nice finish. They take the fuzz off quickly once they form to the thread pitch.
Hi Max. Would it be possible to make these pullstuds in 2 sections? 1) the wider part made by drilling and threading the back part and then milling the slot. This gives you the shoulder/undercut. 2) then the thin threaded rod (it may need 2 different threaded sections) gets screwed/loctited (or welded) into the wider part. I have no doubt you will figure a way to do the shoulder. Maybe something like a t-slot cutter on a rotary table might work.
You have to be in the zone . Also you have to be able to thread right up to a shoulder with no thread relief , sometimes it is a requirement . Cheers 👍
Yes , filtering the headstock oil on the pressure side . The lathe has a separate oil tank for the headstock , sort of like a dry sump set up . The oil is pumped everywhere & drains back into the tank . 👍
why cant we machine this in two parts where the threaded shank gets threaded to the bolt head using loctite making it a single peice. I recon this will make machining far easier.
I think we all tend to think how we would address a problem and naturally think of our own preferred solution. This is some one else’s experience and take.
Nope, not watching for you to crash. Just watching to see how close you can keep your tolerances on several. Hats hard to do and does show skill at your craft.
Theme song for this one. How Bizarre 😂😂 th-cam.com/video/C2cMG33mWVY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3PHMdykhp9O0hTd- Two videos in one weekend & it’s not even my birthday. 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Come on everyone let’s all get on board and share Maxs channel, let’s see if can get him an earn from TH-cam.
Lol , Cheers 👍
Yes bloody good watching.no BS ..
It is really helpful that you shared your thought processes on how you are going to approach this part. Always great, Max. Thanks.
Cheers Rob . 👍
You're getting pretty good at this production work, you're in for a raise young man!
I will take it ! Cheers 👍
Greetings from Idaho USA Max. Love the work you do using the older manual machines. Always learning from your content.
Thanks 👍
Another great video Max
Thanks 👍
This bloke is an Australian icon . Better than the Leyand Brothers on par with the Bush Tucker Man . Absolute legend.
Lol , Cheers 👍
Up there with Russel Coight 😂.
Great job Max, and your shop is so neat and orderly. Wow
Thanks 👍

861 , the thimble on that mic sits just above the barrel graduation . 👍
Thank you Max!

Fine job Max. Maybe next time on the crash 😮😊 Thank you
No worries 👍
Great video max, keep'um coming.
Thanks 👍
...again, another great vid. lookin forward to the ' special tool ' build

Thanks Randy . 👍
Hi Max. Loving these videos. All the best, cheers 👍🇳🇱
Thanks 👍
Nicely done Max
Kimber
Thanks 👍
Respect your skills Max, nice threading job! At that speed, I would have surely dicked up at least a couple of them!
Cheers 👍
Waaay cool !! Thanks Max !!
Cheers 👍
very good job fried max
Thanks 👍

Yes , where they play is just down the road ! Ticket prices would be right up there though . 👍
Nice one Max. Enjoyed watching. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony 👍
That lathe must be a pleasure to use now great video max 👍👍👍
Thanks . Very nice machine to use . 👍
Brilliant. 👍
Cheers Stuart 👍
Nice bit of single point threading.

They must have been on the Vodka ! 👍
Yay another max instalment
No worries 👍
Cutting the thread upto the hard shoulder had me nervous. Braver man than me.
You need to have half nuts that release easy & are not worn out ! Cheers 👍
@swanvalleymachineshop you need more than half nuts....
What a cliff hanger can’t wait to see how you do the t-slot
Same here ! 👍
I was thinking you could of drilled, bored and used internal grooving tool to do that undercut in the first lathe op.
Can tell you've single point cut quite a few threads. You could have been a mighty gunslinger in the day :)
Lol , thanks 👍
Thanks Max 😁

Uneventful is a good thing when it comes to machining.
Lol , that's what i reckon as well ! Cheers Tom 👍

Never tried them . Every time someone mentions them , i forget to order some ! Cheers 👍
Try a good bit of hard wood end grain .. that also works
Thanks Max
No worries 👍

I think 2 pieces would be a lot of extra work . 👍
We all know you will not crash the lathe. Even while cutting threads close to a shoulder.
Cheers Rusty . 👍
Great video. Thanks
No worries 👍
👏👏👏👏👌
Cheers 👍
G'day Max 👍
G'day 👍
Olga is awesome
On first sight in this video she almost looks Huron-ish…..
Ahh . Huron , support table for a Bridgeport ! I nearly bought one once , but they do not have the horizontal spindle . Cheers 👍
What an odd set up eh, wonder why and how they did that at the factory.
Looking good though ! 👍🏻
It is a bit different alright . 👍
Bloody hell Max, I’m a nervous wreck watching you do that...............too damm close to that shoulder at times.
You have to be in the zone . Also you have to be able to thread right up to a shoulder with no thread relief , sometimes it is a requirement . Cheers 👍
Hi Max. Thanks for the video. I noticed what looked like an oil filter on the side of one of your lathes. Is that filtering the oil in your gearbox ?
Yes , filtering the headstock oil on the pressure side . The lathe has a separate oil tank for the headstock , sort of like a dry sump set up . The oil is pumped everywhere & drains back into the tank . 👍

That sounds like good idea.
Surely, Max, a better and more appropriate Russian name for the machine currently called Olga would be Ludmilla, or Lyudmila?
Lol , 👍
why cant we machine this in two parts where the threaded shank gets threaded to the bolt head using loctite making it a single peice.
I recon this will make machining far easier.
That sounds like a lot more work involved . 👍

That's what i reckon ! Cheers 👍
