What an absolute treat! Thank you Joe. Warren is something else. It is wonderful to listen to you tee up great questions and the responses be informative and entertaining. The stories you guys have are a joy to hear.
Gov't Mule might be the truest essence of Rock n' Roll out there, no attitude, no arrogance just musicianship for it's own sake and the pure love of making and sharing music
Good afternoon Joe from Lumberton NC, have been following this podcast for just a few weeks and I love it. Love your talent and work and BTW my favorite is of you and BETH HART " I'd Rather Go Blind" ,so much passion from you both. I drum do I appreciate you on so many levels. Stay safe and GOD BLESS
I didn’t know what to expect from this interview and am pleased to be astonished at the conversations these guys had… Phenomenal musicians and genuine personalities…
Warren carried The Allman Brothers for years towards the end. The combination between himself and Derrick Trucks was amazing. Southern blues rock at its best.
I discovered the Allman Brothers in 2015, sadly a year after they stopped touring, so I never got to see them live. However, I have seen both Derek (who I place at the number one spot of best guitarists) and Warren with their respective bands. In my opinion, Derek and Warren was the best guitar duo in the ABB since Duane and Dickie in the OG Brothers. What a total powerhouse combo. I personally don’t think they would have seen as much success in the band’s later years as they did if it weren’t for Derek and Warren. Luckily, none of the original members of the band ever lost a step and stayed completely on top of their game until the very end. Gregg’s voice just got better with age, which is something that is seldom true in the rock world, and his mastery of the B3 was always evident throughout his career. Butch and Jaimoe (and Marc) were still the same freight train barreling down the track as they were in the 70s. And of course, Oteil, Derek, and Warren remain three of the very, very best musicians you’ll find anywhere. So much talent.
@@dverygrateful1 I don't think Christopher's comment discredits any ABB members at all! I followed the ABB for years, saw 40+ shows, and have relationships with bandmembers, people in the group's staff, and their family members. It is definitely a fact of the ABB history that Warren joining the band and refueling Gregg kept the band going for another 15 YEARS, especially without Dickey Betts! Peace + Love.

Beautiful interview Joe. I adore Warren. I saw him UPFRONT in Seattle, Derek Trucks upfront in Seattle, Sonny Landreth upfront in SEattle, Clapton and Doyle upfront in Phoenix and ❤️ JOe, YOU upfront in San Jose. I made the pilgrimage every single time I was able in the past several years. I have been blessed by the best, thankyou all ❤️
I met Warren in the Chicago O'Hare airport once. A 2 minute conversation, but I could tell how considerate and genuine he was. Love this man and his music!
Great stuff ! Been listening to the Mule since the beginning, and I 1st saw you Joe when I think you were 13. Poor House West in Syracuse. Bought your 1st releases from your Mom. It's all come full circle.
In my opinion, this was the best interview you have done so far Joe. Warren is one of the more down to earth & genuine musicians out there, not to mention one of the more talented. Thanks for this one.
Not only is Warren Haynes possibly the hardest working guy in the music industry, he might also be the nicest. I've met him a few times and he always makes sure he has time to speak with fans. He is always humble, always respectful and always professional. I first saw him perform in 1989 with the Allmans and have seen him dozens of times over the years in every setting imaginable. He is a man who never forgot his roots... Not only that, but Warren most likely knows more songs and has played with more people than any musician alive. That's not an exaggeration either. He has probably performed a couple thousand different songs live and played with literally hundreds of amazing musicians from every genre of music. How many players can perform songs by Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath, Tower of Power, Miles Davis, and Bob Marley all in the same show? Not many... He has also written dozens of incredible originals with Govt Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh and of course solo material. The man, the myth, the legend...Warren Haynes! Thanks Joe! You did great!
Wow...what a treat...Warren Haynes and Joe....I could listen for days...Joe has amazingly good interview skills....He is so well informed...Thank you for this treasure!
Warren is the full package. His guitar playing is second to none just as much as his singing and song writing. What a talent... Been listening to Govt Mule since Life Before Insanity... Life changing record... Thanks Warren for all the great songs. Thanks Joe for inviting us onto Nerville and let us into this superb conversations you have with your pals.
GREAT Interview...Particularly the Tonight Show stuff with the chart reading fools....In the 90's I was buying paint on a very hot summer's day at a now closed paint store right next door to the Musicians Union on Vine in Hollywood. As I'm putting the paint in my car all of a sudden I hear what sounds like the world's best stereo playing this amazing big band music. I follow the sound and it was a big band rehearsing for some charity event. On hot days they opened the doors to let in some breeze - or maybe being the weekend the ac was off? These old guys ( I leaned later many were the guys who worked in the Tonight Show Band) were WAILING.But the cool thing was this is in a rundown very Hispanic neighborhood and the music attracted a bunch of little ¬latin kids just awe struck by the great music - some were even jitterbugging and loving the great music.t was like a scene from a Fellini movie....
Looking forward to this one. Met Warren out side the ritz in Manchester,uk. After his gig. He was more than happy to shake hands sign things and talk about amps until we had our fill. Top bloke.
Warren Haynes is a great human being, you can sense the love of GOD in him by his demeanor and his stories. I love the story about Don Rickles saying to Greg Allman when taking a picture with him, “ I talked to Cher and it looks like I will be getting some of your furniture. “ LOL I ask Sonny Landreth about playing with Warren a couple of years ago and he told me that Warren Haynes is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to music, he said he knows more songs and remembers more lyrics than anyone he knows. Warren is a great musician and always does such a great job with every performance no matter what genre of music he is playing. I think this is your best interview Joe, fantastic job and great story content.
Awesome interview! I got to see Warren 3 times with The Allman Brothers in the late 80’s- early 90’s when I was living in Ga.He was awesome every time! Always cool to see when artists you admire have such great personalities. Thanks for letting us in! 👍🏻
I loved this. Especially the last ten minutes. Some of my favorite memories involve Warren Haynes, and hearing some of his favorite memories from the road was priceless.
Joe, thank you for doing this. I haven't seen the other episodes yet, but I will. I have loved Warren Haynes for a very long time. I saw the first come back tour of the Allman Brothers front row and I was blown away. I saw Govt Mule open up the Beale Street music festival touring for their second album Dose and again I was blown away. He is a class act as are you. Again thanks for doing this and keep on doing them it helps pass the time shacked up at home.
Two or my favorite musicians together, shooting the breeze and just letting us see behind the curtain for an hour! Doesn't get better than that, 🎸100%.
Many years ago we had a garage band in our small town and we would practice at my cousin's house. There was this guy that moved there about 4 years prior that used to come and listen to us play. He was always talking about his brother playing guitar. Well, as you know if you play in a band you hear this all the time and you always go, "Cool" and blow it off. Well a few years later the guy met up with my cousin again and said he had some backstage passes to a concert where is brother was playing and asked if he wanted one. My cousin asked what was the name of the band. He said, "The Allman Brothers Band, ever heard of them?" He almost fainted. The guy we'd blown off a few times brother was Warren Haynes.
Are you a native North Carolinian? Wonderful story…loved it!!! Have always thought nobody tells a story better than a native North Carolinian! There is a special talent!
@@M._Lou No Cajun. People from the south have a nack for telling stories. I have to pull myself back sometimes because nearly everything triggers a story from my growing up. :)
I will never forget the first time and only time I saw the Allmans. 1993 Laguna Seca Daze outside Monterey, CA where coincidentally I saw SRV 8 years before (grew up down the highway) and I was front row 23 years old drunk on beer and I was air guitaring hard core and Warren just looked down and smiled at me. I will never forget that. Seen the Mule at least 10 times. Funny enough, my grandmother who passed away a few years ago at 97 told me about all the hippies at the Monterey Pop Festival. Man, I love music!
Warren is one of the absolute best. One can listen to him playing and singing for hours, musical style and vibe no bar - he can do pretty much everything!
It is so cool to listen to these great guitar players and share the passion for guitars and Blues. JB always ask all the right questions , I love all the stories
I appreciate this interview... how cool that Warren shared so much about himself. Great to see more of his personality and could listen to him go on and on... very interesting human being... and a gifted guitarist!
