This game... easily one of my all-time favourite games from Capcom and/or for the Sega Genesis (which is the version I played back in the day), and overall one of my favourite arcade games from the 80's-90's. I love everything about this game: the overall design; the characters and animations; the way the enemies explode when you hit them with this ginormous freaking blade you carry around; the way Hiryu jumps, slides and does acrobatics like he's Mario from Mario 64; the different locations from futuristic cities to jungles and enormous flying vessels; the different languages spoken and overall mysterious/uneasing tone of the game; the cut-scenes; the fast-paced action and combat; the feeling of freedom and open-endedness of the level design; the awesome and varied boss and midboss battles generously spread around throughout the whole game; the fact that this game is a bit like a psychological horror movie in some ways and actually gave me nightmares but, paradoxically, of the beautiful kind; that feeling of inspiring awe and terror; the weirdness and exotic nature of it all; and finally the music... My God that soundtrack, also the sound effects and just overall sound design... is just one of the best I've heard in any video game from that era (the 80's and 90's). One of the first games I not only finished but had to go through again just because it was so awesome. Also one of the first games I can remember I had to listen to the whole soundtrack (neat feature Sega games had that Nintendo did not and I'm totally a Nintendo fanboy) because it left such an impression on my young self back then (there was also a certain Streets of Rage 2 for that matter not long after...). Anyway, thanks for the upload!

Everytime I listen to the Strider ost, "that's my favorite tune!" then the next one plays "No, that's my favorite tune!" then the next one plays "Oh yeah, that's the one, now I remember!" next one plays "Ok this is the one!" ...........etc

Those versions are not even worth playing because the beautiful music is huge part of the game's overall atmosphere. The version I got with Strider 2 has the proper music. The version I have on Capcom Classics has the messed up music.

My favorite has always been 19:15 - 21:17. Strider did something Ive not heard any other game do, and that was take care to be sure its scene music transitioned into the next song smoothly. I remember reading something about the intention of it, and that it is not a mistake the songs seems to blend into each other so well.
Was the arcade faster, is this faster than Genesis, or is it just my imagination? The songs seems faster than I remember.

The tracks on the Genesis are faster in some areas (like the Third Moon), slow in some areas (Battleship Balrog), and most songs had their pitch changed for some reason.

This and many other arcade games sounded great in the cabinets, which tamed the bright highs and added bass resonance. Unfortunately emulated versions never compensate for this and sound harsh.
The genny sound chip is quite similar but has the darker tone coming out of the system.
