I was flying that first P47 that tried to jump you. It was a great fight and i clearly have alot to learn when it comes to BFM. I shouldnt have followed you in the climb but i smelled blood in the water and got a little over zealous haha. i look forward to meeting you in the skies again.

I have talked with several WWII P-47 fighter pilots, they looked at me like I was nutz when I asked if they ever slowed down during a bounce to ensure a kill. it was very simple, keep you speed up, aim true and dont hang around to admire your kill.
I was lucky enough to spend some time with an A.C. ace when I was a kid. Don't remember what he said he flew, or his full name, but I remember him saying that speed is life over and over again. And move weird, make it hard to predict. Watch what other people do, then do anything but that and counter them a few steps ahead. Have 4 plans for every action. Unfortunately, he was on his way out when I was still very young, I would love to have learned from him as an adult.
Man this was a tense episode, enjoyed it. Amazing interactive world you have created, the spontaneity of it is mind blowing to me. If I remember right the velocity on the 30mm cannons is rather low, so they should suffer from more bullet drop as the range increases. Not that you haven't figured that out by now, but its all I got. Get close and blast away. Cheers.
@@jakeb6703 probably had to do with the zero of the guns maybe. If they're zeroed at 500 meters, they'll be in the center of that reticle at 500m. But closer and you have to adjust for that type of stuff. But dont take my word for it, Im certainly no expert
Or it just has more HE-filler than the A-10's 30mm. The German 30mm Minengeschoss, depending on the Ausf. used, had between 72-85 grams of HE filler, while the GAU-8's 30mm HE shell only has 58g of filler. I believe that this difference may have to do with the intended use (bomber killing vs multi-purpose) of the specific shells and possibly also the gun they are shot out off (less rate of fire might mean a more fragile shell could be used?).
based on the low velocity of the Mk.108 the round loft really high compared to the machine guns to get to your targeting distance, so when youre inside the targeting distance aiming lower then you expect will usually help get hits with the 30mm.

Not sure how DCS models the flight characteristics of various aircraft. Per Robert Johnson, 2nd highest scoring P47 American ace in ETO, He could roll fast enough that German pilots would think he had turned inside them. Also the 'paddle bladed' propeller enabled him to climb with any other European aircraft such as the Spitfire Mk9.
I really enjoy your jet fighter content. I've learned so much about modern tactics by just viewing those videos. However, I have to say the WWII content is more my speed. I'm glad to see more of it.

@@twg2118 I guess. Nothing like dying repeatedly to improve your skills. Still, a good pilot needs to maintain his basic skills and flying against schmoes doesn't do that (necessarily). I was once an off-road driving instructor. I learned that drivers in all the built up 4x4s, where the technology was doing all the work, got very rusty with the basic skills. Assuming they had them in the first place... some guys just wrote a check for bragging rights rather than earn them with skill. Anyway, it was both humbling and instructive to wheel with stock or near stock equipment at least occasionally. A good driver can put on an impressive show with stock equipment versus a mediocre driver the better gear. That's a scenario where bragging rights are earned.
I practice and learn and put in failure after failure. To beat the best in their prime is something to be proud of. winning because of technicalities is pansy stuff.
Reminds me of playing Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator when I was a kid. I want to get this, but feel you would need VR otherwise you are not going to have the SA you need to not get shot down.
Headtracking is even more advantageous than VR, due to better FOV, better resolution etc.. I fly exclusively in VR and consider the headtracking users cheating :D
Yeah, that and you love the109 K. I love the smell of 30MM cannon shells and the satisfying kaboom too. I must admit the eight 50 calibers of the P 47s are good too.
In Warthunder Sim Battles I never use the 30mm cannon...almost always the 20mm. The 30mm is better for shooting up bombers when coming from behind, but i personally don't recommend doing that.
I find the wind screen and canopy bracing agravating in the 109. But love your videos.. Espec the 'Two morons'. But nothing is funnier than your F14 'RIO'....Ejecting at the sight of an enemy on your six, or saying "I can get out and WALK faster than this !".
Still encouraging the Warbirds videos! 👍 I don’t fly Axis planes, but your 30mm misses might be because of the slow rate of fire and heavy rounds dancing around the evasive target. It could explain why you were more effective with the MGs.
I wonder if a lot of people have trouble forgetting to check 6 because they don't have a track IR which basically makes it muscle memory instead of a button to click

German mk108 30mm has short barrel and small shell velocity. It's trajectory is very curved with a bit of spread circle when it leaves barrel. That's why you have problem with hitting. Mg151/20mm shells are much faster with flat trajectory so it is more precise and accurate,with low spread. Like in old Il2:1946;-)
A year late but the canon rounds on the P-51 missed because the canon has a slight upwards cant so all the rounds went flying over the P-51 at such a close distance
Can you do a video on how to manage Engine RPM and Manifold in combat situations? In terms of prop aircraft I come from the direction of civilian aircraft where you need to set certain parameters for prop and manifold for flying. In DCS WWII videos it always seems there is no fiddling with the engine at all...
For the 109s and 190s, it's all done by the engine computer. You get control of throttle, cowl radiator flaps if you want, and manual prop pitch if you want by disabling the governor.
There’s a ton of management in the P-47, and some in the P-51 and Spitfire. The Germans had most of their engine management automated, so you really only have to worry about the throttle unless something gets damaged.
I don't know what was going on with those cannons, lol. Didn't realize I was watching WT, where 50 cal best round in the game. More power then 30mm HVAP.
As someone who flys small planes, flying right below cloud cover i usually pretty turbulent. Does DCS simulate thar? In real life hanging under clouds would not be much fun.
Beat way to deal with american aircraft coming from a superior energy state is to avoid their nose whichever way you can until they are going approximately the same speed as u than start a spiral climb. German aircraft have amazing climb rate but climbing straight isn’t enough to avoid their nose. To counter spitfires u can simply dive, spitfire wings break more easily than 109s, if the spitfire is still in the fight after u dive just use the vertical and repeat because 109s have better energy retention.
just incase anyone doesnt know what flak is or where it comes from. i had to look it up myself. apparently its a german 88mm cannon anti air gun. it shot giant rounds that explode. pretty neat
I told you if you made a pure allied vs aixes server, the germans would bee outnumbered, normally around 6.5 to 1 You can leave it like that or put all planes on both sides but with very distinguishable cammos, like the super blue one for blue bf109s , dark cammos for aixes mustangs and shiny charmed cammos for the allied ones, that will help with the numbers
Is the main gun on the 109 30mm or 20mm? Yeah it seems as if the damage model is backwards...a single 20mm hit (especially with high explosive ammo) should be absolutely devastating on a fighter

How do you catch these guys? P-47N is fastest prop fighter of WW2 = 470 mph. Me-109K = 440 mph. (fastest Me-109) P-47 out dives the 109. Robert Johnson, "They never learn" as they dive to get away but don't make it.
I have a question???? How long does it take you to figure out handling, RPM, oil pressure and such when you switch from one plane to the other. I mean do you take time, how much time do you take to figure out new planes you haven't flown before. Yes I do realize it is different for war birds vs more modern jets...
It's different for everything Different engines mounted in different aircraft require different treatment As for how long it takes to learn these things it really just depends on how well you learn it

When in close like that, consider the bottom of the revi site where the vertical line meets the circle as you crosshair for the MK108

i havent played any PVP in props so im not sure it the gun convergence is also targeted vertically, so take this with a grain of salt

Well to be fair, most Luftwaffe pilots in 1944 were not very skillfull.

just use the manifold inverter while enabling prop mixture to decrease and you're good to go!

How do you catch these guys? P-47N is fastest prop fighter of WW2 = 470 mph. Me-109K = 440 mph. (fastest Me-109) P-47 out dives the 109. Robert Johnson, "They never learn" as they dive to get away but don't make it.
Tracers. Except maybe on purely a strafing mission they seem so serve no purpose except to give away your position.
Are their horizontal and vertical convergence settings for the guns? The cannon and machine guns might only hit the cross at a particular distance.

I have a question???? How long does it take you to figure out handling, RPM, oil pressure and such when you switch from one plane to the other. I mean do you take time, how much time do you take to figure out new planes you haven't flown before. Yes I do realize it is different for war birds vs more modern jets...

Different engines mounted in different aircraft require different treatment
As for how long it takes to learn these things it really just depends on how well you learn it

The German 13mm rounds wasn't weak.
Did they model the 30mm cannon trajectory correctly? Not as flat or fast as the machine guns. If the guns are on target the 30mm will fall below.
