Yeah I doubt it works. Some plants just need more time. My 5 varietal graft pear won't wake up. I pulled it out of the soil and see that its root had been very aggressively cut back. 3 or so half inch roots chopped off. So I have cut the stems way back so there is less trunk to wake up. I had planted it in its wood chips and paper wrap so did not notice before this problem.
