Humorous faux-reprise in the first movement where he has fun with those who think they're in on the structural subtlety AND there's the bonus of a genuinely contrasting subsidiary thematic group. The wind writing in the inner two movements proves Haydn could write for winds as well as anyone despite his claim that he finally learned to write effectively for them only at the end of his life. The tarantella finale is really satisfying. Interesting to compare this wiry, punchy symphony with no 48, a slightly larger-scale work in the same key written around the same time, and no 38, a piece that is less effective imo.
Der J.Haydn, vor 65 Jahren gespielt im Schulorchester hat er mich schon fasziniert und begleitet mich mein Leben lang. Einfach göttliche Musik.
WHAT A PRESTO FINALE....BRAVO PAPA HAYDN
The symphony was composed by Joseph Haydn, not his father (who was a wheelwright).
I'm not familiar with this symphony but can nevertheless recognize a great performance from the sheer brilliance of it's execution! Brilliant!
