If you don't want to water your grass or have a lawnmower and have to buy gas for it, fake sod is better. it pays for itself overtime. Also you can get used artificial turf for .50 per square foot from Artificial Grass Liquidators in California. I did and my lawn looks great. I am not a yard person at all and for me this was the best choice!
Here in Southern California, I saw a roll of 5' x 10' at Home Depot going for $188. They also sell a bigger roll (7.5' x 13') that goes for $348 a roll - comes out to $3.57 a square foot. I saw the product in person, and they have different types - they have one that has a little bit of yellow/thatchy grass that looks more like real grass. I'm just wondering how long it will last, and how the drainage is with this installation system. -Mark
I purchased our turf through Home Depot. Everything went well, however when it is hot outside the turf has wrinkles. I have considered stretching it but fear it will pull away from the edges when it is cold. I have not put the fill material in the turf yet and think that may solve the problem, but I am fearful that if it doesn't solve the problem it would be very difficult to stretch the turf at that point. I have the turf nailed down on the perimeter as well as the field. Please advise. Russ
+Jennifer Barker I imagine you have solved this by now but if not feel free to write me i could offer some advice. Been working at a artificial lawn company for 6 years.
They installed it cold and didnt stretch or allow to acclimate for a bit while sun was out before installing it. If it was cold/cooler out and they cut it and pinned it down for install, once it gets hot it wants to expand, and since its cut and nailed down, it will wrinkle up. Sloppy install.
as said before me- if you haven't solved it (this is for others who read your question too). now that's its been laid out- re stretch it since is been aired out long enough, re nail it, and use the infill. That is all if correct if you did lay down the proper sub base layer/s... if not it prolly wont happen as bad with the infill and re stretch but the shrinking can be from clay and basic dirt... which is why you prep with a sub base to minimize or completely eliminate that possibility.
I have a dog; if the dog goes #2 on artificial turf, is it hard to clean up...we can try to train and the dog may not take well to artificial turf, but you know its going to happen.....How will the turf hold up with some occasional pee or poo if any? If there is an accident, what is the clean-up procedure? What chemical would you not use (bleach...ammonia cleansers etc...).
I have 2 Mastiffs, 1 doberman, and 3 mini Schnauzers, they all use the grass. It cleans up easy. I also keep a pump sprayer with dilute simple green or dilute bleach and spray it down and wash once a week
I'm thinking about getting the 15 width for $37.20 linear ft at home depot. Do you really need to buy subsoil what if i already have a big dirt area flattened out? im just wondering if that would save me money. i dont see why i need to buy subsoil if its already flattened out dirt area. let me know when you can?
What these guys said for sure. Like everything done well, the real work is in the preparation. You can save money and get by with short cuts but if you're going to spend that much on the turf do you really want to install it improperly and risk imperfections or future issues that might cause you to redo the turf? I suggest going the distance the first time every time. Commit to perfection or commit to sub par. No matter what project you do, you should always do it right. There are reasons why it's done that way.

Nice easy rectangle area there Home Depot. But, try measuring a large area and purchasing the correct amount of turf to fit a non-proportional area with meandering arcs and curves, having to cut across the stitching for the 1st time in order not to have 50% wasted turf. This certainly would have been helpful. Everything else is a no brainer.
The grass is an easy to keep the are cool and clean - but surrounded by all that rock a heat generating substance, doesn't anybody have any imagination anymore.
it goes between the blades to help keep them upright and also the weight keeps it from getting bubbles, waves and being scooted around like a rug on the floor
prolly decomposed granite quarter minus. can be pricy though. many people use 2 grades to cut costs though. large grade 1-2 then the top layer as quarter minus.
Last week we purchace carabao frog but is not grow only 20percent have and its very expensive waste of money,i guess carabao grass is better or peanut vine
Bad install and the crew lacked basic install tools... looked like another fly by night company.Ugly cheap grass as well. Im getting ready to do 1800sqft... if I did this I would be in a lot of trouble and prolly bed ridden for a few days with their methods.
Jacob S. I agree, very shitty work. Might look decent on video and when new but a close look will uncover flaws and this won’t withstand the test of time
+Rudy Gallus Its an extremely cheap synthetic grass. You can tell by the looks obviously and the fact they are putting a infill in it like the silica sand to keep it standing up. Good synthetic lawn products dont use infill at all. This is some pretty shitty stuff.
I agree about the bad quality from HD and it's $3 psf. It is made in China. The infill free turf costs a lot more than this landscaping turf. I have used, top quality football and soccer field turf at 80% off of new prices. All used turf is made in USA and usually includes rubber infill. Most of my inventory is on the East coast. 3two3/6OI-TURF
I need this. My damn dog pooped and pissed all over my real grass and killed it before moving on to my Persian rug. Already replaced the dog but now I need to replace the grass. Real grass is a beast to maintain!

Hooray, they now have their own cancer causing pool. Why are people putting on petroleum products in their homes voluntarily. I have old fake grass that looks butt ugly

Great video very informative. Hope you don't mind if I share it with our online shoppers.
What type of sand was the base? Looks to be select fill. 5:09 5:09
Is that a normal sand used to make a base ?
No

Its water smart and no maintenance. But as a Landscapet in L.A nothing like marathon sod. As long as you know how to take care of it. Your good

Jennifer Barker Did you use gravel as a sub base? Properly done sub base will help minimize expansion and contraction to help avoid this problem

Doug, yes you can, make sure it is level and compacted
A MILLION views… Really? @2:44 should be on a loop. Thanks for the weird-ass music.
Very curious the face impressed in the sub-base just in the center of shot, then openly deleted by hand. It remembers a certain ObL.

Why you added silica sand on the top turf
Nice video, where u get that black framing stuff at? Only found the flat 3 inch backing board at home depot?
Thanks for vid
pretty cool clean up good for dogs pee and poop?

it's better to put the substrate down for draining and a better base.

If you put down on dirt, you will grow mold and mildew underneath it.

Whats that black liner thing called??? I see its can be bent.
excelente video. una pregunta esto sirve para canchas de fútbol?. saludos
This video is the first ever install of artificial grass, first ever roll out the factory and onto some dirt, i think it was John Wayne's back yard.

Carmel Neagle I have never seen a rock "generate" heat. : )
If I can ask, how much did this cost -- or how much did the turf cost all together?
Hola amigos una consulta
What's the purpose of adding silica sand?
it goes between the blades to help keep them upright and also the weight keeps it from getting bubbles, waves and being scooted around like a rug on the floor
no plate compactor? must suck hand tamping everywhere
They used a roller.
This is much easier , because its so simple, dont need any mechine
lol love the background music too good
Good job. Fortunate that no seams had to be joined.
what is the sub-base?
prolly decomposed granite quarter minus. can be pricy though. many people use 2 grades to cut costs though. large grade 1-2 then the top layer as quarter minus.
Save trees 🌳🌴🌳🌴
Last week we purchace carabao frog but is not grow only 20percent have and its very expensive waste of money,i guess carabao grass is better or peanut vine
Janet, you do realize that this is Artificial Grass, right? No growing will happen. lol
No weed membrane ??????
What about the weed stopping membrane? All you did was put sand on top of dirt!
Wingster Rod some of the turf already has the weed protection layer
Thunder Up 405 Weeds can still migrate through the drainage holes in the turf
